Here in michigan where i am . U can disappear in some of the river bottoms . U step on some off that muck bottom, and u can't get out. I ended up to waste and its like quick sand luckily my friend was with me at the time .

Same here in Southern Wisconsin, walk through a swamp and a lot of times it is floating cattails but seems like solid ground suddenly you'll find a soft spot and if you fall all the way through and go under the floating mat you need to come straight back up or else you're done for. If you're lucky you can hold your bow or gun horizontally and use it to stop yourself from going completely under.
I've never went completely under and luckily I've always had someone with as well if even putting one leg through, that crap can suction right around your leg and need the strength or 2 to pull just one leg out as your other leg is not much help when your knee is tight up against your chest.

Watching your hunts is almost better than hunting. Thank you for filming your hunts Dan, we really appreciate and enjoy watching them.

can you include some of your process of setting up your stand before your hunts. Would like to see how fast or how much noise you make. Just try. Thanks Dan.

The ground stool might be a game changer for me, thanks Dan! I’ve set up probably 7-8 times on the ground this year, and I always fidget too much, I make way less movement in the stand.

Thanks Dan, I’ve been hunting hard. Sometimes I need a reminder to take my foot off the gas and think a bit more. There is a method to the madness!

Skunks really like to dig for bees, and they're very proficient at it. They can make pretty big holes.
Badgers are also really good diggers but I don't know if they go after bees or not? Probably

The Beast is the ABCs of hunting, back to the basics,no tinks, no scent control except thermals/wind, no ozonics...the thrill of the adventure.👍

Yes and no. Remember, Dan isn't hunting deer..... he's hunting mature bucks. Some of the skills are transferrable, but if your goal is filling the freezer just be aware.

Family of raccoons will make short work of it as well. So one of those, if it was a bear that ground would be way more tore up than that, there would be claw marks gouged in the ground as well.

So, when a Blue jay starts chirping, I should think a deer is around? I have heard someone say that on The Hunting Public, but have never seen/experienced it for myself. Also have never heard anyone ever say anything about it. Why do they chirp at deer?

Squirrels fussing alerted me yesterday to deer movement. Soon after 2 small bucks came in. Second one came into my shooting lane from the ground at 43 yards. Missed with first shot. Got him with the second. Just finished processing him. Always listen for any disturbance in the woods.
