I love coming back to the 'older' videos. I have all 5 of these and like them all so I must be doing something right. Cheers Jason. My top 5 would probably be Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey 101, Elijah Craig, Four Roses Small Batch and High West American Bourbon. Some of those because of the lower proofs that I like to start the night with. :)

As a scotch drinker, I found this review to be solid - look forward to setting some benchmarks with these. I have been drawn in via the Jack Daniels Select Barrel... completely surprised me.
OK I must admit that the Knob Creek 120 proof was less than satisfactory. I found it rather uni-dimensional and sort of boring to be honest. I enjoyed the Jack Daniel's single barrel much more. Also the Colonel EH Taylor single barrel is just far more complex though apparently that cost a few $100. This area remains new to me and I remain open to exploration.
Enjoyed the list. 4 🌹SB is a personal favorite. Haven't opened my ER yet...hard to find here. Looking fwd to checking out the 2020 vid to see if these made the cut.
Eagle Rare has been my favorite bourbon for years; however, of late, haven't found it in Dallas, Texas; I read that it usually is distributed in the fall; so, I now have Buffalo Trace; also, I might get Wild Turkey 101 next time.
KC single barrel is probably my fav. but the small batch 1.75 ml was on sale for $60 and who the hell don't like a bargain. Thanks and best regards for your good words.

Elijah Craig is my go-to everyday sipper. Price just went up first of the year here in Virginia. Big bottle was $52.99, now $59.99. All the Bourbons have gone up in price....Virginia ABC (state run) has a monopoly on booze and I'm not happy about it . Roughly 5 to 6 percent increase across the board.
@@denny6281 yup. Been seeing that everywhere. Even Birddog 10 year has doubled in price. Unfortunately the secondary market and the bourbon boom is driving price up. Four Roses single barrel is even supposed to be getting allocated supposedly. Crazy stuff.

I can never understand why a whisky channels has to stick to just Bourbon or American whisky, that being said the content here is top quality fantastic reviews, but wish you’d make your selections more universal and diverse. But this will be my go to bourbon channel

So very true. I currently live in South Korea and would love to have the selection you and many others in America have, but I am thankful for being able to go on post and pick up the Bourbon and other whiskies they provide.

Larceny is house favorite, can't say the rest of the list was agreeable. Big fan of Even Williams single batch, Michter's and Jefferson Reserve. All under the $30 mark. Honorable mention Angel's Envy. Thanks for the thoughts and happy sipping my friend
I'm going to have to pick up a bottle of the KC SB, it's the only one I haven't had on this list. All the others are in regular rotation (well Eagle Rare whenever I can find it) as is Elijah Craig Small Batch and Russells 10 year.

Great call with Wild Turkey 101 and 4 Roses SB. Also Eagle Rare by me is so scarce. If stores do have it they're pricing it now at $38 to $43. I'm surprised that the Evan Williams SB didn't make the list.

Hey, Jason, another fun review and the lighting was more dramatic, more interesting. Here's my list of bourbons that I shared with Aqvavitae: Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey 101, Larceny, Buffalo Trace, and Eagle Rare 10 year (getting hard to find). Damn close to yours. Of course, I'm a big Maker's Mark fan. When I moved to Louisville, Ky, and found it, I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. I try to never be with out it. I even keep a bottle by my bedside to help recover from those pesky nightmares I sometimes have.

Am I the only one who loves Evan Williams? Nine times out of 10 I buy Evan Williams bottled in bond white label. I can afford the more expensive stuff at least a few of those times but I always see myself returning to Evan. However right now I am working my way through a bottle of the Jim Beam repeal batch and quite honestly if it weren't for the fact that that's just a limited-time run I would probably switch to that it is mind-blowing good
Not at all! I love the Evan Williams BiB. Its been my replacement for the Heaven Hill BiB being discontinued. Jim Beam Repeal batch I reviewed and I agree its a great bourbon for the price!
@@TheMashandDrum the first sip I took from the repeal batch I stood there almost in awe for a few mins. Knowing that it's only a limited time run I ran to the Mid-Columbia Wine and Spirits here in Kennewick Washington (which is basically the Disneyland of liquor stores) and bought 10 more bottles to have as rare treats either until they bring it back or I die. I I am wondering what the most expensive bottle of bourbon you've ever had and disliked is? For me a few months ago I bought a bottle of Joseph Magnus bourbon for about $120 and I was extremely disappointed. not that it was bad but it just wasn't good enough to justify that price like I feel if they had taken at least half off the price it would have been semi worth it.

Great Top 5! You have convinced me to go buy the Knob Creek SB as it is the only one I do not have that was on your list. The only one missing from your list I have to have is the Elijah Craig Small Batch. This is an easily replaceable (almost) everyday bourbon for me. I am more of a "Oak, Tobacco, and Leather" type guy over things like the "Cherry Bombs" or the "Sweeter Wheaters" and Elijah Craig has nailed it IMO. Anyway, new subscriber here. Great video, only Wild Turkey 101 is not 8 years old but more like 6 or 7 years at most. There used to be an 8 year old bottling from WT 101 (with the 8 year age statement on the bottle label) which was for export only mostly to the European continent and Asian market. It sadly is discontinued and no longer available which is a real loss; it was way better than the standard 101 (without the age statement) and that extra 12 to 18 months of aging really made a world of difference. Good choice of bourbons though, only instead of Larceny I would have included Evan Williams Bottled in Bond (white label) in this top 5. Considering price and availability, you can't beat it (check out Jason Pyle's review on it). Cheers! 🥃
Good choices. However, I cannot find Knob Creek single barrel anywhere around me. So, this wouldn't be on my list. Maybe the regular Knob Creek. Elijah Craig would be on my list as well. Even the grocery stores carry it.
I wish Eagle Rare was a shelfer like it is in some states; we seem to get it once a month in Ohio. Love the stuff! What do you think of Four Roses SmB for around $30?
Couldn't find the Knob single barrel small batch 120, but I did grab a Knob small batch 100 proof and it is so freakin' good!!! Gotta pick up that WT 101 - seems everyone is recommending that one. I did recently pick up their American Honey and it is fantastic.

It's too bad some of these are becoming more difficult to find at reasonable prices. I guess the answer is to drink up and buy more quickly?!

I personally am a fan of the Four Roses. I am wondering if the Stagg jr would satisfied your criteria as it would be very high on my list. Good call on the Weller!
Mike Dubs The Four Roses is not a Powerhouse like Elijah Craig or Stagg jr but offers to me a very complex flavor, very rounded. Another point for it is that it is relatively constant compared to something like Jack Daniel single barrel.
I've never had Larceny but I agree with the other choices--only problem being that Eagle Rare seems to have gotten on everyone's radar somehow and now it's hard to find, at least where I live. I don't know what it is about bourbon, years ago I could find a bourbon and regularly enjoy it--even bought Van Winkle 20 year off the shelf, no lottery or black market involved--now every time I start to enjoy something it gets mentioned somewhere and everyone stampedes to buy it up. My basic, always-available bourbon is now Buffalo Trace.
You are right Jude. If I could go back and change this video I would take eagle rare out and add Elijah Craig I think. Eagle rare has gotten harder to find now. It's the bourbon boom. It's still very strong and is only getting stronger. Fortunately there is plenty of food bourbon out there to drink for 25-50 bucks that I would gladly take over Pappy. Cheers!

I have read that in most states KC single barrel is slightly more expensive than their small batch. Not so in my state run liquor stores. The single barrel is 73% more expensive ($52) than small batch. While I'm an avid fan of the small batch, just can't see paying that much more for the single barrel.

Great review as always ! Er is almost impossible to get in Ontario and 57 dollars luckily I did manage to get 2 . I think that the flavours are great but too laid back and it needs more abv. . My top 3 available go to Wtrb @ 65 4 rosses sb @53 kcsb @60 These next 4 are a toss up to pick from and a drop down from my top 3 . Larceny @45 Ec @ 50 1792 @ 50 Wt101 @ 40 I would pick wellers antique 107 ( great stuff ) @ 65 but it's like Eagle Rare a limited Supply that comes in only once a year and disappears within one or two days. Unfortunately almost all the pricier stuff than these bottles are only available thru the lottery . Good luck on that .. Although surprisingly the 1792 sb @ 60 was a lottery item. I just got the whiskey itch a little over a year and a half ago. I think the list is awesome as it has good bourbons to get your feet wet on. Larceny I will be picking up next bottle. Love the KC120 and the 4🌹 SiB. And WT101

KC Single is my choice at the moment; it is 51 plus tax here The KC small batch 1.75 liter is sale priced at $59 ; too good to pass up, at least in my state. Nosing a big bottle of KC is pretty amazing.
I highly agree! Knob Creek is still one of the best if not THE best buy on the market. I put it right up there with Russels Reserve single barrel and Four Roses Single barrel in that 40-50 dollar range. Cheers!
Great list however, I would love to know how you are able to acquire Eagle Rare easily? I have only been able to purchase once and that was at Buffalo Trace directly during a tour. I live in St. Louis and it is not readily available. Also, due to liquor laws it cannot be shipped here. Any advice on acquiring it at a fair price?
Yeah I have updated this list. I left off eagle rare because like you I can't find it anymore. Whenever I go to NY or Michigan I can find it everywhere. If you know people or family in other states have them look around.

I'm going to have to pick up a bottle of the KC SB, it's the only one I haven't had on this list. All the others are in regular rotation (well Eagle Rare whenever I can find it) as is Elijah Craig Small Batch and Russells 10 year.

Great call with Wild Turkey 101 and 4 Roses SB. Also Eagle Rare by me is so scarce. If stores do have it they're pricing it now at $38 to $43. I'm surprised that the Evan Williams SB didn't make the list.

Hey, Jason, another fun review and the lighting was more dramatic, more interesting. Here's my list of bourbons that I shared with Aqvavitae: Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey 101, Larceny, Buffalo Trace, and Eagle Rare 10 year (getting hard to find). Damn close to yours. Of course, I'm a big Maker's Mark fan. When I moved to Louisville, Ky, and found it, I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. I try to never be with out it. I even keep a bottle by my bedside to help recover from those pesky nightmares I sometimes have.

Am I the only one who loves Evan Williams? Nine times out of 10 I buy Evan Williams bottled in bond white label. I can afford the more expensive stuff at least a few of those times but I always see myself returning to Evan. However right now I am working my way through a bottle of the Jim Beam repeal batch and quite honestly if it weren't for the fact that that's just a limited-time run I would probably switch to that it is mind-blowing good
Not at all! I love the Evan Williams BiB. Its been my replacement for the Heaven Hill BiB being discontinued. Jim Beam Repeal batch I reviewed and I agree its a great bourbon for the price!
@@TheMashandDrum the first sip I took from the repeal batch I stood there almost in awe for a few mins. Knowing that it's only a limited time run I ran to the Mid-Columbia Wine and Spirits here in Kennewick Washington (which is basically the Disneyland of liquor stores) and bought 10 more bottles to have as rare treats either until they bring it back or I die. I I am wondering what the most expensive bottle of bourbon you've ever had and disliked is? For me a few months ago I bought a bottle of Joseph Magnus bourbon for about $120 and I was extremely disappointed. not that it was bad but it just wasn't good enough to justify that price like I feel if they had taken at least half off the price it would have been semi worth it.

Great Top 5! You have convinced me to go buy the Knob Creek SB as it is the only one I do not have that was on your list. The only one missing from your list I have to have is the Elijah Craig Small Batch. This is an easily replaceable (almost) everyday bourbon for me. I am more of a "Oak, Tobacco, and Leather" type guy over things like the "Cherry Bombs" or the "Sweeter Wheaters" and Elijah Craig has nailed it IMO. Anyway, new subscriber here. I look forward to watching some more of your videos.

Great video, only Wild Turkey 101 is not 8 years old but more like 6 or 7 years at most. There used to be an 8 year old bottling from WT 101 (with the 8 year age statement on the bottle label) which was for export only mostly to the European continent and Asian market. It sadly is discontinued and no longer available which is a real loss; it was way better than the standard 101 (without the age statement) and that extra 12 to 18 months of aging really made a world of difference. Good choice of bourbons though, only instead of Larceny I would have included Evan Williams Bottled in Bond (white label) in this top 5. Considering price and availability, you can't beat it (check out Jason Pyle's review on it). Cheers! 🥃

Couldn't find the Knob single barrel small batch 120, but I did grab a Knob small batch 100 proof and it is so freakin' good!!! Gotta pick up that WT 101 - seems everyone is recommending that one. I did recently pick up their American Honey and it is fantastic.
The honey is very good. The 101 is the best affordable bourbon on the shelf in my opinion. Cheers!

I personally am a fan of the Four Roses. I am wondering if the Stagg jr would satisfied your criteria as it would be very high on my list. Good call on the Weller!
Stagg Jr. is great, but not very available, and when it is, the price is jacked up.
How close is the four roses?
Mike Dubs The Four Roses is not a Powerhouse like Elijah Craig or Stagg jr but offers to me a very complex flavor, very rounded. Another point for it is that it is relatively constant compared to something like Jack Daniel single barrel.
I've never had Larceny but I agree with the other choices--only problem being that Eagle Rare seems to have gotten on everyone's radar somehow and now it's hard to find, at least where I live. I don't know what it is about bourbon, years ago I could find a bourbon and regularly enjoy it--even bought Van Winkle 20 year off the shelf, no lottery or black market involved--now every time I start to enjoy something it gets mentioned somewhere and everyone stampedes to buy it up. My basic, always-available bourbon is now Buffalo Trace.
You are right Jude. If I could go back and change this video I would take eagle rare out and add Elijah Craig I think. Eagle rare has gotten harder to find now. It's the bourbon boom. It's still very strong and is only getting stronger. Fortunately there is plenty of food bourbon out there to drink for 25-50 bucks that I would gladly take over Pappy. Cheers!

I have read that in most states KC single barrel is slightly more expensive than their small batch. Not so in my state run liquor stores. The single barrel is 73% more expensive ($52) than small batch. While I'm an avid fan of the small batch, just can't see paying that much more for the single barrel.

I just got the whiskey itch a little over a year and a half ago. I think the list is awesome as it has good bourbons to get your feet wet on. Larceny I will be picking up next bottle. Love the KC120 and the 4🌹 SiB. And WT101

KC Single is my choice at the moment; it is 51 plus tax here The KC small batch 1.75 liter is sale priced at $59 ; too good to pass up, at least in my state. Nosing a big bottle of KC is pretty amazing.
I highly agree! Knob Creek is still one of the best if not THE best buy on the market. I put it right up there with Russels Reserve single barrel and Four Roses Single barrel in that 40-50 dollar range. Cheers!

Great list however, I would love to know how you are able to acquire Eagle Rare easily? I have only been able to purchase once and that was at Buffalo Trace directly during a tour. I live in St. Louis and it is not readily available. Also, due to liquor laws it cannot be shipped here. Any advice on acquiring it at a fair price?
Yeah I have updated this list. I left off eagle rare because like you I can't find it anymore. Whenever I go to NY or Michigan I can find it everywhere. If you know people or family in other states have them look around.
