the most important things are the sode , ko uchi and kata guruma, how you can have a complete judo gokyo without Mifune's go to throw and a technique fundamental to Kano's story is beyond me.
I can relate to this Uke. He does his role very well. Being able to help Tori with their intensions is a very specific skill, it does not require being tough. It requires good understanding where the technique is going and how to minimize discomfort while not resisting the action itself. I believe I am a good uke, backed by the fact that many people of varying levels of skill prefer to have me as an uke - I will make it easy for them to kuzushi, tsukuri and kake. Good uke => tori does not use strength => technique looks clean => uke is not broken down.
@@diynevala The unfortunate calculus is that the better uke you are, the more likely you are to be asked to be the uke in almost any setting. @@kusotare9559 Well I am 46 and the fact that people start losing muscle after 40 will do that to anyone. Before anyone corrects me, we don't LOSE muscle after 40, the muscle growth just slows down and most of us will experience net loss. In 2025 they announce the rule change, so many people say that the ijf will not abilitate the leg grabs until 2026, but i hope the leg grabs will come in january of next year
Yeah. There was also no mention of only being allowed to counter with 1 hand. So if someone comes in with an Uchi mata, you can just double leg them on the return?
I saw this pop up one morning in my feed and my reaction was "I don't understand anything in text but the red and white colors message enough and this feels like fantasy". I was actually watching the montage of lost techniques by Grappler Kingdom and drooling over kata gurumas, te gurumas and sodes with leg grab. Especially the front flip sodes or the cartwheel kata guruma looks so great. The only thing I don't like about this is the hands free attacks. I already didn't like scoring attacks where you let go of the grips before ippon. I personally think you should execute techniques from grips. I'm a believer that it does make slightly safer judo without suffering negative effects.
If the IJF adopts this rule set I wonder how well the US will do in judo. The US has such a strong wrestling culture, I hope Team USA can incorporate wrestling leg takedowns to get an edge on the international scene.
Wrestling in a gi is different we already had ruleset with leg take downs m the us simply us nit good in judo. They need to invest more on judo training program in schools
When leg grabbing was still allowed USA was not exactly a shiny star in Judo, so pretty sure that would not change the game for them. If you want to be good at Judo do good Judo
That's not how its going to work. You cannot just tack folkstyle leg attacks onto Judo and expect good things. A lot of leg grabs don't score because they don't satisfy the ippon conditions. If you hate the modern shido game, you will hate what leg grab judo can look like. Jacket wrestling has different needs. The O-uchi to ankle pick is something that will actually get results.
@@Hatsukoi839 You are aware that its often Judoka who often transition to Sambo because they couldn't quite succeed in elite Judo? And that they have zero issue dominating Sambo? Leg grabs are not enough to close that gap of competition.
If I recall correctly, this was about the same as ijf 2012 to 2016? Leg grab only as a second move in a combo or as a counter. I like this just fine. Had a great uchi mata to o uchi with an outer leg grab. Hope ijf follow suit here but doubt it as it’s too similar to their past rules
No, this rules have no similarities to the 2010-2013 rules, the second move rule is only for double leg grab, but if you have a grip in the upper body you can grab one leg completely free😊
Oh well, Ijf didn’t get the concept! The new rules are out and I probably need a professional translator to understand what is going on! Ill just switch to bjj, and it’s a shame since i have a 2nd Dan in judo..
LOL bro those of us who came up doing these things aren't *that* old; I'm only in my early 40s. It hurt a little to hear you say "pull out these techniques after all this time."
Man we tried some things at my dojo the other week and it just wasn't smooth. I barely remember these things at all lol. PS you're an old man at 40 dude hahaha!
Yes, this is a big step in the right direction IMO. on a sidenote. i think there needs to be more emphesis on newasa in judo. i see too many competitions of people scoring points on throws where they end loose control of the guy on bottom, and sometimes even winds up underneath the guy they threw. A good throw isnt a good throw if it ends with you loosing position. i see guys all the time trip over the guy they threw and end up on their backs.
These senseis have trained these techniques hard for all these years - bitter tears running down their cheeks for the unfair rules change. Oh, how many rivers of salty tears have run since they forbid going under the belt, raising the salinity of the oceans of this earth. The sacred ground under their dojos eroded by the watering eyes. The yearning of touching legs eating their hearts hollow, the vile dictators refusing attacks from the low. Oh my word. The rules were fine, this change is ok. Stop crying about rules.
just allow all leg grab techniques already, why waste time with complicated rules like that ? Way to make the sport harder to understand for non-specialist spectators
If I would be IJF, I would ignore these innovations by Japan Federation. Otherwise each Federation will start to make their own rules. If Japanese wish to jeopardize their performance at International level, it is up to them. Leg grads will jeopardize to make athletes to hunch over and being afraid of amplitude throws. There are many other real issues to be addressed, for example diving assessment
The upright stance is overrated. It shouldn't come at the cost of destroying some of judo's core techniques. Judo should be a *martial art,* not a beauty contest.

no more watered down IJF shido judo 😒 bring back the pure explosive raw form of judo!

So, if you attack a "single" leg from a gripping position and it lifts off the ground, it looks like you can attack the 2nd leg.
Yeah. There was also no mention of only being allowed to counter with 1 hand. So if someone comes in with an Uchi mata, you can just double leg them on the return?
@JudoHighlights2015 I would say Yes. As the attacker leg is up attempting a throw (Uchi mata). Which makes them fair game for a double 🤔?
@@JudoHighlights2015 Didn't you say that the counter has to be also with one hand above belt?

so if i go for a ko uchi or an o uchi with no hands and blast a double im good?
apparently, but that seems so hard to do.
Any new rules about passivity or the half ass throwing attempts, just to try to escape?
I think the IJF will mostly handle that. In Japan, those things aren't that big of an issue.
I think we’re going to see a lot of shidos in April hahaha
At first sight it seems there are not grey areas of interpretation of the rules. That's likeable
Problem with IJF is that they just rule to satisfy international Olympic committee.
