  • As the days start to grow longer, I keep hoping the never ending winter sleet, rains and winds will start to stop … but so far ... there is little change. For inspiration I finally got round to putting a video together of my first multi day trip from last year. It started on a lovely spring day on 10th of April 2019.. so hopefully .. the better boating weather cant be far away now ?

    Hello Donny. Another great journey and the weather looked on your side this time. Nice to see the Honwave T38 out with you, looks like the same setup as mine. My Friday night spent watching a few of your delightful videos. As usually really enjoyed watching. Right off to bed now 😅. Atb Steve 👍.

    Another wonderful video Donny, I am now a firm fan! Plus I am just starting out in the wonderful world of sibbing so I look to you videos now for inspiration and education too. Keep up the good work 😉.
    Incidentally- bit of a family connection to the original filming of “Mull of Kintire”- my grandparents happened to be holidaying there when it was being filmed and she actually appeared in it for a couple of seconds. If you happen to watch it she appears at 4.10 🥰. Unfortunately now both long since departed.

    Good to see another great video. I really envy you with the whole right to roam - wild camping thing; I wish we had the same arrangement in England.

      Hi Chris..good to see you still around. Im heading off wild camping tomorrow and will stay away from all people.. until I get fed up or just before the big lockdown that I think may happen soon. The virus is close to my home town now ..even up here ..so want out the city for some last adventures while its possible. I don't envy city dwellers in this situation..it frightens me :-( stay safe

    Great Video I'm also watching this area and its nooks and crannys being under sail mainly by keepturningleft Dylan Winter both confirm the colours and beauty of scottish west coast..

    Hi Donny I have just purchased a honewave T35 AI 10hp Honda outboard and I’m looking for what’s involved in planning a trip like this and also where you get your bow cover . Really enjoying your videos there amazing Thanks simon and Olivia

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Maximusbegg ..Im sure you will get a lot of fun from the boat. I made the bow cover from an old piece of canvas and a bending tent pole. Excel Boats make and sell commercial ones though. Going long multi day trips comes with experience..so take things easy to begin with and build up your confidence and skill and it will become second nature ..but don't underestimate long exposed sea crossings in a wee boat. Stay safe and build up skills gradually :-D

      Hi Stephen .. I initially started the videos with the idea that folks like yourself could see where to launch and what to see when going to the places I visit. Perhaps when covid is behind us we can meet for an adventure ..but no point planning just now as lockdowns are more frequent than bad weather at present .. stay safe

      Hi Duncan ..glad you enjoy the videos. Gordon has the Air floor T38IE and also an Excel 420 Virago. He had a Ali Floor Honwave T35 but sold it on a couple of years ago as he prefers the airfloors

    Donny another great video. Out of interest are you planning on attending the Rib.Net Easedale Rib Rendezvous beginning of May?

      @donnywilcox  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrew ..I read ERR is now cancelled. I would not have gone under normal circumstances as Im often in that area and its not my idea of fun being tail end Charlie in a large group of boats. Hope we all get some decent boating done this year..Im heading away for a few days to a remote coastline and wild camping. I may die of the cold..but is not as bad a coronavirus from what I hear.. So stay safe

      Donny Wilcox yes that’s correct. I have a foot in both camps, well three actually. I’m an avid dinghy sailer, play on a Highfield 660 rib with a 150hp motor mainly on the Solent, but excitingly have recently taken ownership of an Excel SD365 which I will pair with a 9hp unit, and an Excel XHD365 with ali floor which has a brand new Tohatsu 20hp efi. Whole reason for these two is so that I can slow the pace down a bit and feel more ‘connected’ with the surroundings like I do when sailing. Also my plan for this year is to travel with my son up to the Scottish west coast and sib camp on some of those amazing places you’ve filmed. Even round here there are so many places to explore which the rib would struggle with, and we are going to take both out for mackerel fishing late spring with a view to cook on the beach.
      Be great to meet when we are in Scotland, enjoy your camping, I’m very jealous. Keep safe yourself.

      @@andrewsmith5451 I had a dinghy background too.. GP14s and Hornets ..my father raced them. Then tried kayaking. I much prefer the smaller boats and just creeping along the coasts.. Drop a note on a video when you are coming up and if Im around will tie up for a wee outing..enjoy the SIBs..I know some guys who sold their big ribs once they caught the SIB wild camping bug :-D

    Hi Donny. Great video, as always. My other half & I are coming to the West Coast in August with our new FRIB 360 / 9.8 Tohatsu. Where is the best location, in your opinion, for a novice to start.

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi eddzoid..thats a hard question to for me to answer as I don’t know if you intend using campsite or hotels..or even other interests you may want to do in a certain area. Its easier to advise to keep well away from places … like the “Sound of Jura” due to strong tidal flows etc. Perhaps choose a base in a sheltered area with sea lochs is a good idea for a beginner. Some campsites like Resipole on Loch Sunart have slipways or Arisaig area have lovely sandy beaches etc. Check out some of the videos of areas you fancy then once you have some ideas ..feel free to ask specific details. Example .. what are the tides or hazards to be aware of in such and such an area. Hope that helps some..

      @@donnywilcox we will be staying in our touring caravan. Hoping to be based in one or 2 sites & drive to slipways. Non tide dependant slipways preferable. Not experienced enough yet. to travel from the mainland to the Isles. Sea lochs sound good. Will have fishing gear on board. Cheers

      @@eddzoid Hi again eddzoid ..google Resipole campsite ..its on Loch Sunart. Great fishing and lovely site. Google Caolas na con campsite ..its on Loch Leven.. a shelter sealoch with good fishing too. Both have access to the sea and are safe areas. Perhaps wait before booking to see whats going to happen because of this virus. I have a feeling campsies and such wont be as busy this year..but you never can tell. Keep safe whatever you do
