    My brother has a Colt Delta HBAR in mint condition, and I have a 1990 Colt Sporter Match HBAR with the stupid searblock that I filed down so I could run a full auto bolt carrier. I just put in a Giselle SSA-E Colt large pin trigger, a Cherokee cheek piece, a Bresser "Condor" 1-4x24 scope in an ARMS mount on the carry handle. I will now compete in a local military match at 200 yards using Australian Outback 55 grain "Blitzking"match ammo, and or 69 grain Australian Outback (ADI) match ammo with the Sierra "Matchking" bullets. The shooting match is 5 sighters, 20 rounds slowfire prone, 10 rounds rapid sitting, 10 rounds rapid prone, and 10 rounds offhand using a 30 round mag as a palm rest! This rifle and ammo combo is capable of cleaning the target with all X's at 200 yards out to 600 yards no problem. I am so lucky to have it!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you for your publication, it is very educating ! I purchased my HBAR (preban) over 35 years ago and could not get acceptable accuracy out of it. (3-4 inch groups @ 100 yds.) with the ammo available at that time. So, I purchased an Arms adapter for a Tasco 3-9 rubber armed scope and tried to do better, to no avail. Then I added a Cherokee cheek riser and again had no success with factory ammo. So, all this frustration got me reloading. The books at that time (very pre-You Tube) recommended using Win 748 + a small magnum primers. I tried 55, 62, 64, 69 grain bullets with different powder charges and always had horrible results... I tried a target scope with parallax ajustments to no avil.. So, I put the rifle aside for years and years.... For some freak reason, I tried a new batch of ammo using CCI small benchrest primers with barnes Varmint Grenade 50g. bullets and Win 748. Eurika: sub MOA groups. Same thing with Sierra 69g HPBT ! This was a humbling revelation.

    Grew up shooting an HBAR Sporter. Spoiled me for anything else. 94 ban laws hit NY and we had to scramble to get one so it could be grandfathered in. Found one at the old Edelmans out on Long Island.

    The Colt AR-15A2 was the first AR I ever shot. It was my dad's and it had a A2 20" upper and a A1 16" lightweight upper. They were always fun to shoot. The 2nd was a Sendra XM-15E2 A2 20" HBAR and it was super cool because it had the "Evil" features that Colt neutered off of their rifles.

    During the AWB I got my hands on a pile of orlite Israeli mags and polymer mags were unheard of other than the Canadian mags. Anyways the orlite mags wouldn't seat in awb colt guns and sear block big pin colts but fine in preban colts

But the thing I loved most was the grey finish on the barrel and upper and lower. I which they would bring that finish back.

    Cool.! I'd forgotten all about that Delta model. When that series came out I wanted a Delta, however the thrifty side of me said...That's an insane amount of money for a Tasco scope". So I got regular HBAR and put a Leupold on it. Totally forget what the price difference but bad enough to get a thumbs down. Still got the old HBAR and it'll shoot 1.25" at 200 yards. Still have a target to prove. Actually I was amazed given it was a production gun with the usual horrid trigger and ...gasp!....a chrome lined barrel. LOL
    One thing I noticed on my Colt HBAR barrels is the chambers are a little tighter than my M16A1 or other commercial brands like DPMS and Olympic.

    Awesome channel....been doing some SERIOUS digging and hope you read this but if not maybe someone else can. Long story short.....should a free float rail NOT come in direct contact with the upper receiver due to receiver flex from firing? Idk if I'm down a rabbit hole with no end but is a slight gap actually PREFERED? I think colt actually may have tested this and a man with your knowledge all of us trust. You are the man btw.

    Au contraire!! The Tasco Rubber Armored 3X9X40 is a very decent scope. The rubber was "waterproofing". Keep in mind this rifle is not a sniper rifle. It's a combat weapon to be carried in the field and designed to be rugged. You can shoot 1" groups at 200 yards all day long with this setup. How much "better" would you want it to be? Jungle warfare is mostly up close and personal, not ridge to ridge at 1000 meters. I would take this weapon over anything available at the time of the Vietnam War. The next closest rifle was the M-14 but most of the guys preferred the Colt. Comparing apples to apples, the enemy had a rifle barely capable of 6" groups at 100 yards. If we would have had LEADERSHIP and a DESIRE TO WIN, that war would have been over in 15 minutes.

    • @georgewhitworth9742

    Too bad he doesn't have the original pistol grip. My Delta HBAR has a different pistol grip. Did he get the case as well? Yes these are a rather dreamy AR. I also have a pre ban Colt HBAR A2 which is my shooter
    Still love Colt but also realize they are no longer top of the line with companies like DD and many others build better quality AR's in my opinion.

    • @donrichter3523
      @donrichter3523 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the gun weighs 8 lbs with an HBAR. I don’t particularly like them, but I suppose as a DMR gun, it’s acceptable.

      @@donrichter3523 I bought mine in 1993, right before the ban. I contacted Colt about the issue I mentioned above. They responded and told me that there are Military units, and LEO that use the HBAR. They couldn't mention what military branch; I guess because they are very accurate, and can withstand much heat opposed to the "Government Profile." I surmise the Marines and other branches use them for Sniper Activities. I have mine set up with a Aimpoint for "long distance communication."
