🎉 I love it!!! Dr. Olds sneaking the over 400 cube beast block past the GM pencil pushers in the front office!!! Man these 455's are stump pulling torque monsters!!!! Sweet rides guys and thanks for sharing these gems with us and you for filming them for us and adding your twisted commentary!!!
Gotta love both of these classics...nice to see an Olds in there! I thought the G.T.O. would have to be a Ram Air with the standard 4.33 rear to even have a chance against the Olds, but it managed to pull out a victory anyway. 2 awesome machines! Thanks C&Z.
Goodday C & Z, Suprised the GTO got the win, looking at the mph on the Hurst seems like he backed it off towards the end. Before Nickey, Baldwin, Yenko with there BB Chevy Chevelle's there was the original concept by Oldsmobile. Got to love the Old's as I do. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
Damn Olds is boss here! The noise from the twice pipes sounded souped up just toolin' around! Just a little peel out and it laid rubber both cars bookin' it. Dig it, the GTO wasn't all show and no go and a lot faster than I expected with the 55 cube short. What a gas!
Stock GTO's never impressed me even though they were fast, but my '69 SS396 Chevelle use to eat them for breakfast. Now I keep a 2004 C5 Corvette covered up in my garage and it could/would have beat both of these cars.
Holy crap!!! I paused the Monroney sticker. The Bi-Phonic rear radio speaker was almost $134! The whole radio was only $69.51. That must be some speaker!
I just found your channel and subscribed immediately Amazing pieces of history as a Aussie I can actually see small design elements in a lot of your cars that made it to the Australian production line a few years later in both our Ford and Holden muscle cars Execellent work you do
1967 Pontiac GTO vs 1968 Hurst Olds | PURE STOCK DRAG RACE ..... when I saw the length of the video is 5:02 long and read the title, I shrugged and thought, "that's about right". 😎😎
A few years ago, I had a "barn find" '68 Hurst Olds 442 posted sedan that I fully restored. The car was a street legal monster, but traction was always a problem. I drove it for three summers and then sold it at a huge profit.
Very beautiful Muscle cars brother. The GTO is obviously my favorite and heck it even looks a million times better than the newer Rebadged Holden Monaro GTOs, either way its awesome to see my 2 favorite GM brands drag racing 🏁.
That Olds……oh my……I know, the GTO took the win, and is a great car…..but that Olds. Realizing it’s an H/O, I was still stoked my like came it at 442! Thank you as always ~ Chuck
I had a 68 Olds cutlass it had a 350 rocket with a two speed trans ...it was a strong car , it ran when I parked it ...the trouble with the car everything else wore out except the engine and transmission..lol
The ‘68 Hurst Olds would have run faster with the factory 3.42 gears. Those big cube 455s prefer to lean on higher gears that keep them in the sweet spot of the torque curve. 3.91 is too much gear for a low revving big block.
I think 373 is about as high a gear ratio as you want in an Olds. They have a fairly high recline from the factory and will happily run right up to it without any complaints even with a couple hundred thousand miles on them.
you are correct, big cube motors, will run quicker and faster w/o 3.73s 4.11s and such. anything higher , and your just spinning the motor thru its powerband instead of utilizing it.
I knew a guy that bought a 67 GTO Brand New and he said his payments were 101.00$. That was a lot in 1967. Had the tri power set up and he swapped it for a 4 barrel because of gas guzzling . The shop kept the tri power.
I'm surprised the GTO ended up being much faster, the Olds 455 are really torque monsters, maybe the auto trans was the slowing factor? A killer sound this Olds had👍😁
Nice cars and fast, BUT, the Australian Production vehicle, the 1971 Ford Falcon, "little" 351(Cleveland), GTHO Phase 111, "Super Roo", 4 DOOR FAMILY SEDAN, fitted with the optional 3.9:1 ratio differential could do the quarter mile in 13.9 seconds. Oh, and it was not only fast in a straight line, it also won Bathurst, Australia's BIG Production car race at that time (and still is), in 1971. Interesting, huh?
My first 71 cutlass that I bought from a good friend in highschool, I did a lot of work to it and I took it to Atco speedway in Atco new jersey and it ran mid 12's in the 1/4 mile and it was my favorite car that I ever owned ❤️😎👍
Traction is always a problem for the GTO. The Olds has a slight edge out of the chute. Despite the traction disadvantage, the GTO (with its flat torque curve over a wide RPM range) will almost always out-accelerate a stock competitor.
THE HURST OLDS WOULD HAVE DONE BETTER WITH THE 342 GEAR ON TOP END . WHO NEEDS A 391 WITH A OLDS 455 IT HAS MORE THAN ENOUGH TORQUE TO GET YOU OFF THE LINE ......JUST SAYING.
You are slowlllly inching your way back to fart noises/flatulence. Really do miss the pop culture references and silly humor that the videos once had and hope they return one day.
So the Hurst is 3700 Lbs Curb weight (Minus the driver).? So?..that is really good for a 455 car with full frame. 1968 A bodies are around 200 lbs. lighter than the later 1970 on cars.
Only a few seconds into the vid, everyone knows the GTO is a Nona -did muscle-car. The 389 under the hood could beat most 400 (6.6L) engines. Perhaps unbenownced to the GTO driver, many perhaps a few hundred ‘hurst olds had a 454 engine slipped in at the factory. And I misspelled, that the GTO is a BONA-FIDE muscle car! But, know😂what your up against.

Dont forget those awesome air ram scoops under the bumper on that Olds!
You can scoop me up and ram me anyday Huckleberry ❤

Obviously the Olds broke down...
That Olds is drop dead gorgeous!!! Man oh man, cars used to be so freakin' cool! Love the video, thanks!!
Love the 1968 Hurst Olds! The insightful and always on-point commentary from @2:29-2:36 was worth the price of admission alone....
I love the way you narrate.
Goodday C & Z,

Got to love the Old's as I do.

Awesome , Thanks C&Z 😀
Nice matchup. Love me some Poncho but that Olds is a beauty too! As always thanks for the vid.
Thank you for pumping out the videos! Excellent!!
68 H/O has always been a very underrated muscle car.
Stock GTO's never impressed me even though they were fast, but my '69 SS396 Chevelle use to eat them for breakfast. Now I keep a 2004 C5 Corvette covered up in my garage and it could/would have beat both of these cars.
I was going for the GTO, a 4 speed and a great bargain for what you got.
Holy crap!!! I paused the Monroney sticker. The Bi-Phonic rear radio speaker was almost $134! The whole radio was only $69.51. That must be some speaker!

The trap speed was way down on the Olds. Did something break?
Yeah, has an ET and mph like a Tesla. Weird.
Love the GTO .
Just love these vids two great cars
Nice muscle car duel.
Wow that GTA was fast olds is quick. I'd love to have either one. Great match up and great video. Thank you 😊
That GTO is the exact color combo mine was. I sure miss that car.
That olds sounds nas-tay.
Like a wet fart nas-tay
Very beautiful Muscle cars brother. The GTO is obviously my favorite and heck it even looks a million times better than the newer Rebadged Holden Monaro GTOs, either way its awesome to see my 2 favorite GM brands drag racing 🏁.
"it was a 455 rocket!"
Great cars, Great race. Thanks
That Olds……oh my……I know, the GTO took the win, and is a great car…..but that Olds. Realizing it’s an H/O, I was still stoked my like came it at 442! Thank you as always ~ Chuck
Wow, that Olds is one Expensive Muscle Car, i guess that's why there weren't too many 68-69 Hurst Olds around.
love your videos. humor is pretty good also. who doesn’t love a good fart noise.
Vaya está Carrera es interesante , 1967 Pontiac Gto vs 1968 Oldsmobile Hurst 442
Gotta love this GM Muscle cars all yrs i like those rear sway bars how the back raised up
The Olds cam with the 328 degree camshaft. The W30 Camshaft
I had a 68 Olds cutlass it had a 350 rocket with a two speed trans ...it was a strong car , it ran when I parked it ...the trouble with the car everything else wore out except the engine and transmission..lol
I had a 68 F85 with the 350r and 2 speed. It was a good car.
Yeah I really wish I kept mine the body was straight engine was strong and the Trans was bullet proof
You got it pontiac !
Numbers say the Olds ran out of fuel or ? At the top end MPH vs ET is not right?

Automactic vs manual was the difference
I'm surprised the GTO ended up being much faster, the Olds 455 are really torque monsters, maybe the auto trans was the slowing factor? A killer sound this Olds had👍😁
Groovy Man ;)
Bring back the toilet jokes
Must've been the 4th gear. 🎱
Those were the days😘😘

It has that new a/c system 4wd55 . Four windows down at 55 mph .
I guess the good torque will get you off the line quick but then the lightweight will help you cross the line quick.
That's right Pontiac and Chevrolet had a in house rivalry in Gm
Traction is always a problem for the GTO. The Olds has a slight edge out of the chute. Despite the traction disadvantage, the GTO (with its flat torque curve over a wide RPM range) will almost always out-accelerate a stock competitor.
I would love to see the GTO with a 455

People forget back in the day different branches of GM competed against each other almost as much as they did against Ford and Chrysler.
What happened to that same horsepower and sme torgue.
Something seems off about the Olds trap speed. But perhaps it's weight was holding it back that much?
we’re those all your friends in the bleachers 😂😂
It almost seemed that the Olds backed out of it half way down.
Pontiac still killing it with 55 less cubes.
Is this the same 68 Hurst Olds that had the beat up front fender and looked like a great barn find, yet smoked everything in the pure stock class??
You are slowlllly inching your way back to fart noises/flatulence. Really do miss the pop culture references and silly humor that the videos once had and hope they return one day.
Quadrajets came in 750 and 800 cfm only.
So the Hurst is 3700 Lbs Curb weight (Minus the driver).? So?..that is really good for a 455 car with full frame. 1968 A bodies are around 200 lbs. lighter than the later 1970 on cars.
Two awsum cars for sure
Switch lanes and do it again.
PONTIACS are better what do you want..........

They always adjust wrong for inflation...that car if built today is 50-60k.. not 38k
Is that a 1/4 mile or the girlie 1000 yrds?
At least at the dragstrip you can get the proper gasoline.
I think your way off on your inflation adjustment
Honestly I thought the Olds was gonna take it. It kinda dogged it down the track.
If you have enough torque a 3.08 can beat a 4.10
