The clogged portion made of plastic is the DEF heater for the air pressure inlet into the metering unit. There are actually 3 or 4 possible clog points between the DEF metering unit, DEF pump module, and inside the SCR diffuser tube inside the 1-box. They got rid of this hokey Air pressure over DEF system in 2015 models. Now all you have to worry about is the DEF pump, filter, and electronic metering unit. I've never had an issue with DEF clogging in any of the lines or inside the new electronic metering unit. We typically see more issues out of excessive DEF buildup inside the 1-box because of improper temperature in the DOC and DPFs from goobers who don't get their DPF dosing injector cleaned out every 100,000 miles.
i wish people would look atit from our engineering side. the system is absolute genius. if you do an amission test on these truck you have zero polutant exhaust and thats the point. yes things fail i get its down time and loss revenue for drivers. we get that and really try to make improvements along the way some things are just unavoidable.
Why couldn't a person disconnect DEF tank to pump/filter line and run a line to bucket of hot/warm water. Then disconnect dosor at DPF/SCR 1box. Run the quantity test with Detroit software? Cleaning entire system. The money saved on this procedure alone would pay for the software and nexiq hardware. Not counting others throughout the year. Just wondering if this is a viable solution if performed 1-2 per year.
By the way you can get ecm tuner instead of the one he has. He has 1899$ one its nicer. Ecm tuner is 999$ has no screen you plug in and can clear codes and set tunes for fuel milage still just no fancy screens.
You did a very good job and that’s what the problem I have and I’m looking for to fix it and also you mentioned it’s a deal up but not a dealer is the Steeler you’re actually right
I have 2013 cascadia dd15. Just had egr actuator replace and when def tank is full.. DEF bar is down one bar every 180miles. Any idea what could be causing that?
Great vid! Got solid amber light on. 1st time it was my def filter, after two month's, it lit back on. Going to check that part next. I really like your bully dog unit, if you don't mind me asking, witch unit is it? And did you have to get a 9 pin to a obd2 pig tail?
Great video sir! Two quick questions about the bully dog. Do you really see improvement with your fuel mileage? If my truck went into a derate would I be able to clear the code so that I could make it back home or into a shop? Thanks for your help.
Provost Motorsports And the same one you are working on it I couldn’t find it I looked all around DEF tank DEF a DPF filters I couldn’t see nothing like this for freightliner Cascadia 2016 thank you
Those two pieces of aluminum are just bushing spacers for the bolts. If you use a propane torch on the aluminum body of the metering unit, you can get the metal to expand enough to knock out the aluminum bushings.
@@provostmotorsportstrucking2298 what about the eec61 code in the dd15? No derate. The maintenance and check engine light came on, but the check engine light went off immediately. I drove another 200 miles before I had to shut down.
Part of the problem with the air over DEF system they got rid of, the ammonium nitrate likes leaving ammonium nitrate salt crystals in all those small orifices where they use to get pressure out of the system.
Or you can just do it the right way and jump into detroit diagnostics and find all the issues by running and following the steps they have layed out and not have to guess. Brilliant.

Joseph Arata im having an issue with the DEF gauge, It is not working....what should I replace?
Thanks in Advance
I deleted my 2016 Cascadia, DD15, and have not had ANY issues with my truck since. None. Period.
I feel ya but you can't go to California. Plus If your transmission go out freightliner dealership won't work on it.
"STUPIDEST SYSTEM EVER", agreed.
Thank you for the info and saving me money
Super helpful video saved me the hassle of having to find where my problem was! And back on the road
Also clean out the air line (truck supply) to the def pump. It fills up with oil....and there is a little filter in there that needs cleaning.

2 filters?
Nox?
Clog?
Crystallized Def?
Def Orfice tube?
It seems like when you have it apart you would purge the system to blow out any chunks that may be in the line.
What are some symptoms if this is bad?

Thank you from mechanic to mechanic
Nice job Provost!
Thanks!
Great vid! I just want to know, what happen with the DEF system when that valve is really dirty? Thanks 🙏🏽
Yuh I
You did a very good job and that’s what the problem I have and I’m looking for to fix it and also you mentioned it’s a deal up but not a dealer is the Steeler you’re actually right
You removed the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Metering Unit Diffuser Heater
That is the metering unit.
Will this be the same for 2018 freightliner DD 15 engine?
No
I want the Bully dog reader
I don't think my 2016 has that def meter. Maybe just an injector.
What's the name off that fuel monitor/code reader
👍👍
Hey! Thank you so much for this information brother man! What year truck is this
Awesome, just awesome!
You have to remove the air fitting to remove the filter
Aftertreatment SCR Operator Inducement
Data Valid But Above Normal Operating

If your truck is consuming more DEF then usual it could mean that your NOX sensor is reading too high.
Thanks brother
Any time
Where did you buy that code reader from at the end of the video and how it costed
Much
good video. thanks.
You bet

Great Video Brother.
The bully you've got is like around $1900 , kinda pricey
helpful video.
where from you buy that device which shows you fuel milage and how you hook up to truck.
Google bully dog Turner
Great video sir! Two quick questions about the bully dog. Do you really see improvement with your fuel mileage? If my truck went into a derate would I be able to clear the code so that I could make it back home or into a shop? Thanks for your help.
You would be able to clear if you plug it into computer. Look at user guides for em on their site.
Awesome people, thank you sir.
Also clean out the air line (truck supply) to the def pump. It fills up with oil....and there is a little filter in there that needs cleaning.
Where are you located? And can I come get mine repaired
Any idea what year that Cascadia was?
2012
Do u have to use hot water or Will Carb cleaner work too??
NO !!!!!
Boiling water only
Does 1516 and up half Metering or no? Thank you
Yes
Provost Motorsports And the same one you are working on it I couldn’t find it I looked all around DEF tank DEF a DPF filters I couldn’t see nothing like this for freightliner Cascadia 2016 thank you
How did you get THAT 3RD SCREW out, when separating two parts??
Please, HELP

Parts number rebuilding kit????
i wish i can find a rebuild kit for this. i spent hours searching on the net
I changed the Metering unit your cleaning. Didn't fix shit. Truck still deteriorating. POS DEF system. Delete is the alternative.
What is the code?
I just do the same shit
Clean it and put it back and I save a $1000.00 from the Stealers!!
Agreed "Stupidest system ever"
I was clean the DPF filters but my truck every 300 miles run 🏃 and again need to regn
😰😰😰
Anybody help me the solution
Thanks 🙏
That is a sign of bigger problems.... how many miles on the truck?
@@provostmotorsportstrucking2298 what about the eec61 code in the dd15? No derate. The maintenance and check engine light came on, but the check engine light went off immediately. I drove another 200 miles before I had to shut down.
Freightliner is owned by Daimler a German Company!
Hey, where are you located, I have a problem with Scr
Abukar Omar what happen? Any updates?
Boiling water removes the crystals instantly

Some guys I know soak the filters in mr. Clean much cheaper than going to the dealer
Is the DEF made of cow piss??? 🤔 many truckers say to not touch it and get it on your gloves.
Bully dog is not legal in California btw. So hide it lol
No it isn't
You missed 2 other filters
the easy filters are a given
diesel exhaust fluid
This just happened to me today
