  • Day after my surgery. I slept most of the day. Fair amount of pain. Some nausea. Hence the lots of sleeping. I still look like hell...

day 2 after surgery for me, I tried eating cream of wheat with milk....Biggest mistake ever! I immediately began having really bad abdominal pain, thought I was going to have a bowel movement, ended up puking all of the cream of wheat. So if any new viewers see this, avoid dairy after surgery, it may upset your stomach.

Today is my day 2. The incision over my bellybutton is the largest and most painful. My surgeon told me that my gallbladder was quite large and he had a difficult time getting it out. I think that's why I'm in so much pain.
No appetite. Hope to eat a little plain white rice later and finally get some sleep.

mlvlatina I've had 4 previous surgeries through my belly button and that is what I'm dreading the most. There is something tender about your bellybutton apparently because it's always been the worst part of my surgeries. I'm having my surgery Friday (Friday the 13th to be exact lol).

No. You can get up and walk around. The first 1-3 days sitting up is sore, you may want to have someone on standby. I would frequently roll from the couch to the floor in a kneeling position and then stand up using my leg muscles instead of my abdominal muscles. But thats about it. Just don't over-do. You will feel like you can do things. But then you will try and do them and realize that when the doctor says 5-10 days...you should REALLY take 5-10 days!

Here's my experience - just had mine out two weeks ago. The first day after surgery, I didn't want anything solid at all - at the hospital I was in, you could call in your order to the cafeteria rather than them bringing around trays at meal time. I think I ate around noon or later, about 20 hrs after surgery, and all I wanted was broth and hot tea and hot coffee. The cafeteria lady was really understanding and let me have both since I wasn't feeling up to eating (plus, probably not hard for them to make anyway).
When I got out of the hospital, I knew I was low on coffee and tea at home, so I went shopping (omg thank heavens for motorized carts, no WAY could I have walked all around the store) and got some different fruits and also some cottage cheese (for some type of protein). I had heard of people having problems with milk so I got some almond milk to put in oatmeal with the fruit, and I think my stomach loves me whenever I eat that - think that decision is going to be a pretty permanent part of my diet for a while. I really only have problems with bread and pasta feeling like my stomach is just weighted down - but those carbs aren't good for you anyway and I'm over 50 now, so might be time to say goodbye to that part of my diet anyway since I don't much care for it at all. It's interesting, since the surgery, it's not at all hard to eat healthy. I don't have any interest in greasy stuff, and overall I'm eating a varied diet, but smaller meals. In my case having my gall bladder out might help keep me from developing heart and/or cholesterol problems in years to come. As for pain, I had some the day of the surgery, but I was proactive because after 4 cesareans, I can tell you that the sooner you start sitting up and walking, the sooner the pain starts to go away. Not running any marathons yet, but I didn't even need the pain pill prescription they sent me home with (I count that as a blessing, I know that some people have awful pain afterward).

5/14/14 Day Two-Much better day, headache and neckache most of the night even after throwing up, but woke up feeling pretty darn good. Belly incision hurts the most, that's where they pull the gallbladder out. No shower till tomorrow noon. All I have holding my incision together is a special "glue" they use now, no gauze. Post op is the 28th May.

Had my surgery yesterday, just one day after you. No stomach upset, but very sore all over my tummy, guess it's all of the air pumped into me. Getting in and out of bed is a bit difficult, but hoping tomorrow will be better. June 3 is my follow up. Did you feel any pressure from the air in your tummy?
