I ADORE the costumes in episodes 2 and 3! I plan to recreate at least one of Raenyra’s dresses from episode 2 for myself. And honestly, the time jumps make me like the episode 1 costumes a lot better, like Raenyra was in that really awkward part of puberty where nothing fits you right.
She's still in that phase.
Rhaenyra had another dress, when her father told her about aid being sent to Stepstones and him not replacing her with Aegon. Gold and red with wonderful sleeves. I don't think we saw it before. I really liked it. As the red dress with lizard like collar from episode 1 from the tournament. 😍
Hi Madam, yes there was a new dress this epi but also a repeat of her gold long sleeve dress from epi 2, will also be in epi 4.
5:22 The poor footman probably sent his clothes to the dry cleaners to make sure he'd look sharp for the big hunt only to find out too late that they shrunk his uniform.
On a serious note, I've really enjoyed your HotD and GoT videos since discovering your channel last month. I'm not the most observant when it comes to costumes, so these videos add layers of meaning that I'd likely miss.

Definitely felt like the costumes were finally finding their vibe in this episode. The fits weren't as egregiously bad, but we also saw fewer costumes on the main characters so a bit difficult to judge. Also, so many of them were in leather, which has more structure so it hides fitting issues a bit.
You know one thing I enjoyed about this episode was that it was a lot more low-key in focused more on the court politics. And we got to see some Lannister‘s, I’ve missed those golden haired schemers. 🦁

This was without a doubt the best Rhaenyra costume to date (including E7). The cut, the fit, the cutouts and embroidered details. Corlys also looks amazing in his armour.

Did Rhaenyra wear that gold dress again this episode? I could’ve sworn she wore a new long sleeved gold gown with a sort of brocade fabric and flowy sleeves?

You are not losing your mind. I didn't get a screen grab of the new one or the repeat. Hopefully they will release some more images of that new one.
I'll admit the armor and costumes are a lot better in episode 3 than in episodes 1 and 2. The designer is starting to get her bearings and come into her own. I hope she will continue to improve throughout the series. A series like this could be a wonderful learning experience for any designer, whether they're old or new, to improve/expand their technique and choices. Awesome video as always!

The realism of wearing your clothes multiple days in a row suggests she’s seriously depressed. 😅 Would that I didn’t know.
@@IonIsFalling7217 for me wearing the same clothes multiple days in a row means the t-shirt and the hoodie have passed the sniff test, and pants as we know are eternal, they don't ever get dirty or need a wash.

that bleak creme color even the pale gold one in episode 2 doesn't suit the actress who plays Rhaenyra's complexion she is too pale and her dress is almost similar to her skin tone and hair. Btw have you heard that Elisabeth Olsen is in talks to join the house of the dragon season 2, hopefully, she plays a Targaryen :D
She won't be playing a Targaryen. All the Targaryens involved in the Dance of Dragons have been cast.

The fittings in HOTD costumes are not the best, I'd say the Ladys were better dressed in GOT and the men are way better in House of the Dragon.

Not sure if you know this but they release deleted scenes well pictures of deleted scenes, and one of them includes the dress that Alicent was to have supposedly worn for her marriage to Viserys, I was thinking you might want to look it up because they show the gown pretty up close. Actually a picture of the gown itself as well

Hi My pets, they are typically made of canvas cloth.
@@Costume_CO thank you for the quick reply ☺️, i have always wondered what cloth do they use to make these awesome house banners? They look so good 🥰 especially house Hightower banner and house Targaryen banner.
And canvas is paintable so if you ever want to make one yourself, you can buy canvas at most fabric stores.

Yes agreed, it doesn't make much sense that the Queen would be wearing the same outfit 2 days in a row, let alone the Princess. Shouldn't Alicent have different costumes just through one day? Eg. She wouldn't wear the same dress to travel as she would for dinner and drinks... I think the costumes are beautiful but they need more changes for sure. Even episode 2 with her scale dress, I like that outfit repeating is realistic but a highborn lady/girl would have more than one dress 😂 especially since they're probably not wearing slips!!! Stinky!

Mmmm I am curious about this. I'm not familiar with how many times medieval royalty changed, but my understanding is that they would still have far fewer gowns than in later periods. I feel like the "change for every occasion" is a much later invention. That said, I would imagine you're totally right and wearing the same outfit for travel as dinner seems to be very very unlikely.
@@Theater00jock you are probably right and I am thinking of later eras, however we are watching "the height of an empire" and the Queen should be the absolute height of fashion and decadence for that empire... In my opinion anyway 😅
I also think there was a bit of a missed opportunity design-wise in terms of accuracy regarding the women’s clothing in general. There was really no such thing as maternity wear until pretty recently for even the wealthiest because most women spent more time pregnant and clothing was so freaking expensive. Rhaenyra, as a young unmarried girl and dragon rider fits in a bit of a different category but most of the other women, including Alicent, would more likely be dressed in styles that could be adjusted in some way to accomodate a changing figure.
Costumes are part of the story telling device.

I saw that she has a different style in an upcoming episode.
The shoddy tailoring and fitting is a damn shame. Rhaenyra's gold dress is so pretty and rather interesting but it doesn't fit the actress anywhere near as well as it should. It looks like Rhaenyra bought that dress off the rack, which is ridiculous because she's a princess and supposed to be queen one day. Overall, the men are dressed much better but there's still mistakes like what you pointed out with the footmen.
