If Merab shoots for a takedown vs Umar, that would be the worst thing he could do. Umar’s best attribute is scrambling, go watch all of his fights. He literally put Cory in a trunk in a side position. He’s a lifelong student of the grappling master, Abdulmanap. He isn’t losing.
Merab whoops umar. And merab cannot be held down his scrambling is 100x that of umars who couldnt even hold down a weak flimsy tall skinny lanky fighter in sandhagen. If merab fought sandhagen he would ragdoll him. There are levels to this game and aljo choked out cory in less than 1 minute. Umar got all his takedowns stuffed and cory kept getting up went to a competitive decision where umar landed 3-5 more strikes a round than cory and got a takedown at the end of the round to seal the round. It took 12 years for Merab to get where he is and become UFC champion. Literally came from the streets and conquered the division. Why would he give a shortcut to Umar? Because he is Nurmagomedov? Who the F fights for the belt after just one top10 win? Did not even finish the fight or dominate Cory on the ground. Umar has to prove himself otherwise it is a L/L situation and disrespect for Merab. If Merab beats him, casuals like you will instantly trash Umar. That’s literally it. No submission threat. He goes for guillotines he obviously won’t get. He doesn’t have good striking. 0 knockdowns in the ufc. Also let’s not pretend like Merab had good wrestling. He has good cardio. He fails most of his takedowns. He hasn’t fought anyone that can threaten submissions. So we will see.
