I have enjoyed it. Thanks man. I've been eyeing an M2. And this M2C just eliminates the issues I had with the regular M2. And like you said when Akrapovic does their thing it'll be perfect.
Let's talk colors. Which are you leaning towards??
      Keep up the good work.

I hope you can drive a manual soon and share your thoughts on it soon. How do you compare the driving experience vs a 1M? ?been looking to buy a 1M but I may really consider this better! Cheers

Porsche confirm they will keep making 3 pedals cars for ever
BMW keeps the E30 M3's spirit alive with the M2
The next generation of MX5 is said to be even lighter
    Lotus keeps doing Lotus things
Driver's cars are here to stay we have to be grateful of that

Cédric Coulombe yeah bmw just basically ended the manual in the new g20 series and I’ve read some articles that quote the m2 won’t have a manual for long

The BMW DCT is so good and fast it’s hard to argue with why it’s in their high performance car. That said it looks like the DCT is becoming rare as the ZF automatic is becoming the goto many high hp cruisers.

Of all the M2 Competition "reviews" on TH-cam, I find this one the most complete, objective and best done. The M2 Competition may have a poorer sound than its predecessor, but if you're in the market for a new one in the Eu, there's no choice and there's no point in lamenting it. And this review doesn't, and I really appreciate that. I'm taking delivery of one in exactly that color and those wheels in two weeks.

I had an original M2 and traded it in for a different car completely (a dream car of mine), but I am really liking this M2C. I wish this is what was out when I was looking in July 2017. I would definitely still have it. Now i want an M2C, but don't (and will not) get rid of my current car and really can't afford it either. I can handle only so much vehicle depreciations. Good review and who know, maybe in a few years, I can find one on the used car market, because we all know how much M cars depreciate. Hate to say that as I love them, but they do, so good for people looking in the future.

You'll love it... I haven't driven the OG M2, but based on all what I've read this M2C is much more of a linear buildup and it definitely likes to be revved. The power builds really smoothly and everything between 3.5k and 6.5k is golden. Twitchy in 2nd (dct) when you push it, but so well behaved when you need it (it's my daily dad car).
As you mentioned: only thing this car really needs is an exhaust. I'm closely following your friend Mark's development with Akra, but also Lightweight's stainless steel (coming in December). After 3k kms I can confirm it's just too quiet.

Lovely video mate! This just once gain shows why I think you belong to one of the best automotive youtubers! The beginning was just sweet - not too in your face nor too boring, just right! And what a great car too! Was good to hear your thoughts on the M2C, and i think i'd agree with everything that you said.
Now the biggest question is - will you be getting yours as a manual or a auto? 🤔

  • @TheMystro1971

The M2 Competition is THE “M car” as BMW finally found its soul again with building a true track superstar. Finally a M car with a balanced chassis, proper size, lots of power, brakes and handling. The low end torque numbers in a car that small makes it a monster. The interior of the M2C looks gorgeous with just the right amount of high tech. The new seats look amazing. 😎The horse power wars have ruined the M5 as it’s way too big and heavy now The new 3 series is the size of the 5 series a few years back and won’t have the scalpel like handling the M2C has. The new M8 is still just a high HP GT car so we are left with the M2C being BMW’s true track animal sports car.

Ohhh, such a nice car - love that red. I would never be able to go for that color myself but it is a beauty (I prefer grey). I would love to get to try one of these to see how valuable the throttle/etc adjustments are. I find in my wife's 2018 'normal' M2 that in sport mode the throttle response is still slow - I hate to use the word slow but how about I have to really commit the pedal before things really get moving. But when they do, oh my it is an absolute rocket. The comparison for me here is my 2007 Z4 3.0 si. In sports mode that one's throttle is glued to your foot. No, there is not a turbo charger and no it has nowhere near the horsepower but in sports mode that throttle is a linear expression to the power and feels very very direct. I can't get the wife's M2 to feel the same.
Regardless, it is a beauty and you know it has to be great car when the reviewer, pre even ending the review is calling up trying to get an order in place for one. I hope it works out for you! Thanks for the video.

Nice video. I did a back-to-back recently of an M2 and an M2C and preferred the original. Still, fantastic car and I certainly wouldn't be disappointed owning one.

interesting. I have an m2 face lift. Why do you think the old one is better?

    • @stephenmoss7619
      @stephenmoss7619 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

So I can speak to the facelift only, but I really enjoyed the 'rawness' of the older m2. In the OG M2 the sound is more in your face (so much better). The transmission in the OG shifted just as rapid but more harsh (I drove DCT's in both). The engine felt less linear in terms of power delivery so you had to wring it out, which I legitimately enjoy since it felt more like a sports car than a luxury vehicle. Both of these cars have more than ample power to get in trouble with.
In the M2C you get a better range if you want a quite ride and still be an idiot. The seats are prettier to look at (I actually thought they were quite uncomfortable). The sound from the motor is just different and obviously the exhaust is night and day. The DCT shifted more smoothly, which can certainly be seen as a good thing. The m2c felt more refined and is even going to be a better track car when you are really pushing it, but I am not really looking for that quality in a fun weekend car that will see some track duty for giggles.
Overall, is the m2c a more capable car? Yes. Does it actually make it more fun to drive and own? No, not so much.

@@stephenmoss7619 This. Have an LCI with springs and intake...transformed the car...does this S55 plus extra weight equal a better ROAD car?

    • @peterhammer6915
      @peterhammer6915 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Stehpen Moss+ really really hard to believe you or you value totally different things than I do in a sporscar. I had an M2 LCI for 10 days in Germany and it was a very nice car but it was not so special because of the dull engine which had great torque but it did not feel a sportscar at all because after 5500 rpm nothing happened anymore. Great torque and ok sound but a sportscar engine, no.
I drove yesterday an M3 CS for only 5 minutes but I can tell you, it was the best car I ever have driven, just a crazy lunatic car with incredible feeling and accuracy. Much better imo than the F90 M5 I drove 2 weeks ago, which probably is faster though on a straight line. If the M2 Competition is a "baby" M3 CS as Joe said, it must be on another planet compared to the original. But lets wait and see when I get to drive one.
If I would have 160k eur extra, I would have bought the CS yesterday in a heartbeat. Unfortunately the cars in Finland cost like crazy. The M2 Competition starts from 110k eur.

@Peter Hammer: I guess we value something different in a sports car, which I like to think is likely pretty common :) To me a sports car is something that puts a smile on my face when I'm driving backroads that has enough power to get me in trouble that is a pleasure to rev out. It needs to be trackable to the extent that it will see a track a couple times a month during the spring, summer, and fall.
I enjoyed the characteristics of the N55 (I liked the S55 as well). I found it made more than enough power for the road and seemed to be happy to rev out (I'd agree that it does start tailing off around 6500). I also liked that it had a bit of a peaky nature that the s55 corrected with 2 turbos vs. one. The S55 is 100% the better motor in the grand scheme of things, but unless someone is looking to mod it extensively the N55 seemed up to the task. It doesn't necessarily need to be the fastest, best handling, best braking car out there to make something 'better' for what I'm looking for.
The sound a car makes is of course going to be important, but I do think the m2c doesn't sound as bad as people are making it out to be it just isn't as good as the previous iteration by a long shot. The rear muffler thing is pretty damn ugly, but the rest of the car looks great and people will make exhausts for the m2c so the problem is only temporary. I appreciate that the OG M2 feels a bit rough around the edges and the M2C has polished a lot of that out. Just to be clear, the m2c didn't feel sterile either the m2 just exuded the characteristics I appreciate more. I'm in Canada (so what is standard vs. not between our countries is likely different) so the price between the m2c and current year m2 is pretty minimal so cost to 'upgrade' really isn't much and I don't own either currently so do get the benefit of not having to deal with the depreciation with trading an existing M2 to M2C. I am actively in the market for a car and both of these do slot nicely in my price range as well as overall size (the wife is of course going to have her opinion since we only drive 1 car, which might be super different than mine and who knows she may hate both).
I've not driven an M3 CS so can't really judge whether it feels like an M2C or not, but would love to drive it. Due to living in downtown Toronto owning an m3 would be a pain in the ass just dimensions of the car. I have had the opportunity of driving the M2C more than the M2, but only did a back-to-back comparison once and can say the M2C is a great car and would be a great DD and then fun car for the weekend. I think if I had to sit in traffic daily on a crappy commute I'd still look at something with an adaptive suspension with our roads compared to both the m2 and m2c. The brakes on the M2C are nuts and the power band of the S55 is really easy to use and appreciate. The one drive in the 2018 M2 was the only time I've driven that, but was last week so quite recent and I'll certainly drive them more as I continue to make my decision on what car to ultimately purchase.
In terms of overall 'best car' to either of these if i'm judging it as a pure sports car? No to both. The benefit of the m2 and m2c is we get cars that can play with true sports cars, but still have a fair bit of practicality for day-to-day. I'd buy a Porsche if I had the opportunity of owning a dedicated sports car, but sadly this car does have do some double duty due to a 1 car garage in a city. I'm also not someone that cares too much about straight line performance otherwise I'd be looking at different cars all together. The M2 and the M2C slot into a pretty niche market and I just prefer the previous version over the newer one.
I just figured I'd toss my opinion out since we know all journalists (Joe I guess sort of is this, but not really) are going to be singing praise to the latest and greatest because that's what keeps viewership up.

Joe, what’s your thoughts for current M2 coupe owners, is it worth upgrading? There’s a lot to like, the engine, seats, mirrors... but also dislike, the sound, those grilles, and the cost to trade in and purchase..!

Hey buddy, really hard to say mate! It's not miles better, bit like when the M140 came out and all M135 owners we're keen to swap, but in reality there was very little difference. As a new buy it's amazing value, as a standard M2 upgrade it might be a bit expensive for the small gains

Great video Joe. Can’t really compare the M3 over this as it’s no longer in production. Another victim of the WLTP fleet emission regulations. M4 is the only comparison in the range. I think you’d be silly to go for an M4 over the M2 Comp Pack though. Keep up the great vids Joe 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼

I am keeping my stage2 m2, not worth upgrading in my opinion. M2 LCI with Akrapovic sounds a lot nicer than any m2 competitions. For the looks, it is always easy to buy new mirrors and seats.
