I think it comes down to individual and gurparsad and what we are seeking when we go to a gurdwara or smagam. I have seen people moving and chatting outside when going for water break but its all gurparsad. But I have also observed the kirpa and a lot of sangat going in thoughtless sun smadh, others going on autonomous simran, sehj simran. The idea that its lost is not true, maharaj is akalpurakh, he will show the energy to the ones believing and seeking and do , but one needs to seek it
first , literally beg for it before you go sit in the Kirtan. That energy is also in harmandir sahib , at akal takhat sahib , at rooms where simran/path happens . The energy tranference also happen from sangat as well as you said and can charge other seekers who aren't doing abhiyas on daily basis it still happens one needs to seek it. But happens faster who try at home a little and not just the smagam, thats the root cause if sangat isnt experiencing it anymore. Bhul Chuk muaf .

The idea is learn to cook your own food for soul and not just be dependent on someone else. Then one would appreciate cherry on top a bit more.

I'm sure there was fanism. I cant imagine that people didnt have some level of fanism of Bhai Randhir Singh. Once he started doing kirtan, I'm sure people were less likely to get up.

Possibly... But they also did Kirtan for several hours at a time!
