FINALLY! A song about hardship, country isn't dead. Now if only I could hear this on the radio instead of some bro's singing about taking "girl" out to a party to drink good stuff, or a guy singing about drinking whiskey because "girl" left him, all set to the tune of electric guitars and drums and "snaps".

They got the farmhouse burning, watched it burn to the ground
Smoke filled the horizon just two miles from town
There was no need to worry, there was no one who'd care
It was a dog den where good men were rare
    [Verse 2]
With the wheels on the highway through the cold autumn rain
Out came the pistols and a book full of names
Thumbing each one who'd sing out the words
Facing hard time is an old junkie curse
    [Chorus]
    On down between the country
Where deer lay along the road
    On down between the country
Where a long life is a blessed one, I'm told
    [Verse 3]
When they caught up with Henry, he was out in his yard
Splitting that beechwood before the winter hit hard
Laid a bullet in his back, watched him drop like a rock
And come to rest 'cross that old chopping block
    [Verse 4]
Anne Carol ran the uppers from the laundry downtown
Played online poker when there was no one around
And except for a few strays in the dead parking lot
Not a soul heard the thud or the shot
    [Chorus]
    On down between the country
Where deer lay along the road
    On down between the country
Where a long life is a blessed one, I'm told

His lyrics hard like a sledgehammer, where it matters, there's something real there, that can't be fabricated where death and betrayal and the longing for something more than what we got in this life. found in the palisades where there's no other place to hide, there's a beauty that withstands and lets up hold close those we need the most.

You know that line from "The Ride" where Hank Williams asks the stranger hitchhiking, "can you make folks feel what you feel inside?"
This entire album leaves most folk, bluegrass, and whatever the fuck "country" is these days, strung out to dry. It's like the whole of Appalachia is crying out in song.
I think Ian Noe could confidently tell Hank Williams that he can.

Ian come to MinneSnowTa (Minnesota) and somewhere NOT in the big "metro" Twin Cities area, PLEASE! Heck bro, I'd host a concert on my 5 acres if you'd like to bust it up here. We'd throw you a HECK of a good time with smoked meats, spirits (if still into that or not), flower, and a damn comfy place to crash. You tell me the terms and I'm sure we can make it work. Would love to hear you and the band come here to Minnesota.

Will you please play another non festival show in SoCal while you’re out here for Stagecoach (for all us displaced Midwesterners). You’re my favorite country musician by a long shot, but that festival is a little steep for only wanting to see one performer. It would be so dang cool to see you play without having to go all the way to Kentucky lol. Hopefully you can sprinkle in some performances out here soon. Either way I deeply appreciate your raw song writing and haunting vocals. lookin’ forward to whatever you come up with Ian!
