Having also seen the earlier revival with Ms. LuPone, there was MUCH more to Sutton's version than just the vocal presentation. I don't care how you present it-Rachel DOESN'T dance and neither does Ms. LuPone. Sutton's presentation was the TOTAL package and hers was the performance I would pay to see again, not the other two.
every day I wake up, and before I look in the mirror I say to myself "please turn into sutton foster". needless to say it hasn't worked, and it's just sad.
And you actually saw Ms. Foster and the original revival cast in NYC back in 2011-12 to be able to honestly compare the two complete performances ? And you make your judgement after seeing BOTH complete performances ? Just curious- that'a how I made my decision that I preferred Ms. Foster.
I really wasn't going to respond but 2 items bother me. 1) I said"I prefer Ms. Foster....." NOT better; and 2) I was working as a dancer in the NYC Theater when the ORIGINAL "Chicago" was on the boards. No one has mistaken me for a child for a VERY long time. End of conversation.
I saw them both, and lets be fair anyone who pioneers a role on stage can be topped by the next performer in line. Sutton is a legend and we all know that, but frankly, Rachel York fully embodies Reno Sweeney. Her deep register and coarse voice adds soo much character, it really defines Reno's bad ass persona. Sutton has great riffs but can sound really nasally at times, Rachel projects more power on her riffs and uses more of her diaphragm minus the higher pitch which is similar to Lupones.
My. my, so aggressive!. One would say you're mad at me!. You see, I usually skip gross comments so I can't really be sure of your degree. Sorry for that. As for the very amusing (if silly) request that I should delete my account to do "you" a favor using "all" meaning you... my, my, what an ego!.
What are you talking about. Rachel danced the whole revival choreo including kicks. Did you even see Rachel York perform? I know at one point you Sutton fans are gonna come down to the whole dancing segment and yes Sutton can lift her leg up high and reach heaven's peak but that doesn't mean you're a God on this. To say that Rachel doesn't dance is utterly stupid when clearly she did. I wanted to see Reno Sweeney of Anything Goes, not the dancers of the Chorus line.
Sutton Foster is fantastic, but Rachel York was honestly much better. I saw her in Anything Goes last night and she got a round of applause that lasted a good five minutes after this number, and she had the sweetest smile on her face. Fantastic show.
okay-I see. I thought I was dealing with a grownup. I prefer Ms. Foster and next, Ms. LuPone, in this role. What Ms. York does , is dancing, but not REALLY good dancing. If she was functioning at the level both Ms. Foster & Ms. LuPone are, Roundabout Theater would have come to her to lead their production on Broadway. She was OK for the tour. No more conversing- you're a troll.
I want to be exactly like sutton foster
You and me both
Wish I saw the 2011 revival of this... Love Sutton Foster!
One of my favorite Broadway shows and that was absolutely the best of many great numbers.
Stop arguing, please, in this House of Worship. Sutton Foster is awesome--Amen!
Oh my gosh! So good! Thanks for uploading
WOW ! Always thought this number was even more impressive than the 1st act closer.
"Anything Goes".
OMGOSH Thanks for posting
My search for what I have to do in this number continues.
