This movie was a live-action Legend of Zelda before we even got the LoZ on the NES. Purely coincidental how similar the overall story and characters are, I think, but remarkable as well.
"for that time" takes away the strength of that statement. Also since most movies in the 80s and 90s are far better than current, I'm not sure why "for that time" is needed.
Its hard to believe both tom cruise and tim curry both felt embarrassed by their performances afterwards yet i feel the movie captured a special Moment in movie making that captivated us all...a cult classic most definitely

@@kitraestudio I see your point because at the time Jerry Goldsmith did the original soundtrack and this was before the modern technology we have now so I agree that the Tangerine Dream version is better not to say that Jerry's was bad either.
@@timothyrenar5498 Golsmith's score on the original cut of the film was incredible. There was no reason to replace it. That was just studio interference, but Tangerine Dream did a great job making their music fit the American cut of the film like a glove. Both scores are masterpieces, but as far as the two cuts of the film, I think the longer original cut is better.
@@kitraestudio Well like I mentioned above with the technology we have now it's easy for for composers to download the entire score including extras that weren't used in the movie because we are in the digital world now instead of the analog back in the 80's and prior but I'm sure if the technology we have now was around back then I'm sure either Jerry Goldsmith or Tangerine Dream wouldn't of had any problems downloading the entire score at that time.
Dude, had the cassette and cd forever ago, I liked the words mixed in too. Also liked Anderson’s voice, it has an elf like, otherworldly quality to it. I like the instrumental versions too, but prefer my old soundtracks. Amazing movie that still holds up today, it’s timeless.

To this day, I still use one of her sayings, "Maybe innocent maybe sweet.... not as half is rotten meat. Yes, Blix was a girl in makeup. Alice Playten is her name.
If by "anyone" you mean people younger than 20 years old then sure. But everyone who grew up in the 80's or 90's already knew "dungeon synth"is nothing new. We've watched films like this one, or have played might and magic or any of the fantasy games like the Might and Magic series the Legend of Kyrandia series, The Legacy of Kain series, etc. It's just an age gap thing. Funny how everything 80's became popular again.

Even worse is Ridley scott the director did a Director's Cut that removed all the feeling from the movie! Used orchestra music and no closing song that really tied the whole movie together. I bought a 2 disc SET from Amazon. "theatrical" and "Director's Cut" I have no reason to EVER watch the Director's cut again. He ruined it by changing ALL the music.

This is awesome! Some great images and pictures throughout the slideshow I haven't seen before as well. An amazing film with a great and atmospheric soundtrack all the way through, but easily identifiable to which scenes there from. And the end credits song by Bryan Ferry and David Gilmour is just icing on the cake!
I only included the TD music they composed here, but I love that Gilmour/Ferry song. There is a pop version of the Unicorn Theme TD recorded with a female vocalist that was awful, so I am glad they did not use that for the credits. However, I would have rather TD composed some proper end credits music in the same style as the rest of the movie.
This mix is so meticulously sourced, mixed, and edited. You hit all the sounds I want to hear without the dialogue! As a long-time fan of everything this movie and the Tangerine Dream score, THANK YOU. 🙏🏼

Amazing work! One of the tracks I felt was missing from the original soundtrack was the track used in the scene with Meg Mucklebones. Hearing it in full is a special treat as well as the other tracks included here.

Saw it with my mom the month it came out at the Tamalpais theater in San Anselmo, CA. I remember it like it was last year. She was always taking me to whatever new flick (even if she fell asleep after working all day). I miss her, miss those amazing cinematic experiences we shared.
Dammit I don’t know if I have this version or not. I watched the movie as a kid and loved it, and recently put my pirate hat on to acquire another copy that I haven’t actually watched yet. Now I’m going to be stressing over which version I have 😅
I have a mix of that music, but the quality was not good enough to include here. All the surround channels for that section and the ring dive/frozen lake section are plastered with bird chirps and loud, jarring sound effects. Too much to digitally or manually remove and still keep the music intact. I will attempt it again at some point, but with the audio tools I have now, it's just not clean enough.

Nice work. I used to be such a TD fan boy, they could do no wrong. At one time, I had nearly everything they ever released commercially. I think I topped out at 127. Legend was magnificent...the music, not so much the film. Seeing Doctor Frank N. Furter as The Lord of Darkness was a treat. Tim Curry brought such intensity to his role. Overdubbing Jon Anderson for the soundtrack delivered an interesting song, but I understand why you didn't include it here...and I'm a big vintage YES fan, as well.
Amazing. I just read Ridley Scott hired Tangerine Dream to score this film because Jerry Goldsmith's score wouldn't resonate with the younger audience AND only had THREE weeks to complete....WOW!
It was more pressure from Universal than something Ridley wanted to do. Specifically president Sid Sheinberg, who thought American kids would not like it. I think the studio thought TD would do a rock and roll soundtrack, like they had just done for the Tom Cruise film Risky Business. Thankfully TD did not do that and we have this fantastic score. Scott has said the score took three weeks to do, but Edgar Froese of TD said it actually took them two months.
I find this soundtrack very interesting, because it has lots of same sort of ques what yhou heard on William Friedkin's Sorcerer. Curious that was this just the style of Tangerine Dream still during this time, or did Ridley Scott request to make soundtrack that kinda had similar kind of vibes to Sorcerer's soundtrack.
Man, as much as I already liked the TD score in the film, now I see it got short shrift. There's so much more amazing stuff here! Both versions of the film and soundtracks have their points, but my dream version is the director's cut movie with this soundtrack.
About 83 minutes of TD music was used in the film, and almost all of that is here. The extra, non-film soundtrack music here is mostly the reworked versions of the same music cues from the official soundtrack, and a couple of extended sections from the 1986 live concert performances.

This movie WAS fantasy to me. And it was not replaced in my heart until Lord of the Rings.
But it'll always be special.

Amazing. I just read Ridley Scott hired Tangerine Dream to score this film because Jerry Goldsmith's score wouldn't resonate with the younger audience AND only had THREE weeks to complete....WOW!
It was more pressure from Universal than something Ridley wanted to do. Specifically president Sid Sheinberg, who thought American kids would not like it. I think the studio thought TD would do a rock and roll soundtrack, like they had just done for the Tom Cruise film Risky Business. Thankfully TD did not do that and we have this fantastic score. Scott has said the score took three weeks to do, but Edgar Froese of TD said it actually took them two months.

I find this soundtrack very interesting, because it has lots of same sort of ques what yhou heard on William Friedkin's Sorcerer. Curious that was this just the style of Tangerine Dream still during this time, or did Ridley Scott request to make soundtrack that kinda had similar kind of vibes to Sorcerer's soundtrack.
Man, as much as I already liked the TD score in the film, now I see it got short shrift. There's so much more amazing stuff here!
Both versions of the film and soundtracks have their points, but my dream version is the director's cut movie with this soundtrack.
About 83 minutes of TD music was used in the film, and almost all of that is here. The extra, non-film soundtrack music here is mostly the reworked versions of the same music cues from the official soundtrack, and a couple of extended sections from the 1986 live concert performances.
