I have to do the same job. I took the floor shifter out and the council on an 02 Outback. It is very similar to the Impreza. I used vice grips to move the cable and drive it in front of the shop. I ordered a new cable BEFORE I took it apart because I have had this sort of thing happen before, but I could have re-welded a new bolt on the cable. I should have took it apart first. Oh well.... got an extra cable now for 50.00. You have a good video here !
Hey man I'm having this issue where my shifter is stuck in gear no matter where I move the lever. It went all the way down through the gears but putting the lever back up won't change anything. Can you show how you used the vice grips to get the car back into reverse? Mines stuck in a spot where I can't lift it and I want to get it pulled into the garage so I can get under the car.
Good video, found it while looking to find how to adjust the shifter cables two 12mm nuts where it connects to the shifter be the drive shaft That is apparently the adjuster according to the manual, but I'm.not.finding which way to slide to it further to get rid of of my p0851 that came back after changing the neutral safety switch
Yes it was getting stiff or hard to shift before it broke. You might be able to save it now if you take the plastic counsel off so you can spray the cantilever with penetrating fluid, or spray it from underneath! Good luck!
