Daiwa recently unveiled this reel at iCast 2022 and it has emerged as the most affordable MQ reel in their lineup.

Overall, the Procyon MQ is super lightweight, moderately sealed, and has just about everything you’d be looking for in a reel at that price point.
It comes down to what you want to get out of the spinning reel and how you like to fish!

Thanks for the review, I just received a 4000 yesterday from FishUSA for $129. Don’t know why it was so cheap, and they no longer carry that size ? But after watching this I know I scored. It’s going to make a great Albie reel. Great job as usual.

I have been fishing for 60+ years. If anybody had told me I would be paying $500 for a reel I would have thought them insane. My first spinning reel was a Mitchell 321, then up to a Mitchell 301. Now days I am fishing with Stella's, BG's and I just ordered a couple of Penn Authoritys'

If you had to choose a single reel between the Procyon AL LT and the new Procyon MQ LT, which would you choose? Removing the price since they are similar in that ... which is better? for bass fishing, some mangrove and rock fishing

20% to 30% larger in gear size but 20% to 30% weeker cause the gear is made of zinc! They need to step the gears up to brass or aluminum.

You're correct, Aluminum is a stronger metal than Zinc...but can you substantiate the difference between an Aluminum Gear Vs. a Zinc Gear after let's say 1 year worth of use? Is there any documentation to prove this? Otherwise, it's just speculation and "my buddy says 'X'" at this point.
The Zinc Gear that Daiwa uses isn't just "Larger". The teeth are cut deeper, as well as having a proportionate depth-cut to the Pinion Gear for better meshing/wearing.
Saying that Zinc is inferior to Aluminum may be true when it comes to the integrity of the metal itself...but in application for a spinning reel (especially for the majority of light tackle Freshwater & Inshore Saltwater spinning reels), it doesn't make a difference. Not everyone is trying to winch in 100qty 40"+ fish in deep water against current, most anglers are just fishing the flats or underneath mangroves/docks, and for this application there simply isn't an advantage to using Aluminum, Brass, Stainless or otherwise over traditionally used Zinc.

So true, it's frustrating because there are many issues with the lt reels I can imagine with bad gears. I had a bad certate lt and regret selling the old HD.

Those seemed very solid as well (I had a chance to play with a 3000 size a few weeks back). It's just in a completely different category than this particular reel. The Kapatan Elite, like you mentioned, is a solid aluminum body and IPX6 Sealed...which is great if you are a Surf Angler, or fish with live bait more often. The Procyon MQ is more designed for artificial lures in shallower water scenarios because it is lightweight (under 7oz in the 2500 size). The Kapstan Elite is more similar in design to a Penn Spinfisher VI.
