- Did you know you can laser engrave 3D prints? This is the new DIY KIT MK2 from AlgoLaser, and here’s a 3D-printed wallet by Maker Verse Designs. The fine detail is unlike anything I’ve seen with traditional FDM printing, and I can’t wait to keep experimenting with laser engraving and 3D printing together.

Make sure to be careful using open air engravers! Especially with plastic the reflections can be pretty bad sometimes. If you do get one please wear proper eye protection for the laser's wavelength. $40 glasses can be bought but new eyes cannot.
"$40 glasses can be bought but new eyes cannot" goes hard🗣️🔥🔥
The results? excellent
The process? Unshielded laser and unvented fumes make a room damaging to at least 2 of you most important bodily subsystems
Experiencing engraving on black pla or abs with fiber engraving laser machine is unforgettable 😊it gives you the best details
Do a resin print next!
I did know. I've been doing it with a "cold" uv marking laser for years. In fact, the lab i work at has been making micro machines with it for years, and we can bond metal to plastic with the right settings. Usually thin metal foils
Interesting! Is the metal to plastic fusion for pcbs?
Does laser engraving make the printed area stronger?
This is a great question that I do not know the answer to... 🤔 It could make it weaker from losing structural integrity, since it technically melts the plastic away. However, it could also make it stronger because it bonds the plastic together even more so than it already was. Sounds like something worth testing 😁
Can you coat it in clear to smooth out the grooves, then engrave it and add a color layer as embossing?
