Explains why there was so much hype for it. I didn't know ANYTHING about Fallout 3. I just knew, apparently, it was a big deal? Didn't play it until after I had played Fallout 4. I think the crazy thing about seeing the trailer at the time was that the game seemed much more insane. Like, it was supposed to be cinematic. I think that's all the Fallout Bethesda and even Obsidian Fallout games are missing. They just throw you into these scenarios, which makes sense, and it's unique, but imagine if we got cutscenes for the more scripted sequences? Imagine if they looked as good as the Fallout 3 promotion trailer? Anyways...it's weird how I remember a game being so hype, despite knowing nothing about it for about 6 years. At the time, Oblivion got a lot of attention too. Never bought it. To this day, I haven't played Oblivion.

You enter the mall, its empty, you found some food and water and decide to rest for a bit, you walked 33 km today, searching for a spot to sit down you find the old audio room of the mall, you enter and see a record on pause, you press the play button and the old audio sistem starts once again, the music is calm and chilling, your feets stomp a bit, feeling the need to dance, for a second you imagine a large dancing room, people moving to the music, you feel warm, your feet move in a clumsy way, you start to dance, for a while you feel, happy. The music stops, the song ended, your feet stop, the warm feeling floats for a while in the end, you wish to someone to be here to dance with you, but you are alone, you are always alone, in the ghost of a burning world.
This is nostalgically terrifying, I remember playing fallout 3 when I was like 13 or 14 and this was my favorite song to listen in the radio and hearing it in such a unnerving and frightening environment is nuts
I remember buying a copy of new vegas from a game store in a mall that no longer exists it feels like it was just yesterday when i bought it but that was nearly 2 decades ago (it was demolished and turned into a apartment complex)
this actually made me cry quite a lot. my wife took her own life 2 years ago and she had been the love of my life since we were just kids growing up together. she always had a deep love for these oldies and so do i. this edit really describes how the emptiness feels without her.

I imagine a mutuated combination of all 4 of the ink spots crawling closer, and the music sounding like its getting closer and closer, and at the end it comes up behind you and bites your legs off. as you lie on the ground bleeding with blurry vision, watching this monster slowly trudge back into the shadows leaving a trail of blood until your vision finally fades to black, and you die there.

You can't help but feel uneasy about noises you think you hear coming from the darkened areas--sounds almost like shuffling feet and guttural sounds like someone clearing their throat. The shuffling becomes more pronounced, you hurry and gather what you can carry and head back for the entrance, but to your horror you see the group of feral ghouls following you are closing in...
This reminds me of when I would go out urban exploring while listening to old 50s era music and pretend I was scavenging for loot like I was in fallout. And killing the occasional ghoul or rad roach, which really meant breaking things with a stick or piece of iron rebarb I found. Good times

Small thumps of soft sounds from your slow footsteps, travels smoothly through the musky cold air. The mute, silent halls of this dying building, suffocating the discreet place with intense bitter and painfull silence. As lonely as this bright yet pale ambience of the rotten decaying mall has to offer, the drenched yet blooming plants has colored the vast, scary halls with a sad brown, the broken and tattered rooms of abandoned intertainment left unchecked, its surprisingly, a calm environment, completely isolated from sentient breathing beings, trapped within the brain dead echoes of this endless territory, nothing to run away from, nothing to worry about, Giving you a final piece of calmness after the deadly encounters you have experienced in the other levels.and in this unknown domain,inprisoned and trapped, you can finally close ur eyes and bask in the mute, dusty halls. It looks like a new friend is approaching you!
I actually visited a mall with a similar vibe once. Johnstown, Pennsylvania was a bustling steel city until the 70s when the plants were closed and the town's economy plummeted. Ever since, the town has really been struggling. I grew up in Johnstown, but I never really had an appreciation for how devastated the economy was until we went shopping for winter coats in the mall a year ago. One of the large sections (the ones that were supposed to be department stores) was entirely shut off. The store itself went out of business, the smaller vendor areas around that store were empty, and the lights were off. Half of the Johnstown Galleria is a bustling, prosperous American mall. The other half is dark, quiet, empty, and echoes with the music coming from other parts of the mall.
POV : You're walking at exactly 12:09 pm alone in the middle of no where. You look up to see an abandoned mall. Your curious mind takes you over to where you're standing right in front of the doors to the old run-down mall. You're insides try to talk you out of going inside, but the creepy feel takes over and lets you slip through the broken doors. You check your clock and it still said 12:09 pm. Shrugging it off, you look around seeing vines and plants over growing everywhere, glass shattered, and parts of the roof fallen down on the ground. A few "minutes" later, 1900 music plays in the background. Your spine cripples up as the music gets louder but more fade. Voices are heard like the mall was never run-down. You brave up and continue deeper into the mall. At this point, you're calming down. Until, you walk into a room full of buckets of blood, bodies of children being hung, and knives in adults throats. Screams of these "innocent" beings surrounded the room. You run out breathing heavily like you just saw a bear. Finally, after losing yourself, you go to lift your heads so you could wipe your tears to see. Blood?! Blood dripped from you're hands. You stop to look up, a black figure stood in front of you. You bust out in tears and fall to the ground as your scared to death. The figure stood there, instead of taking his axe and stabbing you, he bends down and hugs you. You didn't expect, a murderer, a monster, to hug you? You hug him back, calming down.. Only to see your body being rapidly stabbed by the figure. It has been years since the war began and the last thing you saw before retreating into the depths of the local bunker was soldiers of Arstotzka fight to defend evacuation trucks as helicopters shot rockets down, blowing most trucks to pieces. They said it was safe to exit the shelters. Arstotzka did something to push the enemy forces away. You walk into a Mall to see if you can gather clues on what happened. A song plays in the distance. A radio left on for the entire war. The mall is left in ruins and most of the outside too. You don't know what happened for Arstotzka to remain standing. But based on the damage and the endless streets full of Skeltons, you don't want to find out.

I did something similar like this for my final film project in high school. I broke into an abandoned mall, took some videos of me walking around the abandoned mall and edited this song over it.

POV: it’s 1943 and your a soldier going through a city. You find an abandoned mall, and check it. Maybe you’ll find some enemy soldiers or citizens. You hear this play, firm the upper floor. You walk up, cautiously. You turn a corner and find shell-shocked people, hiding in a cluster for warmth. Next to them, a radio plays. You look into their wide eyes. They don’t say anything. Neither do you.
This song sounding on the background while I was walking through the wastes in FO4, nothing alive to be seen just the ruins, me and dogmeat scavenging for ammo and caps.
Just imagine in the fallout universe, being in a crowded mall, and one second to the next, it’s empty, hollow and falling apart. You can’t make sense of what’s happened and can still hear the music echoing through the uncannily empty halls. You spend all your time looking for other people or else an exit. Can only imagine that’s what the residual spirits of all those caught in the nuclear fallout ended up feeling.

I kinda thought of a story idea while listening (idk if it’s good but I thought I might as well) You walk around the collapsed city aimlessly, stepping around and over the rubble of the destroyed buildings. You come up to a not completely demolished building, seeming as though it was once a mall. Finding a hole through the side of the building you slowly and cautiously entering, walking through the rubble and destruction, an eerie song echoed in the once shiny and clean place. The song was calming as you gaze upon the ruins, something silhouetting against the debris. A figure, a human figure. Now there was nothing left for you to lose, you stepped slowly towards the figure as they did the same. Meeting in the middle you stood with the one you thought you’d never see again, assumed dead. To stunned to do anything you stood there gazing at them. “May I have this dance?” They said with a hand extended, unable to speak you nodded and placed your hand in theirs. They pulled you to them, and started to step forwards and backwards, you following their movements by doing the opposite. They go forwards, you go backwards. They go backwards you go forwards. The occasional twirl between you two, then they pull you in even closer, hugging you to their body, as you rest your head on them they do the same. Then the dancing just became a slowly swaying hug. Humming lightly to the tune, you felt at that moment, nothing else seemed to matter as the surroundings blurred into nothing.

As lonely as this bright yet pale ambience of the rotten decaying mall has to offer, the drenched yet blooming plants has colored the vast, scary halls with a sad brown, the broken and tattered rooms of abandoned intertainment left unchecked, its surprisingly, a calm environment, completely isolated from sentient breathing beings, trapped within the brain dead echoes of this endless territory, nothing to run away from, nothing to worry about,
Giving you a final piece of calmness after the deadly encounters you have experienced in the other levels.and in this unknown domain,inprisoned and trapped, you can finally close ur eyes and bask in the mute, dusty halls.

I actually visited a mall with a similar vibe once. Johnstown, Pennsylvania was a bustling steel city until the 70s when the plants were closed and the town's economy plummeted. Ever since, the town has really been struggling. I grew up in Johnstown, but I never really had an appreciation for how devastated the economy was until we went shopping for winter coats in the mall a year ago. One of the large sections (the ones that were supposed to be department stores) was entirely shut off. The store itself went out of business, the smaller vendor areas around that store were empty, and the lights were off. Half of the Johnstown Galleria is a bustling, prosperous American mall. The other half is dark, quiet, empty, and echoes with the music coming from other parts of the mall.
Sounds like the mall represents johnstown. It’s still there, alive, but half it’s emptiness shows.

When a building has lost its soul and become a corpse
POV : You're walking at exactly 12:09 pm alone in the middle of no where. You look up to see an abandoned mall. Your curious mind takes you over to where you're standing right in front of the doors to the old run-down mall. You're insides try to talk you out of going inside, but the creepy feel takes over and lets you slip through the broken doors. You check your clock and it still said 12:09 pm. Shrugging it off, you look around seeing vines and plants over growing everywhere, glass shattered, and parts of the roof fallen down on the ground. A few "minutes" later, 1900 music plays in the background. Your spine cripples up as the music gets louder but more fade. Voices are heard like the mall was never run-down. You brave up and continue deeper into the mall. At this point, you're calming down. Until, you walk into a room full of buckets of blood, bodies of children being hung, and knives in adults throats. Screams of these "innocent" beings surrounded the room. You run out breathing heavily like you just saw a bear. Finally, after losing yourself, you go to lift your heads so you could wipe your tears to see. Blood?! Blood dripped from you're hands. You stop to look up, a black figure stood in front of you. You bust out in tears and fall to the ground as your scared to death. The figure stood there, instead of taking his axe and stabbing you, he bends down and hugs you. You didn't expect, a murderer, a monster, to hug you? You hug him back, calming down.. Only to see your body being rapidly stabbed by the figure.

You gather your items as you shuffle out your bunker. It has been years since the war began and the last thing you saw before retreating into the depths of the local bunker was soldiers of Arstotzka fight to defend evacuation trucks as helicopters shot rockets down, blowing most trucks to pieces. They said it was safe to exit the shelters. Arstotzka did something to push the enemy forces away. You walk into a Mall to see if you can gather clues on what happened. A song plays in the distance. A radio left on for the entire war. The mall is left in ruins and most of the outside too. You don't know what happened for Arstotzka to remain standing. But based on the damage and the endless streets full of Skeltons, you don't want to find out.

You walk up, cautiously. You turn a corner and find shell-shocked people, hiding in a cluster for warmth. Next to them, a radio plays. You look into their wide eyes. They don’t say anything. Neither do you.

Just imagine in the fallout universe, being in a crowded mall, and one second to the next, it’s empty, hollow and falling apart. You can’t make sense of what’s happened and can still hear the music echoing through the uncannily empty halls. You spend all your time looking for other people or else an exit. Can only imagine that’s what the residual spirits of all those caught in the nuclear fallout ended up feeling.

I kinda thought of a story idea while listening (idk if it’s good but I thought I might as well)
You walk around the collapsed city aimlessly, stepping around and over the rubble of the destroyed buildings. You come up to a not completely demolished building, seeming as though it was once a mall. Finding a hole through the side of the building you slowly and cautiously entering, walking through the rubble and destruction, an eerie song echoed in the once shiny and clean place. The song was calming as you gaze upon the ruins, something silhouetting against the debris. A figure, a human figure. Now there was nothing left for you to lose, you stepped slowly towards the figure as they did the same. Meeting in the middle you stood with the one you thought you’d never see again, assumed dead. To stunned to do anything you stood there gazing at them. “May I have this dance?” They said with a hand extended, unable to speak you nodded and placed your hand in theirs. They pulled you to them, and started to step forwards and backwards, you following their movements by doing the opposite. They go forwards, you go backwards. They go backwards you go forwards. The occasional twirl between you two, then they pull you in even closer, hugging you to their body, as you rest your head on them they do the same. Then the dancing just became a slowly swaying hug. Humming lightly to the tune, you felt at that moment, nothing else seemed to matter as the surroundings blurred into nothing.
