That awkward moment when you realize Heinz Field has been around almost as long as Three Rivers was..... wonder if they'll just knock this one dahn and build a new one

    • @robertlunderwood

Three Rivers was around for 30 years but it was a dual use stadium. Stadiums today are more single purposed and can last longer.

    • @rwboa22
      @rwboa22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Funny that you brought up the relative ages of Pittsburgh's current stadiums (Heinz Field/Aci-whatever Stadium) and old Three Rivers Stadium as the old stadium was 30 years old when it was closed and demolished, whereas Lincoln Financial Field is nearing 19 years and Citizens Bank Park is will be at 18 years, even though Philly stubbornly clung onto the Vet longer than Pittsburgh with Three Rivers despite both stadiums only opening 9 months apart from each other. (And you can blame the Phillies for the hold up, as they vehemently wanted the new ballpark at N. Broad & Spring Garden Street North of the Vine Street Expressway despite numerous opposition by business owners and residents of Chinatown; the Eagles already setting their sights at an old Acme Market distribution center near the old Vet location.)
However, unlike the Phillies and Eagles, which own both of their stadiums, Heinz Field and PNC Park is owned by the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, so any improvements to those two facilities would need taxpayer approval.

If that time were to come I have no clue where the hell they would build a new NFL stadium at. Unless they go the way of Dallas and San Francisco and build a stadium that's like 30 miles from the city that they are represented from

@@robertlunderwood I almost ran with this fun ‘fact’, but I checked Wikipedia before texting my loved ones. it’s 21 years for Heinz and 30 for TRS. Two thirds isn’t almost. Good point about dual use. And an NFL stadium gets way less use than MLB fields. Even with the Panthers playing there it’s still a fraction of the use. Usage isn’t the whole story behind the aging of a stadium, but I imagine it’s a big factor.

Had the rights to the recipe of the Bavarian-style beer (as well as the name of the beer, being "Saint Vincent Beer") been sold off to a layman (under the conditions that the purchaser had to be Catholic and either a Bavarian immigrant or Bavarian-American), just imagine a hypothetical well-known Bavarian beer brewery buying the naming rights for the Steelers' stadium and calling it St. Vincent's Brewery Stadium.

Fools, you think the Steelers are Pittsburgh's team.
Steelers is just about making money.
Baltimore, Oakland, St. Louis, and Cleveland found out when they lost their teams.
So, when you sit down to watch 45 min of commercials with a game squeezed in, that you could be doing something else.
Years ago, Malls used to have vendors in the hallway. They would be selling VCR tapes of the '76 Super Bowl.
Some of these tapes did not delete the commercials. I was watching one of these tapes, and a commercial came on for a '76 Ford truck, and a Budwiser Commercials. Only 2 one minute commercials, and back to the game.

@@amandadelrio7113 It is a shame. I remember as a 11 year old boy. I was approached by a neighbor hood boy about 9 years old, Johnny. His father, and uncle had season tickets to the 1960 Steelers on the 50 yard line. His father wanted to take his son to the game, but couldn't get tickets next to his 50 yard seats.
So Johnny ask everyone who would go to the game.
I was the only one, who wanted to go to the game.
In 1960, the Pirates were more popular.
As a matter of fact, during the Steelers game people were listening to the Pirate game in the stands.
The 1960 Pirates were a great team. The '60 PIRATES beat the Yankees in the 10th inning of the 7th game. Maz hit a home run, and won the game.
That home run is as famous as Franko Harris immaculate reception.
      Back to the Steelers game.
Actually, his Steelers team was a good team, but not great.
      It was a different world.
Ever one in the stadium was polite, normally dressed, men wear hats, dress shirts, leather shoes, and no tee shirts.
There was no alcohol being sold, and no drunks.
Today, no one would let an 11 year old watch and an 9 year old alone at a NFL game, but '60 was a better time.
This also reminds me of the "knot hole club ". It was a program where the Pirates sold cheap tickets to boys.
A gang of 9 year old boys would get on a street car, and go to Forbes Field.
Our seats were in the left field upper deck, but we love our seat.
Because Roberto Clemente, he was great.
He could throw a ball from deep left field to home plate without a bounce.
We had the best seats because we got a good view.
After the game was over, we went home on the street car.
We did this all without a parent in site.
These knots hole games were a great adventure without a parent insight

This is all Jerry Buss's fault for taking that ridiculous amount of money from Great Western Bank (who is also to blame too) in the late 1980's as that opened the Pandora's Box. Sure, there were corporate names before that Iike Arco, Rich and Wrigley, but none of them shelled out lots of money to get their names on there.
These companies who shell out money to have their names on these stadiums are stupid! I mean, has that actually gotten people to invest/spend on their products? The constant name changes would suggest no as apparently, not enough people were buying Heinz condiments (as an example) to the point that Heinz couldn't pay the greedy Rooney's the money they wanted and as a result, we got another stupid name change.
Both the owners (greed, who are never satisfied with the money they have), and the sponsors (waste tons of money thinking it will get more people to invest/buy their products) are at blame here.
I feel sorry for those under contract that are forced to call it by these (mostly) stupid names. But for fans that aren't, but says "who cares" or "get a life", you people are sheep that needs to be sheared to the fullest extent!
PS - Lincoln (Financial) Field (home of the Steelers NFC arch rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles) would have been fine, but after a bleep executive had the audacity to tell Philadelphians that he expects them to call it by that name, deserves to have that name bleeped on, with him deserving the Floyd treatment!
