- Male sterility is a condition in which a plant is unable to produce functional pollen. This can be a valuable tool in plant breeding, as it allows for the production of hybrid seed. Hybrid seed is often superior to inbred seed, as it exhibits heterosis, or hybrid vigor.
In this video, we will discuss the different types of male sterility, how they are used in plant breeding, and the benefits of using hybrid seed. We will also discuss some of the challenges associated with male sterility, such as the need for restorer genes.
