  • Episode 5 of the Calico Mountain Expansion how-to series is all about building Calico Mountain itself out of extruded polystyrene foam (EPF). I give step-by-step descriptions of my process for roughing in scenery with this lightweight material, and even adding some carved rock detail. Don't forget to subscribe and hit that notification bell so you don't miss a single episode.
    Thanks for tuning in, amigos!

    LOVE IT!!!! I grew up near Knott's in La Palma. My folks would take us to Knott's often as it had no admission. I would ride the Calico as many times as they'd allow(still have a bunch of tickets) and wander Ghost Town. I became such a fan of the Calico I tried to build one in our back yard. Red wagon was the train and tarps became the mountain. I can not wait to see the next step. Thanks!

    Dave, your scenery work never ceases to amaze me! It's got the same feel to it that Carsland at California adventure does, where it's so massive yet intricate that it just pulls you fight into the scene. Great job!!

    Hey, have you seen the TH-cam channel Magictecture? They're building a big thunder style backyard roller coaster - I pointed them to your channel for some inspiration!

    Love to see a shot of the end with the tracks passing over each other. Will that area be visible or hidden?

    • @ThunderMesaStudio

      Yes! That will be visible in the underground mine scene.

    Mr. Thunder……… question-- I have never used the hot wire to shape styro,just a knife and rasp.
    Do you think it’s worth buying one ???

    • @ThunderMesaStudio
      @ThunderMesaStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is definitely worth buying one. A knife and rasp will work for some things, but they are very messy. And just "Dave" is fine. Mr. Thunder is my father.

    Is this ever inspiring. Where’s my styro !
