- Celebrating the return of the classic season-opening event to the WRC calendar here is a pure engine sound mix of the world´s top rally drivers battling it out in the twisty and challenging roads of Rallye Monte Carlo in 1997-2007. The video features all the World Rally Champions from the past 20 years and 9 different manufacturer teams from the 2-litre WRC era.
WRC Rallye Monte Carlo 2012 will be driven between 18th and 22nd of January.

Obvious resemblance to road cars made this era so much more appealing than what we have today in WRC. Even Skoda Octavia looks 'different' on the street nowdays

18:35, perhaps one of the most uncompetitive Evolutions of world rally car... but the noise! Turbo and gearbox don't just whine, they scream. Engine doesn't growl, it roars. Anti-lag doesn't pop, it explodes. What a menacing sound.

GTP_Furinkazen sort of. Because 2.0 era was special due to the variety of kind of cars. Sedan, small, coupè, mid size hatchback. I think it was great for that too.

We miss you and we only can thank you all. But let's hope that in the future we will use the same words to tribute Sebatien, Mikko, Petter, Jari etc. God bless Rally. Wonderful video.

Last of the Mohicans!!! It's a shame rallying is a dying breed! The sound of the turbos chirping screaming engine's anti lag with flames. Banging out the straight thru pipes like explosion's, it happened to group b, group A then good old WRC, now we have these boring rice rockets that all look and sound the same, each car used to have its own character! Now they all sound alike!!! Rallying used to be the best and most watched sport on the planet!!! fACT!!!!! Now it's almost irrelevant, so sad 🚙💨 😔😔😔 RIP Colin McRae one of the most flamboyant drivers to ever drive a rally car!!!

Easily the second best era in rally behind the Group B era of the mid 80s. There's so much competition both in terms of drivers and in terms of manufacturers. These days WRC is pretty stale, there's only 4 different cars and little competition.
Group B group A and this WRC era was for men!!! The new 1.6 rally cars are for boys!!!
Andrew Ritchie all of the wrc era is pathetic in comparison to their homologated predecessors.

On par with the Group B era for me. Why? The cars are close to production spec and having owned, loved and still enjoy a modded STI there aren't too many type of cars one can lust after that have as much character and capability for the money.

If it was up to loeb he could have won his first WRC round in Monte Carlo but he got excluded following an illigal tyre change and dropped back down the order
@MrMupie Its not dead, just predictable and boring. Once loeb stops winning everything i think itll spring back to life. Same thing that happened to F1 with Schumacher.
It stayed boring lol. And now is even more with only two manufacturers able to compete for the championship. Lets see what 2022 without Ogier and Hybrid cars brings...
