In my case, my "game changer" was my order from Amazon of the spring loaded jar lifter. After I began to lose some strength due too ageing, this was my life saver to stop dropping my jars! So invest in one, you won't be disappointed!

Something I would add that I can not live without is my Dutch oven. It is perfect for rendering fat, making stews, soups, frying anything, making stir fry meals, or any Asian meal. We (my husband and I) use it probably 5 times a week for dinners. It is so versatile and the higher sides cut down on the splatter.

I also love my electric tea kettle. I boil water every morning and put it in my carafe (thank you Mary for suggesting this handy item in your winter video -- I got it super cheap at a thrift store and use it daily. It's very high quality and I don't think whoever donated had ever used it).

I found an amazing book (for me) today! Too Many Tomatoes, Squash, Beans, and other Good Things, by Lois M. Landau, pub. Harper Perennial originally in 1976. I found it in used books online for less than the published price. Win!
I sure wish I had found it back then. I get so tired of the same old vegetables or more accurately prepared the same old way. This book is so exciting to me because most of the recipes are new to me without using exotic or strange ingredients.
There are 20 vegetables listed. All are common in America and each has at least 8 variations! As a bonus for me there is a brief section before each vegetable covering growing, harvesting, basics (which includes pounds = cups= servings), storing, freezing, cooking, prepping, and herbs to use with.
I am in love with this book. No more boring veggies for me!

Love that fat separator! Saw it in one of your broth videos and ordered. Made your anti inflammatory beef bone broth and the fat separator worked beautifully!
I did pressure can most jars, but the ones I refrigerated were super gelatinous. Youd be proud of this first timer!

Before things get away from me (as they always do this time of year) I wanted to take a moment to let you know how precious you are to this community. I have enjoyed every single one of your videos for so many reasons. Your sweet voice, your lovely way of presenting some pretty difficult to understand processes in a way that I can understand, your beautiful aprons, your sweet family (dog included) , your informative downloads you provide for us, and of course the incredible amount of knowledge you share so generously about the nutritional kitchen and about how to live a healthier life. I cannot thank you enough for that. The changes that I have made in my life because of the things that you have taught me are priceless. No words just a full and thankful heart. I am so grateful for that gift and so are my friends and family because they have all benefitted from that knowledge. So I just wanted to wish you and your sweet family a very Merry Christmas and a very wonderful and prosperous New Year. Thank You for all the joy and knowledge that you share with so many. God Bless you Mary! ❤

My latest, greatest find is my new steam canner! I can steam can anything that can be water bath canned. It uses a fraction of the water, so it heats up quickly. I don’t burn myself now, from not seeing the height of the bath water. It’s so much more manageable than using a huge pot of water.

Wow! Great video! We got some of your greatest hits plus Green solutions. I try to use glass containers and we switched to cloth napkins and cleaning cloths. I liked the compostable products. I never use microfiber because it will ultimately degrade into soil or water ways. The other day I was at a home store and ALL their dish towels were microfiber. Ugh! I look forward to more videos using Green products and how to use them. Thank you. Btw, I’ve learned so much from your channel and because of you I consistently make bone broth and yogurt… and so much more! Thank you 😂

Great video and I found a few products to try that I wasn’t familiar with. Also, for those that already have a Food Saver, there are attachments that you can use to seal both regular and wide mouth canning jars. This is a great option for those who would like to store items in glass but don’t want another ‘tool’ in their kitchen. TFS!

About the Zwilling set, and I hope my experience is useful to someone. My husband bought the set, plus extra storage vessels-medium and large. I loved the concept. The quality of the borosilicate glass is lovely and sturdy. And the compact shape is refrigerator space-saving friendly. I really really wanted to like these. I needed to like these, but I just couldn’t. The lids have a design flaw, which I explained in great detail to customer support.
I hated to do it, but I returned the set and extras. HOWEVER, I purchased the Zwilling hand-held vacuum pump separately. I LOVE this pump! Absolutely love it. Works sooo much better than the hand-held FoodSaver pump that I no longer use.
I’ve been using my Zwilling pump for over a year now, daily. I just love it. My husband machined a simple little plug adapter so that I can use the Zwilling pump with my *wide-mouth* FoodSaver Mason jar accessory, which I use all of the time-could not live without it. And because I struggled way too much with the FoodSaver *regular-mouth* jar mason accessory, he machined a simple jar accessory to replace the small-mouth FoodSaver accessory, which also accommodates the Zwilling pump. FoodSaver really needs to listen to their customers and fix this problem.
BTW the Zwilling pump does fit the FoodSaver oval-shaped storage containers, which I used for nuts and seeds, dried fruit, granolas, and 1-lb bags of specialty flours. If I’m not mistaken, it’s the same type of sturdy crystal-clear stain-and-odor resistant Tritan material that Vitamix uses for their blender containers.
Different topic, I’m wondering if you see a grain flaker in your future?
I’m definitely going to try the vinegar solution. I’ve been using diluted bleach as that was always my grandma’s choice.

BTW, Weck is the oldest canning company, making all things canning, comparable to Ball here. They did not only make jars with those clamps to seal, the old ones were much different, they also made the water canner pots. The lids hat a hole in the center where a thermometer was inserted. Different temps for different fruit/vegetables. Very unlike USA waterbath canning!

I'm sad you didn't talk more about the Zwilling containers, they are absolutely incredible for freezer meals. But what's best about them is the app! Glass food storage containers that come with a vacuum sealer for freshness AND their own app for convenient organization is the ultimate game changer. The app will notify you when something homemade is approaching it's best before date. 🤯 I only have 4 of the large casserole style containers but I have already ordered another 15 and intend on getting more than that too. 😅 I'm addicted. These are fantastic and it can't be overstated.

Ms. Mary, I have always supported you and your channel.
You give info that many truly need.
Having said that…. I have noticed that many channels have begun a “new trend” of saying… I use XYZ because it is affordable.
Lovely lady, there are many folks out here that are surviving on Social Security only. For whatever reasons we have no pensions or other income.
My electric bills this year were never under $350.00/ month, not to mention the prices of food/gasoline/everything has gone through the roof.
I know that for folks who have a spouse and or a second income it has been rough also, but for those of us who barely survive paycheck to paycheck, something that you all find “ very affordable “ is forever beyond our reach. I love you ma’am,and am not grouching at you. Guess I just needed to get that off of my chest.

I understand completely. Things are very expensive these days and what is considered affordable for one may not be for the other. • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  ปีที่แล้ว +5

Hi Larissa, The round pan styles sift out more of the bran and the germ to get closer to the consistency of an all-purpose flour. Also, the nice thing about the pan sifters is that they come in different mesh densities such as 40, 50, 60, etc. You can pick a density based on how much bran and germ you want to sift out of your whole grain flour. The tighter the mesh, the more bran and germ that will be sifted out. Love, Mary
