Love my Chatahoula she's almost 10 months old born December 7th 2019 raised her since birth truly one of the best breeds of dog you can own she's so loving and independent. She loves running around my house large Place for her to run. She never fails to make me Laugh. And she learned pretty fast :)
I just found my little soulmate, Deja Blu! I held her the day she was born and now I can't fathom life without her! What amazing dogs! Thank you for sharing this video!
+Rachel Bienert I adopted the same mixed breed as you and she is unbelievably smart. I think she is smarter than most people I know..... including myself!
Muryx No she took the dog when i was at work and brought it to the humane society and they would not give it back to me because it was registered under her name when we got him care, nor would they give me any update on what happen broke my heart, not losing her the dog. Then I left her promptly.
This is awesome and so true. I had two Catahoulas and they were the best dogs I ever had in my life. The are super intelligent and loyal. Love them all.
I love my catahoula, they're great dogs. Mine lives to swim, so now I use her when I go duck hunting, she took to the commands really quickly, just like the rest of her trainig agenda.
So true! Thanks for sharing... hopefully this will help ignorant/new owners of catahoulas understand the intensity and loyalty... intelligence and curiosity. Best breed if you have some patience initially
Great video; warmed up my chilly Massachusetts day to see your wonderful dog and the Cali scenery! (Why ARE they called the White Mountains? I've seen them pink, brown, purple, hazy blue, even greenish, but white? Somewhere a Mr. White is shaking his head and saying, "No, I wanted those much larger mountains to the west to be named after me....")
My Catahoula doesn't like to swim or fetch. He does however love to run and be chased by our Aussie. Mine also poops all over our property. Sometimes right in front of the door.
I adopted a rescue at the pound they told me she was a pitbull. The more I research the more I think she is a catahoula hound dog . She loves to go hunting/searching. She sees a squirl, rabbit , prairie dog even mice she goes crazy to chase them. She is just not built like a pitbull . She is slim n not to stocky . I'm hoping to learn more bout the breed.
I adopted my Catahoula, Seamus, from the SPCA when he was about 2 and he wasn't too well trained then but he's really nice and highly intelligent so he listens to commands and is super loving. I've been walking him with a leash, but how can I tell if it's okay to let him off and run around? How can I train him to come when called when he's so far away?
You could get a long rope and when he's at the end of it call him to you. Get him used to always coming when you call. Or take him to an enclosed dog park and call him. Slowly work up to the great outdoors until you trust he will always come when called. Birdie, the dog featured in the video hasn't ever had this problem but he was off-leash from the get go since we live in a rural area. Best of luck with the training. Catahoulas are great dogs.
Carry lots of treats and give them a few whenever he comes back and lots of praise. Don't worry about too many treats. He'll have no trouble burning off calories.
Many thanks all. Birkie has grown into a fine middle-aged hound since this was made. I've read him all the comments that you all so thoughtfully posted and he we totally pleased. Thanks, he says. He still plays in the water and runs in the desert. He is also still my muse, though we have added another family member, Matilda. The hound and her are like brother and sister and we tell them that they are in fact brother and sister. Be interesting to see what side the daughter takes. Personally, if she grew up to be a dog as good as Birkie I'd be as proud as a father on Harvard or Yale graduation day.
yup....with the exception of rain or water hose (I guess because of the desire to be dry), my boy loves the water. he doesn't seem to care for balls or other toys, but will run for days if allowed (I don't know about now, hes a lil out of shape), and as far as walking....he wont do that to me, because im onto him....but he will to anybody else. I warn them to be firm and he gets them anyways....either trying to stay with me, or just taking them for a walk because they are trying to take him where he wants to go....its funny to watch

Agreed. I have a Catahoula/German Shepherd mix and he is the smartest dog I know.
+Rachel Bienert I adopted the same mixed breed as you and she is unbelievably smart. I think she is smarter than most people I know..... including myself!
Kris Quinn I'll agree with that! My dog was smarter than my ex was, and it seemed to piss her off.
I noticed you kept the dog and not the jealous human. Smart move.

Beautiful dog 🐕
This breed is amazing
I am from Catahoula Parish, Louisiana. I must say you and your dog know what is up. Bravo!
I have a catahoula/dobie mix and the dog in this video acts exactly the same way as my Rusty Dog! Such a good boy!

Nice quality throughout...love the wet mike. Could be called "How to Be Walked by a Catahoula" but you knew that....
This is a cute video. I have two of them and love them dearly.
so excited owned one catahoula and grew up with one! finally getting a puppy in a month :)
Wonderful video!
My Catahoula hates hates water. Will hunt for 20 miles but if a rabbit crosses over a stream forget it.
Great video. My 5 year old labahoula has the same energy
What a beautiful place for a walk
Every dog I've ever had was like this
This is so accurate 😂
My Cata doesn’t like getting wet. It is torture for him when it is raining outside to go out :D

You can get a dna test for the dog

Mine is blind so we r afraid of her eyes getting damaged because they haven't been permanently closed so she has been is swimming water
You don't walk at catahoula. They walk you!
If I let my dog walk like lat I think she would never come back.
+phoebe mix If you don't trust your dog coming back to you, then you are doing something wrong.
kewl dawg, wish my hoola like the water.
