- Germany's parliament narrowly approved a proposal on Wednesday to tighten immigration policies, including by rejecting asylum seekers at the border. The plan, criticized by the left as "inhumane," calls for permanent border controls, detaining those required to leave, and rejecting asylum seekers from other EU countries deemed safe from persecution. The proposal, led by conservative CDU leader Friedrich Merz, is a key part of his strategy ahead of the February 23 German elections. To break down the legal complexities, we were joined by Marcin Górski, Chair of European Constitutional Law at the University of Łódź.
