The characteristic of the cyberpunk city that started with "Blade Runner" is that everything is mixed and there is no sense of unity.
The city of "Blade Runner" is set in the Japanese district of Los Angeles, where the screen is full of Japanese and huge advertisements for Japanese pharmaceutical companies are projected on the walls of the buildings.
``Ghost in the Shell'' and ``Neuromancer'' are always set in eerily desolate cities in the East with intricate back alleys, and ``Ghost in the Shell'' is a work written by an Asian.
Asian cities are characterized by chaos, from Hong Kong's demolished Kowloon City to monster mansions to the bizarrely crowded back alleys of Tokyo's Shinjuku and Shibuya.
Asian cities are a mix of all kinds of technologies, consistent with the unmanageable chaos of societies where humans and cyborgs with varying degrees of body modification come and go.
I thought about this while watching this video.

So did we! Asian pop culture has had so much influence on the cyberpunk scene (and we love it!).... one theory is also that the Japanese economy was very strong in the 80s, and an asian takeover future seemed quite possible (still is!)

in the dystopia of the not so far future, punks dance to the beats of a bygone age. (this super reminds me of late 90s early 2000s electronic, which I love)
