The whole point of this yoyo is to be a fun yoyo... It's not supposed to play like a competition yoyo It's for fun and they say that directly in the description... Please understand when you make a review focus on the point of why the yoyo was made not what you think it should be...
You are basically saying everything is bad but the shape... It sounds like you are comparing it to a competition yoyo which is not at all what it is designed to be... Thats why it doesn't meet your standards of a competition yoyo because its not at all...
I bought a one drop/ clyw summit a couple years ago and it also was very floaty. I like a heavy feel so it has made me hesitate to buy any more from either companies. Is that a normal feel for these brands... Anyone.
The CLYW Puffin and the Snow Lzzard both feal heavier. The Snow Lizzard specially feels weighty th-cam.com/video/qOz_ngLPtX0/w-d-xo.html . So not all CLYW yoyos are floaty. It really depends on the yoyo design per model. I have videos on various CLYW yoyos, just do a search on my channel for CLYW and you will see all of them. I hope this helps.
It really depends on what you like. When I started, I used Kitty Fat then moved on to String Lab Venom, then String Lab Ammo and finally now using Buddha XL. So even when I was a beginner I already used fat strings. What's good about Buddha XL is for about $14 and some change, you get 100 strings. So if comes out to about 14 -15 cents a string.
Small yoyos need to be heavier or they won't play good. I knew I wouldn't like it when I saw it was so light and small. I don't know what they were thinking. When you decrease the diameter you decrease the rim mass speed thus you must increase the rim weight to compensate for the reduction in momentum. It is not even the same weight as the original chief. It's like they were lazy and just used the scale button in their software. A retired mechanical engineer should know better. I am sure it plays fine but I would have made it heavier. Also, that dab bind, never again.
I don't think it matters if a yoyo is designed for competition or not. I just think it would have been better if they just beefed up the rims a little bit. It would have made it a more playable scaled down chief. Though I am sure there are lots of throwers out there that could win competitions with this, lol.
That salmon fade colourway is just eye catching.. love that colour.
