My Amazon review: First of all....I'm an older gent who knows enough about this stuff to utilize digital life and love it. This SSD is fast and small. I thought the price was great for 4TB. The downside is twofold thus far.... 1.) This drive disconnects and reconnects a few times an hour all on its' own. It doesn't matter if it is sitting or being used. It doesn't feel hot and is not the cable. 2.) Getting some kind of encryption on this to protect the data is a nightmare. I've downloaded the Storage Executive software and while it is comprehensive in its' scope, and mentions encryption, there is no way to simply password protect this drive. Crucial sends me to Bitlocker but it doesn't handshake and I'm tired of reading endless MS forums to sort this out. Do I need "Bitlocker to Go"? Do I need to have "MS10 Pro edition" to simply get this damned thing encrypted? It's maddening that Crucial simply can't make this easy. I have used WD drives for years and they are bulletproof plug and play in this regard. I'm going back as I am quickly losing faith in this drive. 3.) I wrote tech support, let's see what happens tomorrow if they will redeem themselves. I think if I was 30 years old and could navigate all the jargon with drives etc. I might stand a chance but why would anyone go through this nonsense? 10-10-2024......Still waiting for the encryption software I was promised for this drive. On top of that the drive is now disconnecting and reconnecting by itself while remaining docked to my computer. I regret buying this SSD and will stick with Samsung or WD next time. Crucial needs to do what they say they will, it's not worth saving a few bucks and spend so much time screwing with this.
@@adamtalkstech yes I did and even though it was bought brand new on eBay, Crucial said the vendor was not an authorised seller so the warranty would not be honoured. I explained it was a brand new item and worked fine for 2 weeks.
Hi Adam! Can you do a review on the Seagate SSD and maybe a comparison between these and the T7 Shield? Been really curious how good it us but can't seem to find any good reviews on it. Would appreciate it a lot!
There are some posts on Reddit about problems, mostly with x10, but also with x9. Probably nothing really bad (as SanDisk for example) but it may change my choice for external ssd in favor of T7
Hello, I notice you didn’t touch upon thermal performance? Which one heats up more than the other during huge file transfers or while doing extended video editing?
Mac owner here and I own 3 Samsung T5 500gb drives, will need to catch a Crucial X9 Pro 4gb when it goes on sale. My macbook pro14 m1 only has 512gb storage, want to start editing videos and want to work directly off the drive; got a synology nas for long term storage.
Samsung T5 Evo 500mb/s is $199 now and water resiatant Crucial X9 Pro for Mac 1000mb/s is $289 with no discount and both for 4tb, get the samsung now or wait for Crucial?
Crucial drives a TRASH, they just don't have the sustained throughput. They'll start transferring really high, like 900+ MB/Sec, but then they quickly CRATER to 32MB/sec. Useless. I guess they're fine if you're just moving a few files around, but for backing up large amounts of data, they're TERRIBLE. Don't even THINK about using them to record high performance video from a camera like a black magic or Lumix S5iiX, they WILL fail on you mid take. Take this with a grain of salt, but don't say I didn't warn you. I'd stick with Samsung all the way.
I haven’t had that issue with the crucial x9 pro. I saw that on the x8 though. I have used the x9 pro no issues writing to ssd. I’ll try again soon I’m mostly using pro blades these days
This may be the case aside from the x8 for the regular X9 but NOT the X9 pro. From what I read somewhere is the X9 Pro uses TLC nand whereas the regular X9 uses QLC nand paired with a SLC cache. The cache makes it so the first 1/4 of the drive is relatively the fast posted speed but afterwards slows down for the rest of the drives capacity.

Have you found a way to fix the problem when the ssd card sometimes stops and then continues running? I have the same problem as you. Please help me.
My Crucial X9 Pro stopped working after 2 weeks. My Samsung T7 still working fine.
Weird. Did you contact crucial?

Which model? I have historically shied from seagate because their SSDs aren’t as readily available on Amazon.
While not for this product, but some people on crucial’s website have given it negative reviews claiming that it fails after several months.
I had the x8 and didn’t like it. This one has been solid for me.
@@adamtalkstech I had X8, there is a faulty problem about recognise usb-c ports. Just returned and they gonna send the X9.

I am using X8 every day on my macbook and had no issue yet.

Thanks for this video 👍🏽
Important to mention the encryption software where I think Samsung has the upper hand.
I couldn’t get their software to work.

Great point, I stayed away from the X9 because of the QLC. I think I have a video about this.
