Thank you so much for your very informative video. I made a bowl cozy following you step-by-step. I messed up in joining the closing stitch a little bit but it will still serve its purpose. Thank you so much for giving this disabled veteran something creative to do to pass my time. I'll look up your Facebook page and leave a picture of my creation. LOL, I'm sure my next cozy will be even better. Thank you so very much. Ooh Rah!!!
I've seen these bowl cozies for years. They always looked really simple to make. I. never bought a pattern for making them. I'm usually sewing all the time, making tops and dresses for the granddaughters. I just like making clothing more! I'm glad that I found your you-tube! You make this look super easy, so I will be making several of these for the family. Thanks so very much!♡♡♡ Now, I'm super excited, and I'm going to go check out all of your other videos!!! ♡
Well I hope you find this a nice change when you need a break from clothes! (Lucky granddaughters!) We use them daily and they make great gifts that people actually use!
Thank you. You've given lots of great information here. I appreciate this. Other ppl have tutorials and make it seem too hard. Now I can look forward to making these. PLUS, ... no loud music. In fact, your shared knowledge is music to my ears.
You're very welcome! I try to keep music to a minimum and if I include it I make it pretty quiet - glad to know others feel the same way! Happy sewing 🧵
@@Marie-st3pi I use a washable glue on quilts so it would wash out - assume it would on this too but definitely don't do anything that makes you uncomfortable!
It really depends on the size (width and height) of the bowl - I don’t have an exact formula. For a bigger bowl you could try using 12” squares instead of 10” and the same dart size. That will make a bit of a difference
Yes! I throw mine in the washer & dryer regularly. Be sure to pre-wash your fabric so they don't shrink weird the first time you have spaghetti sauce on them and want to wash them. 😉
On another person's video or blog, they said that the ones they give away for gifts after they have assembled it, they put more quilting type stitching all over on the cozy. That way the recipient of the gift does not have to be cautious, such as cold water, gentle cycle, etc. 🎊
Unless the thread says "100% cotton" I wouldn't use it. Many all purpose threads have some polyester in them that could melt or at worst, catch fire, in the microwave. That's why anything going in the microwave should have all materials as 100% cotton.
Is it just me or is it normal that when you turn the fabric from the inside out that it looks a little wonky but then as you work it with your fingers and shape it out it begins to look a bit more evened out?
Lynda, don’t buy a tool, save yourself the money. Save a chop stick next time you go out to eat Chinese or Japanese food, I use a chop stick and it works great!
I bought a queen size Pellon All Natural Cotton Batting and cut it into pieces so I always have them handy (I give these as gifts a lot). It will always be a bit thick to topstitch (go slow!) but that's what makes them work so well.
I also bought the wrap & zap. I thought it was pretty thick as well. I did find some other people only used one layer of the wrap and zap. I may try that on one for myself, but the package that is 45 x 36 will only allow you to make about six of the cozies. Unless you're buying it by the bolt or roll, not the little bag. If you look at the package that product was designed to make a single layer envelope type pouch to put a baked potato in for microwaving. The bowl cozies came along afterward, and I think they are wonderful!
Another bowl cozy crafter said; if you choose to use regular 100% cotton batting make certain that it does NOT contain scrim. Apparently the scrim has a polyester component to it.
Also, I commented in another reply, that a person who makes these for gifts actually does quilt the entire bowl after it is sewn together. That definitely makes it a bit more stable, as well as less risk of damage when people just throw it in the wash with their regular clothing.😉
I thought the paper pattern instructions looked difficult, but after watching the video it is very easy to understand!
I'm glad the video worked for you - sometimes I do both because some like video and others like lots of photos to have next to them. :) Have fun!

Can’t wait to make a few of these for gift giving! Thank you for sharing! Great video!
They make great gifts that people love! Happy holidays & happy sewing!
OOOHHHH this will be perfect for Christmas presents (I cannot believe I am thinking about Christmas already!!). Thank you!!!
Sewing for Christmas can be a year round sport imo 😂🎅🏼
Very nice and look easy ...will give them a try....thanks for the tutorial....Mary (Australia)
They are and they make great gifts too! Just go slow when topstitching, especially on the thick corners Have fun!
Great video! I watched several others! Yours is the best!
Aw... thank you! Have fun making these!
I used basting glue on the opening. Worked great! Great easy to follow video. Thank you!!
Wonderful idea - I glue baste binding on quilts but hadn’t thought of it for this!
Personally, I'm not too sure that I would want to put any sort of glue into my microwave! 🤔

Thank you so much for sharing your video and for righting the directions out. You have been the best at explaining details. Thank you
You are very welcome - have fun!
Thank you so much for this video! It was very easy to follow!
You’re so welcome! Enjoy 🥰
Great instructions, thanks!
you are very welcome!
@@ArtistTaraReed made two yesterday, easy peasy! Thanks again : )
Great clarity finally understood it
Have fun with them!
When you refer to pivoting at dart, to me that means turn. I’m confused. Tks and great video.
Yes - it’s a turn but keeping your needle down, so I say pivot. Sorry for the confusion - have fun!
Hi are you using a Bernina Sewing Machine? Great instructions .
Thank you and no - I have a Janome.
Is there a formula for working out the fabric square to fit the bowl?
I don't have a specific formula but use the size in video for smaller bowls and add about 2 inches to the square for larger bowls.
How do you measure different size bowls?
It really depends on the size (width and height) of the bowl - I don’t have an exact formula. For a bigger bowl you could try using 12” squares instead of 10” and the same dart size. That will make a bit of a difference
what brand of cotton batting do you use.
I've used Pellon and Gypsy Quilter brand - as long as it's 100% cotton you will be good to go!
Can these be machine washed?
Yes! I throw mine in the washer & dryer regularly. Be sure to pre-wash your fabric so they don't shrink weird the first time you have spaghetti sauce on them and want to wash them. 😉

@@Marie-st3pi So many ways to go for sure! Thanks for the suggestion 🥰

@Tara Reed - Sewing and Crafting Tutorials thank you!!

Not just you - the topstitching both closes the opening and makes it look good. 👍🏻
No music please, would rather hear the sewing machine 😃
It sounds awful when sped up 🤷🏻♀️
Nothing then 😄
Do u sell the turning tool
I don’t but you can find it on Amazon here #ad amzn.to/3gleYSt

Microwave safe batting, wrap n zap!
A great brand 👍🏻
vWhat brand of battig did you use, I used Wrap n Zap batting and it was really thick. And does not stand up very well/

Easier to mark all 4 darts then sew all 4
Thanks for your comment 🥰
