Don’t call petrol ⛽️ gas in Sri Lanka. Petrol is petrol. Gas is gas. It’s confusing for the locals when you refer to petrol as gas. After the very first confusion with the lady in the shop I thought you learned your lesson but clearly not because you kept on asking people for gas and they’d naturally send you to places where people sell gas cylinders for cooking etc.
Hey Ken , you were making a mistake, majority of people in sri lanka dont call gas stations as gas stations, they are either petrol sheds or petrol stations, keep that in mind when you are travelling, because for sri lankans gas stations are usually L P Gas stations used for buying cooking gas
@@deepseawarriorsteam5935 It’s stupid of Ken to keep calling petrol ⛽️ gas in Sri Lanka or Thailand when he clearly knows that’s the wrong term but he still calls petrol gas. Something wrong with his 🧠
In srilanka, we dont use the word Gas(Gasoline) . word "gas" is for cooking Gas. we use Petrol. that lady thought you need some gas for cooking i think! interesting and funny the at same time! :D
Hi Ken just wanted to say I think you are one of the kindest and most respectful vloggers I have seen. Thanks for showing us beautiful Sri Lanka. Peace & Love
Hi, love your videos. Take care of yourself and continue exploring. Anyway after seeing this video just wanted to write few things. 1. In Sri Lanka it's Petrol or Diesel. Not Gas. When you say gas it refers to LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) which is sold in cylinders mostly for domestic kitchens for cooking purpose. We should know local acronyms and synonyms. If you keep on asking for gas, 'you will keep on getting lost in every part of Sri Lanka. 2. Petrol stations have a standard structure. I am sure it's recognizable even from a distance. Next time don't go searching for gas stations on the backyard of a random grocery shop. Most likely you will get only the rest rooms there. I am sure that lady might have referred to rest room, not gas station. 3. English is not the native language here. We should not take it for granted that they speak few words means they understand you fully. It's always in our hand to keep the communication simple and clear. Fewer words, slow pace, some sign language and probably few words in local language. Having the mentality of "If there is miscommunication, the fault is mine, not theirs" will help a lot. 4. I believe Google map is pretty much functioning and will definitely show you the Petrol Stations. For that matter any common service like saloon, studio etc. It's not that rural to not to have maps updated. I believe even street views are available. Since you engage with people a lot (which is fantastic) occasionally there is a chance you will bump in to 'not quite a good person'. So first checking the Google map is advisable and then cross check with people. Just my thought. You are doing a great thing for the local tourism. Just wanted you to be more informative to not fall in to trouble.
Try to search a Petrol Station by typing “Fuel Station” on google maps. I would like to suggest some areas you must visit in Kandy area. “Nelligala, Ambuluwawa, Temple of Tooth Relic, Kadugannawa Railway museum and Kadugannawa Rock tunnel, Kandy view point, University of Peradeniya and Peradeniya Flower garden. Mostly, March and April will be flower season. So, You must visit University of Peradeniya in Flower season. If you are looking places in Nuwaraeliya, I would suggest you to visit Haggala Flower garden, Gregory Lake park and boat tour, Ambewela Highland Milk Factory and Horton Plains Natural Park.
Dear Ken.... What your doing as a tourist is commendable. You are promoting most of the attractions around this country. Sadly even the government of Sri Lanka fails to guide tourists like you free travellers. Thanks for the promotions you pick on in educating tourists as well as locals. I'm positive that most locals have not seen these beautiful destinations. Its really educating and giving first hand information. Its a good lesson for our government if they wish to learn from your example. I agree we are far behind in sharing our information on destinations, which really can help tourist and not let them rely only on Google. Think of it. We are far behind other tourist attracting countries. Like to see improvements is this industry needs to improve to earn more foreign exchange which the country badly is looking for. Good Luck to yoy Mr. Ken!!
Ella is really beautiful. There's a Little Adam's Peak and Ella Rock. Both of them is really beautiful. My Sri Lanka travel video: Episode 1 th-cam.com/video/7YBxcX50HaA/w-d-xo.html
Oh gosh, quite a difficult side mission ...to find a petrol station !!! 😧😀 Glad that you found it at last and we get to enjoy the beautiful scenery and landscapes along the way. Wow, oh wow, the view at Little Adam Peak is super magnificent. It reminds me of "Pu Chi Fa" of Thailand. Great job, Ken and thanks a bunch for the effort to hike up and show us this breathtaking mountains.
Ken asked for gas... in sri lanka gas refers to LP gas for cooking. Where are fuel for vehicles is either petrol or diesel which is available at a petrol shed
In Sri Lanka normally we do not call it 'gas station '. I think that is the reason. If you ask for ' petrol ' you'll find directions easy. Hope it'll be usefull for rest of your journey. Good luck 💪.
Gas station would be confusing. That term is not used. People may have thought you were looking for gas cylinders. I think the lady at the first shop may have had cooking gas cylinders for sale. Petrol station is the correct term for LK.
Hey ken, an important thing is to remember that in most of rural areas of Sri Lanka lacking gas stations but they sell 1l or 750ml petrol bottles at small shops. Don't waste time by searching gas stations. you can find those in small typical shops !
Hiya Ken, Congratulations. 80K. Well deserved. Always lovely content. Your videos are always uplifting and make me smile. Thank you. Have a great week.
You should call it petrol. If you ask for gas they might not understand.cows are allowed to roam and will know where they want to go! It really is stunningly beautiful! And you have a lovely day for it. You should try visiting Horton Plains.
In Sri Lanka what people call gas is liquid petroleum gas which is used on cooking stoves. If you want fuel for your vehicle you ask for a "petrol shed". hope this helps
Super good and friendly person you are 👍 helping those who are trying to make a living, even make you better while promoting this breath taking tours/View. I'm not sure if you have gone to world's end or riverston all those places are highly rated and I'm sure you won't regret a minute of your time out there, nevertheless whereever you go pls have your tank full. You are a good man. And your channel is awesome. Some retail outlets in Sri Lanka have petrol for sale. They buy petrol at petrol stations and sell it at their shops.
So in Sri Lanka we refer to fuel as fuel, petrol or diesel. Gas is what we use for the cooking stoves which is why some people may have directed you in different directions.
When you were in Haputale town i thought the guy accompanied with you would direct you to visit the Adhisham bungalow near by. Its a beautiful scottish type country house built by a British planter during their forceful occupation in this island in the 19th century. The scenary from here is heavenly. Also you should have visited the Liptons seat in Haputale where many foreigners visit and the biggest tea factory in sri lanka , the Dambetanna tea factory on your way to Liptons seat or on your return journey back to Haputale town. The factory is open for visitors and they show you the tea manufacturing process here. The scenary from this resting point "Liptons seat " is worth watching. The scooty is good for this trip.
The view at the Adam peak is spectacular. When you rent a motorbike, the first thing you should check the meter. Not sure about the normal practice in Sri Lanka, but in Malaysia when you rent a car or a motorbike, the fuel tank most probably has just sufficient petrol to reach the nearest petrol station.
I love your vlogs! You are so kind and I love how open you are to the world and the people around you 😄 Glad you are enjoying Sri Lanka! Ciao from Italy
Go visit Riverston if you have time. That is the most beautiful place I have been to in Sri Lanka, and I have been to Ella as among others. But nothing beats that place. Mini World's end is located in Riverston as well that's a place you should visit. Small hike, but breathtaking view.

Gas station in India or Srilanka means fuel stations with CNG refilling pumps. Just ask for Petrol Pump to avoid going around in circles.
