Samyang 135 performed unexpectedly well, much exceeded my expectations. I am waiting for someone like Christopher to post a standardized test as a more strict optical comparison.

Nice compression at that focal length and the background blur looks outstanding to my eye.

Sony's lens coating helps to see the difference between the two lens regarding highlight handling. Af is a little hunting, but ca, ahrpness and lens ghosting in direct sunlight semms to be better with Samyang. For this price this is an excellent value. I'd buy one of it.

Unfortunately, my newly bought lens had a battery drain problem on the A7RIII with the power switched off. A 100% battery will be fully drained in 5 days when powered off without using the camera. My lens is with the AD, Samyang is notified, hoping for a resolution soon!

@@artmaltman No problem. I just ordered mine today. With a 100$ off, that bargain of a lens literally becomes a steal. Now one thing to keep in mind, you need to update the firmware to 2.0 when you get the lens, otherwise you will experience battery drain of your camera, even when it's turned off. It's a weird bug, but Samyang acknowledged it and corrected it with the firmware. With the lens being out of stock for a while, it's possible it will ship with firmware 2.0, since Samyang is not able to keep up with demand. If you get firmware 1.0, you'll need to buy the Samyang dock station to update the lens. I think you can see the lens firmware number somewhere in the camera settings. Lastly, if you find the lens isn't as sharp as the TH-cam reviews let it, you may have gotten a bad unit. Samyang has more quality control issues than other brands. But that risk the price to pay for a lens less than half the price of the Sony. If you buy from B&H though, they will the cost for shipping it back if you contact them and let them know the lens is problematic.
Oh and I'd have no problem buying the dock and returning it after updating the lens, if it ships with firmware 1.0. One more thing, because I bought my credit card, I get 3 years of warranty instead of 1 year, so that's a nice bonus.

The samyang cost like just under 1000$ but the GM is around (or close to) 2000$... So double the price does not = double the quality. Samyangs 135mm AF lens is a beast! I own it and so far it has done everything i been expecting from it. I should point ut im a photographer first, video work is something i care less about.

@@MegaUltraSuperDuable Just saw the other reviews, seems like sharpness is not the issue (not sure why the reviewer in the full review says it is sharper than the GM) but autofocus is, especially in videos and bursts.

Sony alpha blog actually claimed Samyang 135 was sharper, at least their copy was. "The Samyang 135mm F1.8 AF (950 euros) is an excellent lens at a very reasonable price. Its performance is a surprise as it does a tiny bit better than the Sony FE 135mm F1.8 GM (1900 euros) in term of sharpness and contrast and much better for flare resistance & level of CA".
