    Wow, cotton balls ftw! It's good to have options for planting mediums. I have a basil growing too tall for my little setup. I've pinched the top in hopes of forcing some branching. We'll see... I love the sprouting technique. This saves a wasted container - I have a type of lettuce that has had extremely poor germination rates that is taking up a "grown up" container. (I grabbed that seed packet by accident.) I actually got one sprout those time so that's a first with that variety. It'll be interesting to see if it was worth all of the trouble. 😂 I'll definitely avoid that one in the future!

    Thanks for the great video, Tikki! Do you find that the algae cotton balls negatively impact your Folgers kratky set-up? Or does the algae die off from lack of light exposure?

    • @TikkiOOO
      @TikkiOOO  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The algae didn't seem to matter, its just not so nice looking. I covered up the cotton balls with the hydroponic pebbles, so the algae is probably dead. The water is clean and the roots are all nice and white. I should have shown the roots on the video..my bad....thanks for the question!

    • @btpuppy2

      @@TikkiOOO I was thinking full grown plants. Watercress is done hydroponically I think and it’s so great to be able to have some fresh for eating or juicing as it’s very hard to find in stores and if you do, it never fresh since once it’s removed from nutrients it’s very perishable.

    I am over 70 yrs of age and just now getting into Hydroponics. So far have ran into one issues, that is after one mixing up the MASTERBLEND 4-18-38 Complete Combo Kit Fertilize, lets say for 5 gallons. Wait, my container has only up to a 3 gallons in capacity, with three 3-inch & three 2-inch holes in it, a kind of long container & it has an air stone in it, bubbling away, and wrap to keep the sun out. So the question is this, 1) Do I have to throw out the current water in the container and then add back in the solution of Masterblend & water? 2) Do I just add in the some of the Masterblend solution? 3) If of to add part of the Masterblend solution, just how much & how often? Currently sprouting Basil and Lettuce, the sprouting seedlings are 5 days old right now. Hope you can be of some help. Thanks, The Old Person.

    I was surprised to see you using cotton balls in place of rock wool. Do you like the way the cotton balls performs better than the rock wool?

    • @TikkiOOO
      @TikkiOOO  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alexandra, the rockwool costs more, but I like the size and shape better than the smaller cotton ball. The rockwool is easier to move around than the flimsy cotton ball. I get good results with both, so its a toss up. Thanks for the question!

    • @TikkiOOO

      I used to when I first started out, the Ph is usually around 6.0-6.3 after I add the nutrients. I use reverse osmosis filtered water. Now I don't Ph test anymore unless I am having a problem growing something and I don't know why, but my water source is pretty stable. Thanks for the question Andres!
