Got some good ideas from this. I want to buy a system, but they are so expensive. I think I’ll just do it myself after watching this. Thanks.

I was in the same boat. Liked the nice off the shelf options but so pricey. Im glad this helped you out and i definitely encourage you to build one yourself. Good luck!

Nice and simple without complicating things.

This is an awesome build. A 4runner is my next vehicle 🤞 and I'll modify for camping. I think I'd split the flip section so I'd still have a back seat if I want. I'm wondering what you'd do differently. Thanks for making the video!

Can't go wrong with a 4runner. One of the most reliable vehicles ever made. I like that idea a lot, that way you could even keep a sleep setup for just 1 person. Lowering the overall height is the main thing I would change so I could sit upright when on top of it. Thanks for watching!

Great work on the platform! I made something similar for my 06 Land Cruiser 120 series, some years back as well. Never did a video on it, but seeing yours makes me want to do one. It’s useful and inspiring for folks like us who want to go and explore but take pride in building our own solutions and not breaking the bank. Subscribed! Greetings from Sweden!

Hey! Im looking to do the exact same thing, running into some decision making when it comes to where the seats come up. I know you said you don't have dimensions, but how tall is the platform from the floor in the trunk/if you made it shorter, what height would you go? (We're also small people and would like the luxury of sitting up if its possible) I'll probably think of some other question but thanks in advance!

Maybe slide the orange plates under the RTT to improve fuel efficiency ?

With how the tent overhangs my rack, on all sides, it's not really feasible. I'm trying to figure out a solution for on the rear, but for now this is getting me by!

Do you have a list of measurements for every plywood that you used?

Hey unfortunately I do not. I just built it on the fly

Nice setup how much time did it take to make. And how did it cost u?

Thanks Tod! I got it knocked out in about 2 weekends and I'd guess it cost around $250 for all materials: plywood, wood, marine carpet, stainless staples, piano hinges.etc

Where did you get those metal support legs? Thanks. Great set up!

I made them from some pipe and steel flanges. Pretty basic, and they could certainly be improved upon!

I'm 6'7 and definitely can not fit inside lying down I have the rear door open and run a tarp over the top of it

Gotta do what you gotta do, at least you're still getting out camping!
