  • Storm Water Catch Basin Drainage System
    Protecting your home from rain water and runoff is a high priority. If proper water drainage is not installed, then storm water runoff can puddle near downspouts, in your yard, flower beds or other planting areas - causing damage to your home structure. In this video we show an option for properly managing runoff water using drainage catch basin.

    Suggestion: Use the stake pockets on top of your handy wagon and build a small work bench about work height off the top of the wagon, the height should be enough where you can still reach under to get things out of the wagon.

    Will this work for me if I want all the water to go in this then pump it out with a pump to another location or into street ? I have huge issue in my yard and have natural springs that add to flooded back yard and around my pool in Vegas?

      All of those components were bought at HD Fowler here in Bremerton Washington. Most of these components are not available at your local big box stores. If you contact your local septic tank supplier they will have the tank risers which is what the green tube is. And the top and bottom caps or just septic tank riser lids.

    Great job with the work and with the video. Have two questions, did you have to glue all the joints for them to pass the inspection, or was that just your thing? Next I did not see any gravel or stone of any kind go in the hole, did you not have to put stone in or did I miss that part? Everyone is telling me I need all this stone, but I just can not see it if I am putting in 4 large catch basins in. Was told we needed one at each corner of the house. Any feed back by May will be a big help. Thank you.

      Ground movement happens... glue your stuff so it stays put, also as a plumber, i will say, always put at least enough gravel around any peice in the ground to cover 6-12 inches past all directions of pip or whatever it is, it allows drainage to occur around it, keeps roots and things away from the pipe,and the gravel will move before the pipe does as well, so yes, use stone-gravel

      Oh the top 3-4 ft use soil though, you don't want a gravel mess on top, soil will keep it in place

    Great videos Daniel, thank you! I have watched about 10 of these. I am in Kitsap and will be doing an infiltration pit setup for a new build that is a Hiline 2232 (sq ft) model. I want to do sch. 40 white pvc into a black catch basin that is shown in other vids. for gutter drainage. Do I need a separate foundation drain that goes around the footer (french) that is separate from the waste water system? Any idea of how big of an I-Pit I will need to pass code? Thanks again, very helpful info.

      You will need a sight development plan that will give the dimensions and specification for the I Pit. I recommend using the septic design plan and making copies then editing it to show how you are going to follow the kitsap county BMP’s

      @@DanielWoodell @Daniel Woodell Thanks. I should have mentioned that it is a replacement home. My SWPPP Plan showed an existing i-pit, no catch basin. Just wondering if the footer drain was left out of these builds?

    • @DanielWoodell
      @DanielWoodell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garybugle7983 I did not install footer drains as they are not required in Kitsap County, they are recommend by the county and the county also has minimum slop away form the house requirements. In the case of this video this house has no sloped banks pointed at the house so there will be no water problems. If your houses will had banks/slops that will allow water to sheet across the top of the ground or across the hard pain and the top soil then yes you should install footer drain on those sides. At Min 4:24 in this video you will see all the water I'm stand in in on this house we did end up installing footer f\drain in the front to the house. th-cam.com/video/9M44JLXKV24/w-d-xo.html

      No most of these come from a local plumbing supply store. In my area, western Washington by Seattle the store is called HD Fowler.

    Drainage 101: if water is in motion keep it in motion, don’t stop it to have to catch it again and put it in motion again. If it was me, I would do the following :-
    1. Install the new catch basin with dummy pipes leading into and out of it to fool the inspector.
    2. Reroute the 4” solid pvc pipe from gutter downspouts, circling the fake basin, to the end point infiltration pit you have prepared,.
    Alternatively after a period of time, use a slip fix telescopic joiner to join catch basin inlet and outlet to skip over the catch basin. The reason would be, there is no sense in catching water, then releasing it into a catch basin, then re-piping it to final outlet at the I-pit. I, too, would be whining like a b*-*- at the unnecessary cost of the catch basin.

    I'm confused . Water comes from downspouts if house to catch basin . Then another entry from other side . Where is that coming from or does the water fill up and go out that side . Also why is their a vertical line up and down . And why are there different kinds of mesh attached to both sides .

    • @DanielWoodell
      @DanielWoodell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well the simplest answer is becuase the county and their engieers are really dumb!!!
      This video explain where the eater comes from
      th-cam.com/video/PTBaoUDlB14/w-d-xo.html

      This Video explains where the water goes to
      th-cam.com/video/ktm8lS-AICs/w-d-xo.html
      As for the mesh the ides is that under normal rainfall in this area the water will go up the vertical pipe and out to the infiltration pit. And the small screen will stop the debris from getting in to the infiltration pit. And then under really heavy rain for is the small screen gets clogged the water will go over the top of the vertical pipe and go out to the infiltration pit. That is the thought as designed by some engineer that has never had to install or use one of these. I can tell you that this will cause problems in the long run because i have a different system on my house and it also has problems with this very similar dessine. Hope this helps.

    I find it odd to use a catch basin for rain run off unless it has a grate on top I guess they want to catch crap in it .

      It catches the sediment from the roof drains. It's just not a simple small one you sometimes see right under a drain spout.

    25 years ago we cheaped out on catch basin , we installed a 2 foot deep basin , but we found out later that at least 36 diameter and 4 feet deep was need , so don't complain about spendind money

    You are fortunate to not be building in Bellevue where a concrete Type 1 CB with an iron frame and locking lid is preferred. You really should use the rubber gasket where the pipe slides through your new CB Just loose fitting the pipe does not meet specs, and you will have future problems with roots getting into your system.
