    This video was terrific! - I'm not an auto mechanic, but considering the $1250.00 potential cost of this repair at a dealer, I decided to watch the video and try to fix the part myself. The step by step was precise and accurate and made diagnosis very simple. I had a bad motor, so I purchased a used unit and replaced the entire system in less than an hour for $110.00 dollars. Great learning experience and many thanks for the great video!

    Many, many thanks! The hub nut came off my motor last weekend. An easy fix once I got down there, but I wouldn't have gotten down there without this video. Instead of a couple hundred dollars at the shop, the job cost me $1.88 in parts and a bit of skin off a knuckle. What a bargain!

    You saved me a fortune in dealership repair labor! I just pulled the wiper unit out, greased the linkage and replaced the motor and it works again! Although shaky and unfocused due to holding the camera and trying to take it apart at the same time, your video gave me the basics on disassembly procedures. Awesome! THANK YOU!

    Your video is an excellent guide for working on this problem. My problem was the loose nut. We get a lot of rain, so for an item of this vintage that had such a minor failure I remain amazed that I could sort it out with your video. While in there, I also took advantage of cleaning the blower squirrel cage, and cleaned all of the old mud from inside the collection cavity. Thanks again.

    Wow dude, that's a lot of good comments, I just started at Mercedes and I never had to do this in my previous line if work, I never would of thought this job would be so involved. Your video saved my rep at work, especially with the nut positioning of the wiper. People like you make a difference. Great vid!

    great video! I had started taking things apart on my 2000 C230 compressor to replace the motor. Really had no clue what I was doing but getting thru it. Struggled thru the clips on the cover as you did. While looking for a motor on line came across your video. Was perfect for confirming the next step needed now just waiting on the motor. Not sure what motivates you to post videos such as this but glad you do. So as my dear sweet mother would say "Thank You until you're better paid."

    HI, Your videos are great - having just gone through the process of doing this twice after my replacement motor failed, I wanted to add a couple of possibly useful comments.
    1) I found that an easier way to release the 2 problematic central clips was to push with a screwdriver from under the panel from the windscreen side once you have undone all the other clips.
    2) After the nylon cog in the motor was destroyed for the second time, I went to a local specialist Merc scrapper here in the UK and they recommended I swap the whole mechanism and motor assembly for the one off a W210 - the cost was the same. It looks slightly different, and other than needing to swap over the wiper end of the arm (a single allen key bolt but hard to pull off as a tight fit), it is a direct replacement and a much more robust design - it feels more solid.

    I'm sooo gratefull to you for this video ! I had a hard time because I'm not used to doing mechanics and I could'nt find the proper tools, and it was raining many times, and... I got so upset that the first time I didn't watch it till the end before I put everything back on, thinking I need to buy the motor (which was running, but I thought it may have ran week). Then I watched the end of your video and had a doubt about the 17 and 13 you're mentionning, I motivated myself (1 hours before night!) and disassembled it all again. Tada ! The 13 was simply missing! and I stupidly found it normal the first time (duh!). I found the missing 13 "screw" with a magnet. It had simply fell (and the wiper stopped working yesterday, after showing weeknesses for a month or so after snow...). A friend told me yesterday it could be a loose screw, but he had in mind a car where they are accessible. Without you video I could'nt ever have had a chance to fix it myself. Tomorrow morning, I just need to figure out how to find the proper "0" position. Could'nt find a satisfactory one befor night... Thank you so much again !!!
    *** Résumé en français : vidéo pour réparer un essui glace en panne alors que le moteur fonctionne sur une mercedes classe C 180 essence. Thank you so much! Great video, and it is really great that you say what size all the bolts and nuts are so a tool lacking rookie like me can fix the wiper too. My wiper had stopped moving, but I could hear the motor running, so I knew I had to tighten a nut or two. When I got it appart the 13 mm nut connected to the motor was missing, so the whole arm had fallen off. I found the nut and got it all back together. Again: Thank you!

    This must be a common occurrence for our W202s, huh? My motor went the other day. I took the "turtle cover" off and thought that was the way to get to the motor. Removed everything inside of it and got stumped at the "screw" in the center of the mechanism. I though I needed a MB Specialty tool and ended up butchering it. Now I've come to realize I didn't need to do any of that. haha. Thank you for your video. This has helped me a great deal! Subscribed!

    Thank you Fupabox, your video clips are always informative and very detailed, which gives us the confidence to keep amd maintain our W202 (6yrs strong now) our wiper arm had bent internally and have managed to fix it by watching your clips to remove the wiper and bracing it with 30mm SST + rivets + tonnes of grease. (which was the reason for fail) Thank you once again and keep up the Great work.

    Thank you for uploading this video! It really helped me sort out the problem i had with my windshield wiper. On my car, it turned out all i had to do was tighten the 14mm nut on the back of the windshield wiper base, as it had loosened.
    These old mercs are good, reliable cars, and if you can do some of the maintenance yourself they are quite cheap to run aswell. Thanks to your video i saved both cash and probably some time just doing it myself!
    Cheers!

    Thanks for your help.
    The dealership ran the VIN and gave me the original part number- when I asked him which manufacturer or motor type it was he told me "I put the number in the computer, it tells me what number part to replace it with- that's all it tells me".
    I'm in North America. Parts shops want to know if it's SWF or Valeo equipped. I have no clue, no one else seems to either just that they're two different motors that don't appear to be interchangeable.
    Thanks so much for responding.

    This might depend on where you live. In the UK I believe the change was in 1997 with the minor restyle (the flick on the boot/trunk and the aero bodywork). Mine is a 1999 C240. eBay was the first clue to be careful of. (eBay sellers note the difference). There is no plug on the bulkhead, and the cable has a water seal that fits in a cut-out in the fusebox and has a thin green connector about an inch long on it.

    I just read what to do with a wiper that parks on the passanger side. So just to make sure I need to remove the entire wiper system (motor and tranmission) to be able to get the wiper to park correctly, right? I cannot do this procedure without having to remove the system. Just what to make sure I understand it correctly. Thanks. By the way you have saved me thousands of dollars. So far I have change my spark plugs, clean Mass air flow sensor, Throttle body, and cabin filter. Its my first c-230.

    Hi, thanks for the video. It's not that hard, especially when some kind mechanic has ripped off most of the tabs from a previous fix!
    If you have a late model W202, there is a different electrical connector. To fit this, you have to unscrew the cover of the fuse box (about 6 screws) and it simply unplugs. The connectors are numbered if you are not sure which way round it goes back. Easy enough, but if you are ordering a replacement from the breaker's yard, watch you get the right version.

    I've had a couple of mechanics just "look at it" so far and they both want me to change the wiper motor... which would be fine if I was anywhere BUT Australia; the cheapest one I can find here is 550 bucks.
    I'm going to have my mechanic disassemble the whole thing and diagnose it... but if I can have a go at it beforehand with some grease, it would be good. What sort of grease should I use, if I do this by the way?

    one thing you should always do when encountering anything that moves is lubricate it, i noticed you did not mention lubricating the shafts that you did explain to tighten up. with my 190E i removed everything like you did and lubricated everything, Ive learnt first with my fan controll speed switch (1993) i took it apart and fixed it. anything that can be token apart and fixed are well worth proper care since todays vehicles are all replacment rather then fixes. Nice video tho, Pe

    I have a leak in hose near windshield nozzle/sprayer on w203 (MB C240, 2004). Have problem removing the hood grill where 2 nozzles are located. I unscrewed 3 bolts, but something is holding nozzles assembly. Do you have some recommendations take those elements apart?

  • @fupabox
    @fupabox  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    you need to enable replies for me to reply to your question...
    on the washer nozzles you will see 2 little metal holes where the fluid comes from...take a sewing needle and gently poke it in one of the holes..then you can move the little metal spray hole around (it's a ball socket inside and can be moved around) until it hits where you want on the windshield

      Hey Fupabox. I am having wind noise coming from the front of my windshield on the bottom. It is making me ANGRY and I need to figure out how to fix this. I checked all the edges and it seems like there are no gaps. I even put some window sealant around the bottom of the window and I am still getting noise. My only guess is that the plastic cover under the leaf protector is the cause of it. There is a rubber lip that has worn off. Wind must be getting under that plastic and causing the noise. What is that plastic part under the leaf protector called? I have a 2001 e320 sedan.

    Thanks for the instruction video. I am about to change my windscreen wiper motor for the 4th time since I bought my 2001 W202 in 2008. Very reliable car and all but the windscreen wiper mechanism and motor is a weak spot in this vehicle. OK, I bought a cheap aftermarket motor for my 3rd replacement which was not up for the job as it stopper running after 10min because it got warm evenethough I have lubricated the mechanism. And the ax easily got worn down so there was not grip on the transmission anymore which is also a weak spot.

      fupabox Removing the whole mechanism is indeed easy for me now 😄 I have an office job yet I do not fear repairing stuff. And I worked at a Mercedes dealer for 1 year which allowed to me learn a few things from the maintenance guys. Still, your video is really nice in seeing all steps in one video.
      Got 1 tip for you I learned from the repair guys regarding removing the plastic clamps to take the large cover out: take an old and thin screwdriver and bent the top 4cm to an 45 degree angle. With that tool you can easily unclip the difficult ones by sticking the tip behind the clip and twist it so it comes loose.

      the older single wipers (190 and 300 from the 1980s early 1990s had a cover that wasn't removeable. The w202 plastic cover can be pryed from the bottom and pops off fairly easily

    Hey Fupabox
    I have a 1995 c36 amg and I bend to replace the neutral safety switch .
    Should I approve it from under the car or from the inside of the car?
    If I bring it to a Mecchanic how much am I looking to pay him ? I have the part so it would only be for labor .
    Thank u in advance n I love your videos. I learned a lot of stuff from u

    @fupa, you are NOT kidding those middle clips are utter, utter, utter bastards. Just got those centre clips to release and I'll be swapping out my motor. The blade sticks in the same place each time so I'm guessing the worm gear has chewed out the nylon drive gear. Great video, I wish I was as calm during the removal as you seem to be, the air here in the UK is BLUE.

    My wiper starts to smell like burn when there is continues use after say 10 minutes. So probably the motor of the wiper is kind of burned. What do you think?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SaurierDNA it could need lubrication..binding from lack of grease will cause the motor to overwork and smell burnt

    ***** Hey can you help me with something :) On 9:07 in the vid, where you are showing your broken braket, the left peace(the bigger one) - how do you get to the half circle mechanism with a gear-wheel inside it ( you put your hand on it 9:17) ? Loosen the 17mm bolt in the back or in the front where the extension and retraction of the wiper arm ? Do I have to grease inside it too, or is it an overkill. Thanks

    Thanks for posting. Awesome video. The wiper arm for my 95 E320 broke last night and this happened while driving on the freeway during a storm. It actually broke on the part where the allen screw is located that holds the wiper arm. Just wondering if I could purchase the wiper arm separately? Thanks in advance.

    Hi. Not sure if you will read this but I have to access the heater core hose in the space beneath the drip guars there. It calls for removing the wiper motor and then the drip guard beneath. But to remove the drip guard it is neccessary to disconnect the computer and move it aside. I am reluctant to do this. Have you ever had to change the heater core connector hose? w202.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t had to replace the heater hose before . If the computer needs to be disconnected then make sure you take the proper steps to unhook the battery safely . Keys out of ignition .Remove the NEGATIVE cable , then the positive . ( reverse when hooking the battery back up ) . Once the battery is fully disconnected cover the battery with something so the terminals on top of the battery can’t be touched ( a towel or tag is fine ) now take the negative cable and the positive cable that are disconnected and touch them together for 20 seconds . This will discharge any electricity left in the electrical system . If your cables are too short to touch each other you can use a piece of wire , coat hanger , anything metal to reach between them. Make sure the posts / terminals on your battery aren’t touched during this discharge process . Now you can safely remove the computer . Reverse the battery unhooking process once the computer is back in . Positive cable onto battery first then negative. Only once it is all back together should you put the key into the ignition. Hope that helps

    how do I find out which type of motor I have without pulling it? Trying to order a replacement motor, and though I have the original parts number and have run the VIN- everyone wants to know which motor it is.. Not even the mercedes dealership could tell me which one it is. I'm not the one doing the repair so how do I find that without pulling it out?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      to get to the gear on the wiper arm ( not the one inside the motor ) you need to pull the whole assembly out and remove the bolt on the backside of the main wiper shaft..the one the blck turtle cover pivots on ..and pull the whole arm with the turtle cover off the main wiper mount..the gear is under the back side of the turtle cover

    I've got a similar issue to a lot of people here, but my wiper still actually moves; it just goes REALLY slow at some points (and it sounds like the motor is struggling)
    My issue is that the problem started happening really suddenly, and it can also vary in severity (from almost not able to move, to nearly moving properly) which leads me to believe my actual gears are fine. Can you share any wisdom?

    My problem is that the windshield wiper doesnt move. it sits in one position and vibrates. I was told it was fixed by the mechanics at the dealership after dropping almost $1k on a new transmission, but the same problem happens again. I was told this time by the dealership that some teeth on a gear where gone, and i needed to replace a gear or something like that. Does this seem legit? If so, where do i find these gear teeth?
    Thanks

    I took my '99 c280 to an Indie he said bad motor.
    It is now working but the blade parks on passenger side, where prior it would park on drivers side. I also couldn't see the blade from inside before, now it seems it sits up higher on the windshield than before.
    Any tips on how to remedy this?

    As always, Fupa comes through in the clutch.. really wish you were still doing W202 videos.. having troubles with wiring harness and maybe injectors.. anyhow before I digress further- serviced the wiper transmission but now the wiper will not got back to the original park position. Parking at drivers side 9 o clock position. Any idea how to remedy?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to align the wiper arm’s position when it’s off . Take the arm off turn wiper motor on then off . Now the off position of the motor is set . Now turn the inner gears of the arm so that the arm is unextended and all the way left as it would be when parked . Then reinstall the arm

      +Jason Hedges did you lubricate the sliding arm under the big black turtle shell cover ?

    • @jasonhedgesphotos
      @jasonhedgesphotos 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +fupabox Hi, I am sitting here looking at it and scratching my head. I lubricated the arm and all pivotal points. I noticed that the arms on the back perhaps go so far back I can barely move it by hand without nudging the arm back so it can move. The wiper moves so the motor should be fine but just churns at points and stops moving. Real time tuition. You got to love the internet!

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason Hedges either the gears are stripped or the other possibility is this free fix..check this one first th-cam.com/video/mfqExxuwqyA/w-d-xo.html

    • @jasonhedgesphotos

      +fupabox Interestingly enough, I started to dismantle the motor and plugged it in to test the motor just by it's self with no arms attached etc. I then started the ignition and held by hand the rotating part, I could actually apply enough pressure to hear the churn. So I thought it has to be the motor slipping. By pure luck I found one at the local scrap yard, replaced and fitted. So all good now. If anyone needs any parts except the motor then you can reply to this post as I took the whole mechanism in case. +fupabox..good job.
