- Hey Guys!! Throughout my experience as a Monster High collector I have run into the unfortunate issue of greasy and sticky hair with some of my dolls, so I figured I would make a short tutorial showing you how I have dealt with this issue. I hope this helps because I know first hand what an annoying problem this can be.

Omg I'm SO GLAD I saw this comment before washing. I got a lot of dolls off eBay and one of them is the half shaved head Venus doll because I would've just washed it like regular. Lifesaver up in here.
Not for me. I have Venus. I’ve given her about 6 baths in the past week. It only just now started to fall off

The first doll i got was Frankie in around 2011, and her hair is so gross now. I'll try this way and hope I can save her.
+megastar4470 I bought my Lagoona (Frights, Camera, Action) in Target along with Cleo (Frights, Camera, Action). I played with Lagoona with my friend and then I decided to get more dolls so I forgot about her. But then about 1-2 months later... I noticed her hair was getting sticky. I decided to ignore this problem. About 3-4 months later, her hair was a giant mess. It looked awful it was sticking out to the side, it was so wild. But then when I felt the hair, it was SO DISGUSTING! It was gunky, sticky, and greasy and just awful pretty much. I tried 2 ways, one of my own, and another way on another video. Yet it still was pretty bad with the stick, I got the wildness out. I hope this way can save her or else I may not even include her in my collection. One of the reasons why I think her hair is really wild, is because I have 40+ dolls all fitting into one small suitcase. They get shaken around, causing their hair to be messed up. I will be more careful with them from now on.

edit: Very nice I can honestly tell the difference! Before it was sticky at touch but now it is much softer I really recommend this (I only used dish soap detergent btw)

This is so helpful! I just bought Elissabat from a buy-out store (as in she's been in her box for over a year) and her hair is horribly greasy and sticky, even chunks of glue! I can't wait to try this out, thanks!
I have also had this issue with dolls that have been in their box for an extended period of time. I think you will definitely need to use baby powder to really soak up all that grease. Just work it into the dolls scalp really good with your fingers and then brush the hair gently to evenly distribute the powder. Once it feels dry then wash and air dry. Hope this helps!
I just put conditioner and then leave it on for 1hour and then just wash it off and brush the hair it's better than new when I do that

You should use the doll comb to tease the soap and hair together

My dolls hair is like this for almost every Operetta ( I think that's how u spell it) and I LOVE her bc she's cool and why not, but I never knew how to fix her hair
well, it worked great for my used Frankie, but her hair weren't that much greasy, now I struggle with my Elissabat, there's so much grease that soap and dish detergent can't deal with it :/

Omg thanks so much my Venus doll had gotten in the pool and it totally fried her hair! Now it's shiny and beautiful again! Granted her shaved fuzz is gone but that's okay!

I have a gargoyle monster high doll and her hair is so so so so greasy and I have no idea how it happened because when I first got her she was fine so I can't wait to try this to see if it works
Do you have to use the washing liquid or can you use any other soaps? Because I have the werecat twins (mealody & Pursephone) and their hair is really bad cos I lost them and found them again not that long ago... Btw I love your videos xxx

I did this like 5 times for my getting ghostly draculaura doll and her hair's still sticky and has a massive kink in it from packaging. what am I doing wrong?

My catty noir doll has greedy and ratty hair but she has alot of accessories on and I don't want to take all of them up
I have also run into this problem before :( ...with a few of my dolls I just had to do my best to work around the accessories very carefully, but with others I just made the decision to take out the hair style or hair accessories and wash the hair clean and then do my best to recreate the hairstyle the doll came with

just an idea but would it work if you braided the hair in several different braids then put the braids in buns. would that curl it if you did it while it was still wet then let it dry that way? srry for wording it really strangley but watevs

Unfortunately, this did not work on my original Ashlynn Ella Ever After High doll. Her hair is still greasy if not more greasy than before.

+Kenzi I tried baby powder, and massaged it into the scalp months later, (it kind of helps) and then I washed the hair with either dish soap or heavy divergent (can't remember). Hope this helps :).
+RavenX Gaming yeah I've had no luck with baby powder. I just feel like it makes the hair sticky! but I just tried the dish soap, I realllllly hope it works because this is my 4th time trying to get grease of my 13 wishes twyla.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience. My Ashlynn Ella has kind of improved, but her hair still doesn't feel soft enough. I gave it a trim aswell.
+RavenX Gaming yeah, I got the original Ashlynn off amazon so she's been sitting in her box for a while, I guess that's why this happens? I used conditioner/boil wash on twyla and it totally ruined her hair. I would only advice that method to people who have like dolls with no grease in their hair!

Would the hot water affect the doll's hair? Because i'm scared
Hi! From my own personal experience the hot water is 100% safe and extremely effective with Monster High doll hair. I have seen this method used with Ever After High dolls as well as Barbie dolls but I myself have only tried Monster High dolls. Hot /almost boiling water is best way to restyle a dolls hair. The only things to stay away from are hot tools (curling irons, blowdryers, flat irons) because these will absolutely destroy doll hair. Hope this helps!!
When you are done with washing and towel drying should their hair feel like heavy and kind of sticky
chiko4007 No it should definitely not feel sticky, if you are experiencing this you have to wait until the hair has completely air dried. Once the hair is dry sprinkle baby powder all over the scalp of the hair and really work it in. Comb the hair so that the powder is evenly and throughly distributed. The baby powder will help absorb the excess oil and grease. Your dolls hair should feel a lot less sticky after doing this and what I like to do is wash the hair again with liquid soap, making sure to get all of the soap out, and then let the hair air dry. This should help, it may need repeating though. Hope this helps :)

Prob use a goo gone method instead. Powder will whiten her hair too much. Same goes for any dark haired doll
