Yamaha XT600 engine rattle knocking

If you hear a knocking/rattling sound from your XT600 engine this can be the problem. It's a common problem if nut not is tightened correctly to 60Nm. The key on mine had snatched too. I got it out without removing the clutch basket using a little metal hook and a magnet.

I had the same problem, changed the key and washer, tightened the nut to 120 Nm 👌

do you have to take apart the clutch to exchange the key and the washer or is it enough to take the cover off?

@@bbenc85 you don't need to remove the clutch, remove the cover and you have everything at hand, pay attention to the water pump and oil filter with their respective gaskets

never had that on an xt, but dr350 is a different matter not even a tab washer on those, locktite is the only cure and sometimes that can fail, but suzuki in their wisdom have screwed a stainless steel tab to the clutch case opposite so it dosent come through case when it loosens off, how forward thinking is that !!!
