Love that you’re posting these types of videos. It’s hard to know what is the normal behavior of your hair vs. hair damage. Thank you for helping to educate the community.
“Woman of a certain age.” You are such a gentleman! This was a very helpful video! I think it’s beneficial to have a stylist experienced in natural hair asses my hair from time to time because I can’t do that for myself, so I go to a stylist for trims (which I can’t do for myself either). Sadly my trusted stylist is no longer doing hair so I’m on the hunt for a new stylist. I will be grilling some stylists during consultations. Pray for me! Could you do a video on what you should expect during a consultation and what kinds of questions to ask a potential stylist? P.S. that rod set is beautiful!
This is interesting because as much as we hear how much different people love blunt ends they can still house a lot of damage when done with no purpose. I would cut when needed or depending on how easily it was to detangle when my hair was loose. At one point I though I was doing something wrong because I didn't trim as often as I would see some youtubers trim. This video makes sense. No point of unnecessary cutting.
"Cut with purpose". I love that. People be doing stuff just to do it or they do things more often than they should because they heard that they "have" to.
My hair is very prone to damage due to lifestyle ( swim a lot) and medical( psychotropic) and genetic factors (thalassemia carrier). So I keep to a trim schedule to keep on top of the damage because as soon as my ends get bad my hair starts to tangle badly. I trust my stylist to cut off enough. I know it keeps my hair short but it also keeps it healthy most of the time. I'm just happy to have most of my colour, nape, crown area and edges at 40 age as a black woman. My mother had no edges or nape at the same age back in 1990.
5:50 Isnt the aphogee 2min reconstructot technically a protein based deep conditioner though? I mean its fast acting but many deep conditioners these days, especially from high end brands only really need to be left in for like 5min.
Thank you. My ends are starting to look like hers after 3 months no trim but I don't see any splits on the shed hair or excessive tangles so I feel more comfortable now pushing my trim out. I will continue to take my time detangling and using strengthening products.
Thank you for this video. I’ve heard it’s good to cut them on a schedule purely for maintenance. So if you cut 1/4 inch every three months then you’ll only be cutting 1 inch for the year and can retain the most length instead of waiting for them to get bad first. How do you feel about that?
Again damage doesn't just occur at the very tips of your hair. What good is trimming a 4th of an inch and you have splits that are an inch and a half up? Like I said in the video, cutting needs to be done with purpose. You assess what the damage is, where it is, how it came to be, and go from there. You can routinely cut but only 1 of 2 things will happen: You will either just be cutting healthy hair for little to no reason at all, or you won't trim off all the damage and you will be left like Sherea's hair in the last watch party.

You did an amazing job 👏
Thank you so much for sharing. I am very much interested in this topic
As always!! 👌🏾👌🏾
insane bro, love it
Can you talk about relaxed hair as well?
There are plenty of stylists that focus on relaxed hair. I won't be addressing something that I'm not specialized and experienced in.
@@AfrikanHairGod but I like you 😂
@@Innerbeauty4U2 I appreciate that but I don't like relaxed hair lol
@@AfrikanHairGod 🥴 I tried it 😂

I love the curls and I genuinely appreciate you sharing how to look at the fabric of the hair with a critical eye. Thank you Narada!
