For a truly superb talk on Poetry and poiesis please see professor Emily Motzkus's Ted talk on you tube. Truly sublime. Emily is a great poet herself. Apropos the sixties being the new thirties. I'm in my early 50s. Never felt so young and sprightly. Nice to hear a reading from a contemporary American poet. Thank you ,Malcolm. And thank you for the joy and inspiration you bring to a world in much need of it. Don't know whether you are au fait with Mary Olivers Poetry. Tremendous verse. Great Poetess. Best wishes, Noel 🌹🎆

Thank you very much for introducing me to such a great poet. I just purchased this collection of her poetry and it can have a place on my shelf among the several wonderful collections of your own. May God continue to bless you greatly.

I write poetry, or at least I try to, but during these ever darkening days I often find myself tempted to give it up in order to devote my energy in pursuit of more practical things. However, I have recently discovered your channel which has given me much encouragement and hope, and every time I am confronted with a new or old beautiful poem, I feel there is something in these poems that has a claim on me that I cannot walk away from regardless of any sacrifices I might have to make. Poetry for me is a matter of life or death.

Hopefully some Dungeons and Dragons fans will buy this by accident and be pleasantly surprised into poetry! I love the bird poem, being woken by the blackbird in the tree outside our window is such a beautiful thing, in the half-dreaming state I felt I could comprehend his song. Thankyou for sharing Malcolm, and hope you will be globe trotting again soon,

Yes! A D&D fan! The phrase, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" doesn't begin to make sense until you've successfully DM'd a party through a Beholder's Lair.

I've been meaning to get some of Luci Shaw's poetry for a while. It's been a while seen I've seen it, but I think I first heard about her in the poetry reading you did at Biola, that her magazine was the first American publication to print one of your poems (I may be mistaken on that, though). Then I came across a poem or two of hers in Word in the Wilderness. Going to have to get a copy of her poetry soon. Also, as someone in his thirties, the idea of sixty being the new thirty has a nice ring to it. Lol. 🙂

Ps, Mary Oliver's Franz Marc's four blue horses is so highly recommended. A pinnacle of 20th century Western poetry....who is it that knocks three times on the door before they enter? A friend is asking me. I know not the answer. So I said the ghost of Christmas past............

Malcolm, can you reccomend any starting detailed books on lives of the saints? I figured no one better to ask than a clergyman 😊

The first poem is also a riff on Psalm 1

And could the third poem, with the singing bird, also be in dialogue with Stevens' concluding "Not Ideas about the Thing, But the Thing Itself" ?
