I was going to say, imagine being there, present for this moment in time. I keep coming back to it periodically. It's the most satisfying performance possibly ever, for an amazing song to begin with! You're so lucky!! 😂
Malkmus's energy is so cool in this vid. It's like a mix of feeling it and pissed off frustration that culminates in jigging around with the guitar behind his head
Luckily barring an unforeseen event, plane crash, car crash etc I'm seeing ,hoping old age as the cause. I cant wait to see what he will do as an older aged musician
@@pineapplecircus being a younger person Traditional Techniques was my first record of his I really fell in love with (though I loved Silver Jews and knew of pavement)…such a tremendous record
Their music is really so complex. The Melodies are always strong and interesting and the harmonies with all the different guitar tunings are so beautiful and they do so much variance within the time signatures and use different time signatures and strumming patterns in all of their songs.
I was there that night at the Manchester University Academy to see them for the third time since Reading 1991. Alas it was also my final time too. I remember Malkmus being rather surly even by his own standards and the mood was dark as too was the room and not very full either but the performance was musically sharp and mesmeric and me and the other Pave-heads there loved it.
Best Pavement song and performance ever, it always ties with range life for me but hes playing that guitar like it's never not been attached to his body ,such a simple jingle but it makes for the old 1 -2 note Neil young solo sound lol
I'm reading a book about Wowee Zowee, and I stumble again on this comment. Funny thing is, Malkmus basically said the same thing about the solo in Rattled by the rush! "There were probably some quotation marks around that solo, but it's still a solo"

people shit on Bob N but everyone is pretty much subservient to the Malkman in this band, I think that's how it was formed intentionally or not, and his energy allows for the looseness that makes Pavement so shoulder shrugging 90s.
Malkmus was being a bit of a jerk to the backstage crew. He goes to hand his guitar to the guy, pulls it away, teases him, then asks the other guy to carry the 2nd guitar 2ft over to him. Looks like Ibold was like: "NAH."
this is from literally days before they broke up right? it's certainly got that air about it - malkmus doesn't give a fuuuck. i mean in a good way but also a slightly scary way
He never gave a fuck, but here he really just didn't want to do it anymore. I saw them in Chicago, they're last U.S show before the breakup and he looked like he was suffering on stage, almost like playing was a chore.
j wds Yeah, it seemed like it was a real chore. He was playing the guitar behind his back and dancing and kicking and strumming and having a ball. Yeah, looks like a real chore.
@@wildmercuryfilms Yeah, but look at that facial expression, and the lack of excitement in the movements. It almost looks like he had to punch a timecard before walking on that stage. Burnout is a real thing, even with successful musicians

Too bad they only have one great song and that's it... they also have some good songs.. but only one great one...maybe if he spent less time trying to rip the pumpkins in the 90"s over jealousy and more on songwriting they would have had more gems like this one...😕
I was there as a sprightly 17 year old. Still have amazing memories of this gig and so happy that it came out on dvd. The academy was a great venue.
Tom Brimelow niccce. Wish I saw them in their prime

One of the great riffs of all time. Right up there with Cinnamon Girl.
