Well the background of it is there is a competition called "Paradox Live" (hint the name) that's at a place called "CLUB Paradox". The 4 teams received invitations to compete there. The winning team gets 10 billion yen and a chance to challenge the legendary rapper team "Buraikan". As for trap reactions, trap reactions are illusions or memories of the most traumatic events for each character. They get trap reactions after using their "Phantometal". Phantometals are like accessories that each character uses to create illusions for a better performance. The Phantometals are infused with their DNA. The side effect of using the Phantometal is trap reactions. As for why Ryu doesn't get them, the fandom think's it's because of the experimentations Ryu might have went through.
