I have just read an article written by Alan Wallace on Buddhism and monotheism. He argues that there is something analogous to "God" in Buddhism: an unconditioned ground of being.
True except that buddhists place the buck squarely with oneself whereas Christians place the buck with an omnipotent 'being'. Whether we choose to 'drive' our own life or leave it to a deity is irrelevant, we all know that inner peace and love feels good and hate, anger, jealousy, longing etc makes us feel and act badly. There is a theory that Jesus was a buddhist . I like to think that buddhists are working hard plowing the field whilst Christians are at the alter. Buddhists work on samsara, Christians work on heaven.
@@AA4PJM No, not quite. The most fundamental issue of Eden is the individuals exercise of Will. And with that God quite bluntly made it plain "the buck" was squarely on THEM. What most Christians don't realize is their own cosmology and that prior to anything like a Christian existed, the garden of Eden was understood as *a story*, not a literal origination event. It was an analogy of the origination of human suffering or "the fall". Which was driven by Pride. "Pride goeth BEFORE the fall." ;)
Robina misrepresents Christian ethics (to say the least). Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, etc., all teach that all virtues are the basis for human flourishing; and the absence of such virtues, i.e., vices, are the basis for human suffering. The whole Catholic Church believes in natural law theory. It starts from first principles that are discovered by reason.
If that were true they wouldn't have spent two million dollars in NY lobbying to have laws passed to PREVENT their many sexually assault victims from having even legal redress for the horrifically sadistic crimes committed against the child victims of the Church's Pedophile Priest club. The Church would do well to meditate on Hell every minute because according to their beliefs, that's precisely where they're going darling and getting used to the environment by creating and projecting it here ;)
So appreciate Robina’s no-nonsense bluntness and how she challenges us to think simply and clearly, Gracias.
Thank you.
she is so very clear and logical in her explanation of the buddha's wisdom. I love her down to earth, non sweet, sincere way of explaining. thank you
