- I was lucky enough to photograph the spectacular northern lights in Iceland. In this video I speak to Aurora expert Mads Peter Iversen about his top tips for shooting the Aurora and share my camera settings for great Northern Lights photos.

I love how on Sunday my subox get filled up with videos from my favourite photography youtubers. New videos from you, James Popsys and Thomas Heaton, and usually in that order. I know in the morning there will be Danson video, in the afternoon a Popsys video, and in the early evening a Heaton video. It makes the Sunday so much better.

We also met in Iceland so all good 😂glad you guys had fun. We also shot the aurora over Vestrahorn in 2015 it was spectacular. I’d love to go back there and shoot the aurora again.

Such a wonderful video! I love Northern lights. It's actually on my bucket list, even though I had the chance to "see" one (through a long exposure on my compact camera, not with naked eye), when I was an Erasmus student in Aberdeen. I got a notification from an aurora forecast website, telling me auroras were visible from Aberdeen. I ran to the beach to avoid as luch light pollution as possible. I couldn't really see it with my own eyes, but my camera captured the green colour of it. It was really far away at the horizon. So now, can't wait to see one right above me!
Fantastic video! What a beautiful location and I love the photos you posted showing the settings. What a huge difference they made!! Your tips are wonderful too. Composition is something I tend to forget when shooting the northern lights.

He's not wrong about the weather. I was in Iceland in Feb this year and we had thick cloud and rain for most of our trip. I'll just have to admire your photos instead!
Wow, a top notch vlogg throughout. I love the selfie , a 'Beam me up Scottie' moment. I always watch Mads' videos too, so between you, him and some others I am sold on the idea to visit Iceland.

Some wonderful images Nigel. Surely a huge bonus to have Mads along. I visited the British Isles a few years ago in hopes of returning to the States with three images worth framing. Instead I have hundreds of photos documenting the trip and only one that made it to the wall. Your comments will remind me to slow down and do some scouting on my next adventure.

Another super video. Particularly like your point about taking time at one location and not trying to snap every view. Also appreciate that you added the exposure, shutter speed and ISO details alongside the images. Very helpful. Good old fuji!

Another superb video. Those photographs are perfect. Particularly like the one with the path running through the grass as a leading line up to the Aurora. Composition is proving to be a hurdle for me. But your videos are helping.....I think.😂

Really beautiful shots of Aurora, as well as helpful information of how you captured them (with detailed settings)! Thank you so much for amazing Iceland episodes, I really enjoyed them all! I took several (but not enough!) shots of the Southern Lights in New Zealand last year, and they were also very beautiful with pink-ish colors. But, I do wish to see and capture the Green Northern Lights one day. Your video will be big help when I do!

I often think just spending time learning your location and really scouting out a location is as beneficial as great gear, great light etc. I can tell you that locations that I feel very unfamiliar with make me quite uncomfortable to shoot in nowawadays. You bagged some stunning images of the aurora lights. What a stunning place to be and get to witness such a show. Really enjoyed the series. Cheers.

Wow, Nigel! Those Northern Lights images really are awesome! I love the image where the lights are crowning the top of the mountain. The drown videos are fantastic and I appreciate the advice. I hope to get to Iceland one day, but I'm not sure when-it sure is a stunning place for landscape photography. As always, thanks so much!

Wow the pink on the glacier was fantastic. Loved the aurora shots, very beautiful. I agree about what you say about not stopping all the time to take snapshots, I can be very trigger happy. I’m trying to plan for our trip to Canada in the summer and trying to pin down some areas that are a must. I want to capture as much of the scenery, vista and wildlife as I can as I know it will be a very long time before, if ever, I go back. What suggestions can you make? Also as it is also a holiday I want to make sure that I’m not going to be dragging the hubby around on a photo shoot all the time as he is a less enthusiastic photographer.
I would ensure that you choose 2-3 locations and try and dedicated a good few hours to photographing them around sunrise / sunset. And then just enjoy the rest and don’t worry about great photos. That way you will have a more relaxing time but still get something great 👊👍

The xt2 handled those aurora images very well... I’ve also seen many many images of the aurora and I think yours are right up there!

A landing mat wouldn’t have solved that - I crashed it a long way away!
