The neighbor's son did not push his sister on purpose, he accidentally did because he was mad because his sister kept winning in the game they were playing.
I just thought of 2 possible theories for the original Hello Neighbor game. 1: This is probably the easiest thing to guess, but what if the neighbor put Aaron in the basement? That's what you see at the begining. 2: What if you play as Aaron and are looking for forgiveness? What if you are checking on dad (the Neighbor) to make sure he's handling things well and he kidnapped someone to replace Mya? What if you (Aaron) were taken away/left because you killed Mya, so dad looked for a "replacement?" You break in so you can rescue the child. You feel obligated to because you caused this. Dad hates you for killing Mya and possibly, and irrationally, blames you for mom's death too. That's why he's always so angry when chasing you. That's why he doesn't want you anywhere near the basement where "new Mya" is. He also wants to make sure you pay for what you did. You've been disowned, and rightfully so. Dad is broken from losing 2, and essentially 3, of his family within the timespan of a few days, if that. Edit: I didn't know you played as Nicky Roth in the original, but that could still be Aaron. Think about it, would you really keep your name the same? Would you really want to be known as the man who killed his sister? That would also explain why the house has very few aditions here, but is massive in the main game.

I thought the game was about the son trying to escape his past and his mistakes which is why he came back years later to confront them which was the reason for tje shadow following him as an adult. However I heard there is a book out now. I believe they were made after the game but I read the description of thw book and it says nicky roth and are in Patterson (I think thats his name) were friends and nicky is truing to fins out what happened to him. This trailer is the best animated scene I have ever seen that is related to Hello Neighbor. It's sad how it looks like they always go backwards and cancel things, such as: Alpha 2: There actually is a full sized basement in Alpha 2, but the game ends before you can go there. Alpha 4 or one of the betas: There is a well animated cutscene in the files that was supposed to be at the end that showed quite a lot of lore, but they cancelled it. HN Hide and Seek: It looked like they were planning to have the wife's face shown in the game, but cancelled it, because why otherwise would it be seen in the trailer?
The wife got hurt in the car crash so the neighbor carried his wife into the hospital but his wife died and the neighbor was depressed and mya died too so neighbor barriering mya
