Today it is on the border between Armenia and Turkey and the conflict between the two countries are still ongoing
Today it is in Turkey and a big open air museum. We explored this UNESCO point in Turkey and dive deep into the history of this place in this video.

Ani cathedral is considered to be the oldest form of gothic architecture , and the tallest structure of the city was actually Gagikashen church of 50 m high

On my father's side, this is my homeland. I have studied a lot about the history of Armenia, especially Western Armenia. A thousand years ago, the city of Ani was one of the largest in Europe, and about 200 thousand people lived there.

Wow, so many negative comments from Armenians to Turks and vice versa. This negativity is toxic. To call Kars an Armenian city is going back in ancient history. The Turks came and conquered the lands. The British did far worse. The Romans and Byzantiums too. The Armenians themselves conquered these lands and had wars at some point. The point here is that there will always be winners and losers in war. Best to get over it and live your life

1071 they conquered it, armenia and georgia reconquered it! Persians took it and in 1517 it got conquered by the Ottomans, then got Armenian again for 4 years and then again Turkish, so roughly 500 years of Tutkish controll over it!
While Armenians had it for 4000 years!

Reading the Armenian comments are just ridiculous. Let's say Kars and Ani go back to Armenia. Who wants to bet that little to no Armenian from diaspora will immigrate back to Armenia? The diaspora Armenians themselves always say that they have love and spiritual connection with Armenia but they prefer to live in their current host country. There's nothing wrong with living in a host country, but the audacity that the diaspora has to say that they love Armenia while living in another country is just absurd and really sad to say. There are more Armenians living outside of Armenia than in Armenia itself. No other country has such a sad statistic like Armenia does.
The sadder part is that most Armenians living in Armenia live in Yerevan while the rest of the Armenians live outside of Yerevan. Armenia is an extremely sparsely populated country. So let's say hypothetically speaking that "Western Armenia" ever comes back, it's not like Armenians are even going to live in that land. The Armenian mindset is extremely irrational to say the least.
The same applies to many other nations! Armenians will immigrate back uf the right time has come

The Seljuks gave the city to the Kurdish Shahdadids and eventually the Georgian kingdom under their Armenian generals took the city. However, most of the city's Armenian inhabitants had already migrated to Crimea before and then to Nor Nakhichevan (Rostov), Russia when Catherine the Great invaded Crimea.

Nice video. If not for the insane war and conflict, Muslims and Christians could very co-exist. Sad of the drifting apart and relationship of these two faiths see insane killings. I love the Armenia nice peaceful people. Only innocent citizens suffer in conflict, not the political leaders.
So sad that Armenian lands have brutally been taken away, so has their culture been stolen. If turkey wants peace, then they need to be responsible for the genocide. Many have perished on these lands at the hands of the turks. Peace can only be if the truth is there to discuss. Forcing friendship by threatening war is not the way to do it.

First of all it was 929 years ago(1071),second of all you lost to Armenia 1920 and only got saved by Soviet Union and you dont have chance since Iran is there and Russia have treaty that when armenian territory get attacked they will protect armenia and the Türks only could incooperate the city in their empire 1507, cause after 1071 armenia reconquered it and it stayed another 450 years armenian!
