HEY ITALIANO. Thought u were just gonna be another tech geek who listens to hip hop because it's trendy but I see you have passion and expertise!~ right on, this helped !
Came here from a comment mentioning that they used an 808 for the music of the game "Luigis Mansion". Its interesing how so many synthesizers have such distinctive sounds.
attack, decay, sustain and release are parts of the formation of any sound in the world. Snare drums have a larger attack than a guitar. Guitar has more than a piano.
Personally I don’t care for the 808 sound because it’s so overused. In my opinion. But I do think it was a very clever thing at one point. So hats off to the innovator.
I didn’t realize it’s use had changed. Interesting! Great break down! In PTX’s original song “Sing”, Kevin (the beatboxer) has this rap section: “KO on the beat, okay? I'm the human 808 Go ahead, go sing it, don't talk Cause the beat won't stop No way, way, way, way!”
So an 808 is not just all bass in general but a particular type of bass? That’s the type of sound in that song by Travis Scott sicko mode? That bass sound gives me the chills but not in a good way lol I really like the original sound though with the Rowland machine
I am new to the world of beats. I just purchased the Roland 808, to give this a try. I am not sure how your modern example works on the original. Any ideas?
In the first beat there is this "steel drum" type laying over the drums. Whaaaats this called. Some German rappers really use this effect very often and my first impulse was to Google for 808. Now I know what the 808 is, but still not whats this steeldrum stuff is. Where does it come from?
@@swiperhits while it was invented in the 1960s it was only used in commercial installations, it was 1980s hip-hop that got people to put them in their cars so they could hear the 808 kick.
What makes the 808 kick so much more predominant? Is it the frequency? What? I’m a bass player who has played loud as F(multiple 70’s Ampeg SVT amps)live and recorded however, they never make license plates rattle. They’re loud but, not as sonic.
the 808 bass that kids talk about today is not the low tuned kick drum from the TR-808. The TR-808 kick never had that long of a hold and release. it’s now manipulated to use as a bass line. So why do we call it an 808 when it’s just a sine wave with a long release? the 808 is a kick drum not a bass line.
Respect for anyone who take time out of their life to teach others something new
appreciate you
So the 808 is the little clapping sound you hear in most rap beats?
@@ScumLxrd1993 yeah its basically like it’s own bass or drum sound

Actually I think you’re correct

Tell me more, I don’t know anything about it
🥱 keep 808 away from your children if you value your children's innocence. "LESS OF AN ATTACK" 4:03 is very telling
