I have garlic planted in my kids old turtle sandbox. Also going to plant strawberries in my kiddie pool this year. I grew potatoes last year in the huge colored round totes we used to use for toy boxes.
I’ve used a curved shower door and a straight shower door to build two cold frames. The curved door is ideal as the allotment is close to the sea and its aerodynamic shape is ideal for deflecting high winds which we get quite frequently (+50 mph)
Fun video. Far more enjoyable to upcycle and make use of something that would otherwise be landfill, than to buy something. Some great ideas - like the old furniture opened up and used for apple storage.
Excellent info on using pallets for projects. I took old landscape timbers and cut them into 3" slices & used them for pathways & under the lawn swing. I also stop at the local granite store & get free broken pieces to use for projects. Thx for a few inspirations in your video.
I bought 50’ of snow fencing and cut it horizontally in half to have 100’ of short garden fencing. I painted it a lovely color and had an attractive garden area for cheap.

some cool stuff there, pallet ideas are great esp the planter , im doing a pond on allotment using old recycle bins and using our willow shelter as a cold frame using old bricks and poly cover
Great video, especially the pallet and the paving ideas. And yes, a video on green roofs please! I used a second hand colander as a hanging basket this year, with a small fuchsia and lobelia. Looked terrific!

I see pallets for free all over my city. Often times they are free, if there is no sign, just go ask. If they don't give them away, maybe they know some companies who will. The hunt is fun!
Ask around. You shouldn't have to buy them. Where I live businesses lean them up against telephone poles, free for the taking. Too big for my trunk; I've measured...lol. Need to make friends with a couple of truck owners....haha.
@Miscellaneous Various they pull up seedlings. This year they pulled up (and left to die) 24 pumpkin seedlings at the 6 leaf stage (so not tiny). So I had NO cold weather fodder crop for my housecows. They do it any year i dont cover the emerging seedlings with wire cages but this year they waited til the cages were taken off established seedlings. Are you an urban dweller?

We haven't done a video on green roofs (yet!). They are fantastic though - great for wildlife and they give a lovely natural look. We recommend a sedum green roof for ease of maintenance and year-round good looks. Sedum mats or carpets can be readily bought online - and there is a lot of guidance out there about setting up and looking after a green roof. Sorry we can't be of more specific help - but have a root around as there's so much information available. You have a very exciting project to look forward to!
Hi, I have a question it's my first time growing fennel from seed and I think they are leggy, how can I be sure? I don't know how the plant should look like!!!
The seedlings shouldn't be too leggy. They are naturally delicate, filigree seedlings though, so there is a chance you could be interpreting their natural look as leggy. Have a search for 'fennel seedlings' on Google/Bing and click the 'images' option to look up a gallery of what they should look like. The seedlings will need good light to grow well and not be leggy.

Love your channel but this video was much too fast & rushed, it was hard to see what you were talking about because you bounced around too quickly. Spend a little more time explaining & showing pictures instead of rapid succession;

Old carpeting is great for keeping weeds down in paths or to create new gardens.
I turned my old barbecue into a vegtrug great for herbs and saved me loads of money on buying one.

Beautifully English. Hanging CDs has no deterrent effect on parrot species or Australian magpies, and water containers on the garden attract snakes 😁

If I did the tiny ponds, I would worry that they would become breeding pools for mosquitoes.
Yolanda look up bt. It's a natural bacteria that interferes with mosquito larva becoming adults.
You could also try mosquito fish, which are voracious predators of mosquito larvae.
