This was awesome. Thank you for posting. I've just started some ancestry research and have many connections to this area. I will be visiting in the future for sure. Thanks again.
Bish Vegas was once the best night out in the North East, lots of money being spent, still long way to go. Sadly so many shops boarded up like most towns. Retail parks destroy towns.
Sadly many towns aren't what they used to be. Retail parks, online shopping, and other factors make life so much harder for town centre retail businesses. It's still a good town and there was lots to see for a tourist like me and I look forward to coming back again one day.
@@kennylogon1 I've studied railways for over 60 years, more times than you've had hot dinners. Look at old maps you will see that the S & D terminated at a coal mine west of Bishop Auckland crossing the Gaunless next to West Auckland. You can also look up the Gaunless iron bridge on Google.

Thank you for this. I will have a further look next time I’m there. It’s a lovely town and great to see creativity and the arts captured for all to appreciate.
Why didn't you show the Deer House? It was just in front of you at one point. The Gaunless drove Ferren's Mill for over a 100yrs 500 yds upstream of where you where.
Ah, what a shame. I knew it was somewhere fairly nearby, but time ran out as I was on a fairly tight schedule. I will definitely come back again though, as it looked so nice there. Glad the Gaunless has more history to it as well. Time for a follow up video next year I think!

I usually just explore the town centres as there is more to share for others to see. I like to keep my videos positive and upbeat. I do hope that more spending comes the way of towns like Bishop Auckland as they really are nice places with some really friendly good people living there.
I guess many architectural changes over the years have appealed to some and not impressed others too. At least it is something that sparks conversation and brings interest to the lovely town of Bishop Auckland.
Bishop great place great people sadly let dowh by newgate st wants demolishing make it a park put a tram line take shoppers up to retail park i live in stanhope but shop in consett much brighter
Thank you for watching. A tramline would definitely be good. Retaining footfall in an area is important, so let's hope something like that happens. You're right though, great place and great people!

Thank you for watching. It's a beautiful area and I hope you get to visit for yourself.
Positive review and comments nice to see. I did enjoy this video.
Thank you. Bishop Auckland was a lovely place to visit. I hope to return again and to spend longer there.

It will become an amazing place given a little time and investment
There is so much that is good already and I hope, as you say, it continues to improve and get even better.
@richlordtravels I think it will, plus it's so close to some outstanding countryside
The useless river became world famous as George Stephenson designed an unusual bridge over it on the Stockton & Darlington Railway opened in 1825.
You're thinking of The River Skerne. The Gaunless goes no-where near Darlo.

There is a huge Stan mural just over the road from the four clocks and a whole lot of amazing street art

Thank you. Ah, that's interesting to hear. Thank you.
@@richlordtravels The reason I've posted my message several times is because my first 2 attempts vanished into the ether!?
Stan Laurel lived in Princes Street which is situated just behind his statue. You'll see a plaque above the door of the address he lived at.
Look at the rest of it mate it's run down and nothing like the tourist pert
