TEXAS is up next in The US Explained and I'm really excited! I've been there, but I still need some help! Texans, it's your time to shine! Please reply to fill me in on what I need to know about your home state, such as unique food, traditions, places, some fun facts and local dialects and pronunciations! I can't promise everything will make it into the video, but I will try my best, and I'm looking forward to getting started!
Texans are very proud of the former Republic of Texas and believe a number of myths, such as false claims that Texas retains the right to secede, was the only independent nation to join the US, only state flag that can fly as high as the US flag, etc. Also various slogans such as “everything is bigger…” and “don’t mess with Texas” have become memes. Finally, the Texas state capitol and the San Jacinto Monument were deliberately built to be slightly taller than the US Capitol and the Washington Monument respectively.
You are an absolute gem, reminiscent of OG TH-cam independent creators. No fake AI narration, no super professional equipment or editing, but plenty of charm and character, and meticulously researched and extremely informative to boot. It’s so refreshing! Never change 🥺
This video is so incredibly comprehensive! It’s a proud day to be a Florida man. Being culturally Minorcan The Smyrna Colony getting a shout out was so incredible and the various divides in ecology, history, and demographics were done so much justice!
I'm not from Florida myself and yet I have such a guilty pleasure and interest in the state. This video taught me more about Florida than I ever would have found by searching the internet, and it's all thanks to Carter for making it possible!
Two US explained videos within the span of barely a month? We are truly blessed today! Oh Florida, there's nothing else like you. Love it or hate it, Florida is uniquely American and there's nowhere else like it
I found Ocala Florida to be much different than the coastal towns. Its much more country and spread out, vast old growth oak woodlands. Mixed with palmettos and pine trees. The amount of forests and trees was one of the biggest surprises. Its just an incredible nature and wildlife sanctuary. I could go on and on about Florida.
I justr wanted you to know that I think your work is very valuable and you make my life better. I hope you have a fantastic year. Greetings from germany.
These were already fantastic in the early videos but you’ve really turned this series into something so special. Thank you for putting so much into this and letting us enjoy it for free!!
This channel is a late night Wikipedia readers dream. I love getting the wave top details first so I can dive deeper into topics that interest me. This channel somehow encapsulates that feeling perfectly and strikes a great balance of information. Thank you!
Nice work Carter! I'm a lifelong Floridan, and have found this video to be pretty comprehensive so far. I started watching and got to the point where you highlighted Tallahassee as the state capital and a part of the panhandle. Just to add, while Tallahassee is largely considered a part of the panhandle, it is more specifically a part of the Big Bend region of Florida, and is the principal city of the Big Bend. Also, from the observatory of the top floor of the Capital Building, on a clear day you can see as far as the Gulf of Mexico. Just wanted add those tidbits. Keep up the good work, and I look forward catching the rest of the video!
This has gradually become one of my favorite channels on this platform. To watch it grow and evolve has been awesome to see. Congrats on another amazing video!
You hit it out of the park again, Carter! I've been to Florida many times, but I always learn something new when watching this series. I can't wait for the next episode, good old Texas 🙂🙌👏
Florida's history, from start to the present, is unusually interesting if you just scratch the surface. There's 500 years worth of "huh, you don't see that every day."
Been waiting for this installment! I just got back from Florida, i travelled all over the state checking out the entire thing! Its absolutely incredible! In the winter at least. Im back up in Buffalo at the moment..
YAY!!!!!!! I have been waiting SO long for this episode of The US Explained and it's finally here! Cannot wait to watch it! Kudos to you, Carter, for your time and dedication to this series. Ever since Delaware it has been a fantastic journey through America and a deep dive into what makes each state, territory and district truly unique. Thank you, Carter, for your commitment to the US Explained and I can't wait to see how the rest of the series unfolds!
Great video. One omission was the military presence in Florida. Florida is home to several military commands: CENTCOM, SOCOM, and SOUTHCOM. A few major bases are Elgin AFB, MacDill, Tyndall AFB, Mayport, NAS Jacksonville, and so on. There are about 66,000 active duty personnel, and there is a major civilian defense contracting workforce in central Florida.
I searched your channel for this video during my road trip moving down to this state, June 2023. Now it’s finally here and I’m a permanent resident. Thank you!!
*jumps up and down because my state is the longest video in the series so far* I am very happy about this video and everything is perfectly described! Well done!
Excellent, although the 'stand-ups' where you appear could use some technical improvement - too dark and or poor audio. Orlando gets a very healthy number of international visitors - approximately 6M per year, mostly from UK, Canada, and Brazil
Good point about international visitors. I would think both Orlando and Miami would be in the Top 5 in America in terms of int'l tourists but would need to double check. Florida is very much an international state.
You timed this well, doing Michigan in the fall, and Florida and Texas in the winter so that you could save the rest of the upper Midwest for the spring
nice to put a face to the voice. Wouldn't have thought you looked so young. (compliment) shows you do alot of research to put out these videos. Much appreciated. little tip. Re position your mike when you put yourself into the video, big difference in volume between when you speak and when u r narrating. I appreciate you and all the effort !
For Texas you’ve gotta mention The Davis Mts, the Balcones canyonlands, the palo Duro canyon system and the Llano Estacado. All important historical and ecological areas of the state that are both beautiful and underlooked, for both good and Ill because of private landownership.
I love your content and the presentation of it typically… gentle critique: you’ve got to figure out your audio since you shifted your approach to using your own video/footage/recording. It sounds awful and is hard to hear you! Otherwise, you’re lovely and keep up the great work! Looking forward to the Alaska video… you’ve got a ways to go!
Hi Carter, could u add sm closed captioning on the parts of this video where ur speaking on sight? You’re difficult to hear/understand in those portions. Thnx
Ah yes. I currently live in Florida just outside of Jacksonville. My area have a good mix of colonial ties and modern day southern traits with a Florida spin.
My parents are from Florida but moved to Texas before I was born because the homes were cheaper and “less crowded” , now that I’m an adult I’ve wound up moving back to Florida because the homes are cheaper and it’s less crowded lol
I wish you be more descriptive about the climate instead of just simply using the description for a very broad climate regions. The Humid Subtropical climate in Florida is completely different from the same climate type found in NYC. It’s even different from the Rest of the South.

Can you turn on subtitles please
i am a texan and im excited to learn abt it from you lmao im afraid i cant add anything you dont know😭😭
WHEN. WISCONSIN.
Cool. Can't wait to see Missouri, and Kansas when you do them. Sounds like a longer version of World According to Briggs.

Nonsense. Much of Ocala is paved urban sprawl now. Old Florida is swiftly dying at the hands of land developers.
Ocala is said to be Florida's Kentucky .
Babe wake up, new The US explained just dropped.
New state DLC
carter is now canonically florida man
Im really enjoying this series so far. It gets better as more details and extra parts are incorporated into each new episode. Keep it up brother!
I justr wanted you to know that I think your work is very valuable and you make my life better. I hope you have a fantastic year. Greetings from germany.
Thank you so much!!
This is incredible man. Kudos for all the hard work and passion, it really shows. I’m enjoying this series.

a FANTASTIC video. Well-researched, rounded, and edited great. Awesome job, keep it up. From Jacksonville
I think the way you produce and put together these videos is fantastic. You're extremely talented at it!
I’ve been waiting for this video for so long! And it’s a great video! Thanks for showing some great love for Florida.
3:39 DJI has dropped some really nice mics that are super portable
Please continue your content, I appreciate this much detail in my deep archives
18:32 I stand corrected I need to stfu 😂
Florida's history, from start to the present, is unusually interesting if you just scratch the surface. There's 500 years worth of "huh, you don't see that every day."
32:39 It's good to see you got the authentic Orlando experience which would not be complete without getting a thunderstorm or three

Born and raised in Sumter and have always lived in Citrus. The growth is crazy. I can remember when many many highways were dirt roads
I searched your channel for this video during my road trip moving down to this state, June 2023. Now it’s finally here and I’m a permanent resident. Thank you!!
I love that the nighttime filmed narration sections have the vibe of a witness protection interview
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
omg so happy you made it to tampa!!!! ybor is so full of history hope you had a chance to see!
Thanks for covering my state of Florida
Keep pushing through the series! Love it!
I'm so elated to have 2 new videos uploaded recently. Thank you for doing these! I can't wait for more
*jumps up and down because my state is the longest video in the series so far*
I am very happy about this video and everything is perfectly described! Well done!
absolutely brilliant expose, best l've seen. outstanding work, awesomely well done 👏👍🎉
An hour and forty minutes on my home state and a place that is lost to development I can't wait
Excellent, although the 'stand-ups' where you appear could use some technical improvement - too dark and or poor audio. Orlando gets a very healthy number of international visitors - approximately 6M per year, mostly from UK, Canada, and Brazil
Wass not expecting Brazill..

Keep up the good work love your videos so excited to see you start getting some really traction you deserve it!! :)
this made me homesick as hell. Flawdaaaaaaaaaaa. great vid
That’s so fast dude! Can’t wait for my state. (Minnesota)
Wait after California...
Incredible video! Great job, bud! You have an incredible talent!
You timed this well, doing Michigan in the fall, and Florida and Texas in the winter so that you could save the rest of the upper Midwest for the spring
Congrats on Florida! Can't wait for this. Glad to see the frequency pick up again. Michigan was great.
Very comprehensive and informative. One minor puzzling omission is information about the major metropolitan city of Fort Lauderdale.
Thank you for this amazing video on my home state ❤️

Great job you old videos were great but I really like the indepth history
fantastic channel and episode
Great video. Maybe in future videos you can tweak the volume in your on-site clips. Some of them were hard to hear.
I've been to the beaches of Naples, Fl
I watched the sunset from the pier there back in 2016
It's absolutely beautiful there in Naples.
@joebobmarley2854 yep, it's a nice lil secret because everyone always chooses Miami
For Texas you’ve gotta mention The Davis Mts, the Balcones canyonlands, the palo Duro canyon system and the Llano Estacado. All important historical and ecological areas of the state that are both beautiful and underlooked, for both good and Ill because of private landownership.
You need a better microphone to use with your camera.
THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO
Very Interesting Indeed!! A Great job!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Those undeveloped lots in Port Charlotte, near the Peace River, were flooded by hurricane Charley. Good thing no one built there.
besides stupid sunseeker …
wish it wasn’t there
the last two were much worse for flooding compared to charley, that one sucked out the peace river
You forgot to mention the Jacksonville had a snow storm on Christmas day in 1989.
Wonderful video!
Great job. Do you have anyone who could help with audio and video issues with your stand ups?
I love your content and the presentation of it typically… gentle critique: you’ve got to figure out your audio since you shifted your approach to using your own video/footage/recording. Not enough time spent on Tampa Bay. 2nd largest metro and it only got a couple minutes.
Awesome. I learned a lot
Thank You 🫶🏼from Charlotte Harbor
Carter! When are you heading to Utah? I have several tips for you to visit on your visit to my new home state!

Jacksonville is 2024 is closer to around 1.7 million and the city population is now larger than Austin, Texas city population
This is the state I was waiting on.
Hilarious how many of the videos from the Sunshine State feature rain. :)
Elevation key related to your talking point at 6:44 is incomprehensible.
My parents are from Florida but moved to Texas before I was born because the homes were cheaper and “less crowded” , now that I’m an adult I’ve wound up moving back to Florida because the homes are cheaper and it’s less crowded lol
Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is the 4th largest Metropolitan area. 8 million > 6 million
Southern Spain, where most of the Spanish settlers came from is across from North Carolina, not the northeast.
great video!
I ❤ Florida.
Great video.
